  1. Congratulations! I was banded April 21, 2008. It has been an interesting experience. Has it been easy? Yes, sometimes and then other times, not so much. Keep in mind, that the band doesn't fail you. You fail the band. So if you are not losing weight like you should, then you need to see what you are doing wrong. The band is only a tool. I love my band. It keeps me from overeating. Good luck on your journey.

  2. I chose the band beacuse it has a lot less complications. I am 5'2 and started out at 318lbs I now weight 228. I have lost 90lbs and still losing. It is a slower process, but I know my insides are all in tact and that if there is a complication the band can be removed. I have 4 friends who have had the bypass and 3 of them have gained over half of their weight back. With the band after I lose all my weight and I start to gain. I can go back and get a fill. Do your homework about both surgeries. It is your body and your decision not the doctors. Good luck on your journey.

  3. You did excellent for you first month. But dont be discouraged with your first fill. You will fill restriction for just a few days to a week. But you will still be able to eat. Just remember to follow the program. Eat Proteins first, veggies next. Stay away from bread, rice, potatoes and Pasta and count the carbs. For best weight loss stay below 30 carbs a day. Veggies carbs dont count, but fruit carbs do. I am half way to my goal. I have had 3 fils and I now have restriction. The amount of restriction you have will depend on how much you doctor puts in your band. If you go off the program for a meal. Just get right back on, dont beat yourself up about it. We all stray off sometimes. The band won't fail you when you get restriction, but you can fail by eating the wrong things and gain weight. Good luck on your journey.

  4. My energy level has gone way up. I can at walk my husband now. Before I could barely walk the grocery store. Had lots of body pain, couldnt climb stairs, had headaches alot. Was depressed alot. Now I have so much energy it is unreal. And I go out to eat with friends. I just eat slowly and I order foods like braised ribs and eat what I want and take the rest home. They all know I have the band so no one makes comments on how much i eat. I have 2.5 pounds to go and I hit the half way mark. I wouldn't change anything for the world. Infact I am going to have a pin made up when I lose 100lbs to say..I've lost 100lbs ask me how. Well good luck.

  5. Hello I have had 3 fills so far. I have 7cc. I see my doctor every 4wks. Only once he didnt put any liquid in my band. I dont think you absorb any of the liquids unless there is a leak. I have a doctors apt friday so I will ask him about it. Cause now I am curious. You might be taking in to big of a bite then then chewing and swallowing. The smaller the bit the better and the slower you eat the better. Well good luck on your journey.

  6. Hello, I have had a 3rd fill also. I have found if you wait an hour after eating before drinking and you only sip liquids slowly you dont get hungry as fast and I eat about 1/2 cup to 3/4 cups of food, depending on what it is. I noticed if I eat salad I can eat more, but get hungry faster. If I eat chicken it stays with me longer. Also I have found If I find things to do that keep my mind off of food Im not so hungry. Cause sometimes I will think I am hungry when I am not, just because I am bored. Good luck on your journey

  7. Sorry to say you arent failing your band you are failing yourself. I know it isnt easy cause my husband eats all the junk food like your husband does. When he eats it I find things to do or I eat sugar free pudding or fudgesicles. Then there are times that I give in and have a scoop of ice cream. Then I get right back on the program. Then I give myself a pep talk and remind myself how much money have invested in this and how much weight I have lost and the only person that it is hurting is myself. My doc was honest from the first. Said it wouldnt be easy to lose the weight. He also said he was my gate keeper. He will control how much my stomach will hold until I lose my weight and can control it myself, but it was up to me to make the right choices.

  8. I use to get nausea and still do at times only when I am hungry and haven't eaten. I will get dizzy and light headed, but then the smell of food make it any better. It hightens the fact that I am hungry. If I eat it usually goes away after the food has passed from my pouch to my stomach. Good luck on your journey.

  9. Hello,

My insurance company required a 6mth diet as well. So my surgeon put me on the high Protein low carb diet. During the 6mth month I just visited his office, the nurtitionist, had the pshyc during that time. It went by really fast. But there was no guidelines except to be on a diet and show progress of some type. Good luck on your journey. I was banded April 21, 2008 and my scale this morning says I have now lost 87lbs.

  10. Hello,

Witht the first fill you wont feel much restriction. You usually dont feel alot until the 3rd or 4th fill depending on the size of your band. Most doctors will only do a fill ever 4-6 wks depending on the patient. I doubt if he will another fill since you just had one. My doctor sets up an appt with me for every 4 wks to weigh in and for fill if needed. good luck on your journey

  11. Hello,

Keep in mind when you eat, if you eat to much you are putting a lot of weight in your pouch and it will cause pain. You have to use Portion Control. dont eat until you are full. You should only being for about 10 to 15 min at a sitting only. And chew chew chew. then dont drink for 60 min after, then only sip the Water so you dont create like a backwash. By sipping it slowly moves the food through the band. But with the little amount that you have sounds as if you need the chew better and eat less. I just had my 3rd fill and have 7 cc. you should be eating only about 1/2 to 1 cup of food only. aslo if you eat to fast you dont give the food time to settle. if you are eating more and more food at each sitting, you probably need a fill. next visit to the doc ask him how much your portion size should be. Also, the more fills you have the more restriction, usually 3-5 fils will give you the most restriction. good luck

  12. Hello,

This best thing you can do is sip Water all day long if you can. I remember I could barely drink at first and had pain, dont gulp or take big mouthfuls of Water. The burping is the air you are taking in from drinking, eventually it will go away. I didnt think it would and about the gas pain was murder. Just walk alot and if needed take gas-x. But if you had a hernia the pain will last for a while. I only drank about 20 to 32 oz of water a day. and still only take in that amount. I wish you luck on your journey.

  13. I am sure of you ask the doctor....he will let you attend the support group. My doctor offers one..they are free of charge. I dont have a craving for fast food anymore. I did go to a couple after i was banded but there is nothing i can eat cause bread is off limits, so it is like bother. Besides I paid way to much money not stick to the program. I figured if I wasn't going to follow it, there was no sense in having it. Good rule of thumb is, eat protien first, then veggies. no bread, no Pasta, no rice, no potatoes, and count carbs, less than 30 carbs a day, veggie carbs dont count. Good luck on your journey.

  14. Hello,

I had my band in April 21st. and have lost 43lbs since the band, or so my scaled this morning and 40 lbs before during my 6mth diet i had to do. I am on my 3rd fill and have great5 restriction. You usually dont have restriction until the 3rd or 4th fill. Until then you are still on your own to lose the weight. Good rule to remember is Protein first, then veggies. no Pasta, no bread, no rice, no potatoes. anything else you eat besides meat, fish, chicken, seafood, pork or turkey and veggies, you have to count the carbs. Stay below 30 carbs a day and you will lose. Good luck on your journey.
