    I'm finally posting!!

Congrats on being banding. Early morning you will usually tight. I try not to eat bread for that reason, cause bread swells up. Fried chicken is okay to eat, as long as you dont eat the skin or the crust. Dark meat is easier to swallow than white meat. I am going tuesday for my 3rd fill. I have now lost 76lbs Good luck on your weight loss.
  2. Well first off, you didnt say what type of insurance. Im assuming you know it will be covered. my husbands insurance and my company insurance is with the same insurance company, his plan covers the procedures by my company didnt include it in their plan. Luckily I am covered under his. Most insurance companies require some type of diet plan first anywhere from 3-6 months. I started my process in September of 2007, by the time we followed the insurance guidelines and completed all the required tests. I was banded finally in April 2008. I would just let your employer know for now that you have a doctors appt and that is it. Advise her it was planned before she offered you the jobs. Then after your insurance kicks in and you get all the details on how they work it, then go from there. My surgeon only does the operations on certain days of the week. Mine was done on a Monday. You kinda work around the doctors schedule and the insurance company. I have lost a total of 76lbs. Good luck on your journey.
  3. The band is just a tool. You have to work hard at losing the weight. Eat alot of protein, meat, fish, chicken, seaford, pork, eggs and cheese. eat that first then eat some veggies if you are hungry. Stay away from bread, pasta, rice, potatoes and junk food. no soda, after the meat and veggies if you have to eat something like fruit count the carbs. stay at 30 or below on your carbs. I have been following this food plan since january and I am now down by 76lbs. i lost 40 before my surgery and lost 36 since. I was banded April 21st. I go next week for my 3rd fill, which will give me more restrictions. You should only eat about 1/2 to 3/4 cups of food at one sitting. Do not drink liquids while eating. Wait at least 30 min after each meal to drink. then only sip the liquids. The more carbs you eat, the more you crave them and you will not lose. You need about 60-90 grams of protein a day. no snacks between meals. If you do make it high in protein. 1/4 cup of pumpkin seeds has 19 grams of protein. anything you drink make it sugar free. same with popsicles and pudding make it sugar free. What happens is your gets to many carbs then all it does is store it. Start excercising or walking. Well good luck on your journey.
  4. remember that first thing in the morning, you will be tight. cause your stomach swells in the middle of the night so your band will be tighter. it is okay to skip breakfast because of this.

Question for someone banned with Cigna

I have cigna also. The hospital submitted a claim and it is still pending. I was banded on April 21, 2008. They havent paid anything as of yet. Go onto their website and watch your claims carefully. Cause they have denied a few claims and had to run them back through because I am covered. I still have a claim pending back to november 2007 for my psyc eval. Another reason to watch it carefully is if the doc send something under the wrong code it wont get paid. I have to pay my copay and then 20 of what is left.

    Pain in chest

You shouldnt of had the soup. Follow your doctors plan. For the first 3 days you are to be on clear liquid only. Cream of chicken soup is to heavy and you should only be sipping liquids all day long. Then when you go on full liquids which consists of protein shakes, you only drink like 2 oz at a time every hour. While sipping water or sugar drinks in between. You body hasnt heal from the operation, Remember the band is sewed to your stomach so you have stiches inside that have to heal. The pain should go away. Very importat to do what your doc says.

Hey 50 & over gang We have a new spot

Hello Everyone, I am just curious about what a portion size is. I go for another fill in August. I have noticed that I can eat more than I was previously. I am still steadily losing, but I think I am eating to much. How much is to much? My ticker line isnt correct. I have lost 71lbs now. I cant seem to update it.

5 weeks out of surgery what to exspect

Hello, You usually don'thave much restriction after the first fill. You will feel more restriction after each fill. It sometimes takes 3-5 fills, sometimes more depending on how much is injected. Dont get discouraged. Just follow your doctors plan.
  13. The gas pain will subside over time. The more your walk the better. So about every hour take a stroll through you house or your yard. This also helps to keep you body from getting stiff and sore. A heating pad will also help with it. Keep in mind you dont have hardly any restriction right now so it is possible to gain alot of weight during the next few weeks as you go backa to solid food. After you get back on solid food eat a high protien low carb diet. Watch portion size as well. I was advised by my doc, no bread, no rice, no pasta, no potatoes and no fruits. All are high in carbs, eat meat, fish, chicken, seafood and green veggies. Anything out side of the meat and veggies count the carbs and if you keep it 30 or below you will lose weight. I have been doing this since January 2008, banded since April 21st, 2008 and I have lost 71lbs total. 31 since my operation. Good luck to you all.
  14. I don't drink protein drinks that you mix with milk. Im not a milk fan and the drinks make me gag. I ate tuna and chicken salad. The chicken had to be ran through a food processer. The food processor was my friend during the mushie stage. I ate eggs, or egg beaters, and grated cheese. When the rest of the family had roast. I ran it through the processor and had bbq beef. Chicken has 21 to 31 proteins depending on portion size. So if you eat enought chicken, meat, fish and seafood you dont have to drink the protein drinks. There is a protein called beneprotien, that is colorless and can be added to your cystal light drinks or added to you food. I have used it my tuna salad, soups and other foods. Just not eggs cause it doesn't mix well. If you search the web there are other ones out there as well.

    Can't get the balance right!

I was banded April 21, 2008. I don't get a lot of gas. I drink about 64oz of fluid a day. I dont normally get hungry but when I do and my stomach growls I will eat about 10-15 cashews, which helps. My doc said stop drinking 10 before and dont drink until 20-30 min after. Tell your doctor about the gas pains. Cause they should have stopped by now.

    Pre-op Diet

You can drink crystal light preop and postop. When you go to clear liquids you will be drinking alot of it along with sugar free propsicles. I find the sugar life saver popsicles are very good.

    Just banded

I had my band on Monday, April 21st. The first 3 days after surgery I hurt really bad, but today I feel great. I still have some gas pains, but all in all I feel great. Today I started on full liquids and on Tuesday I start on soft food. This is just the beginning.:biggrin2:
