  1. If he is 2 days out from his surgery he should be on clear liquids until he is 4 days out, meaning crystal light and sugar free popsicles, then he should be on full liquids after that which means jello, protein shakes and such, then 9 days out should be on mushy foods until about 16 days out.then he will be on a normal diet. yogurt is too think when you are 2 days out.

    Constapation has me down

That is a sore subject for most of us. Ask you doctor. They have things they can prescribe to keep you regulated. I had an xray done and found out that going once a week for me is normal cause I dont consume enough foods to go more than that. Good luck on your journey.
  5. Hello, I live in Jacksonville area also. My doctor was Dr. Cywes. I just love going to him. He takes the time to listen to all my concerns. I was banded April 21, 2008. Good luck on your journey.

    Newbie getting banded Dec 12th!!!!

Congratulations! I was banded April 21, 2008. It has been an interesting experience. Has it been easy? Yes, sometimes and then other times, not so much. Keep in mind, that the band doesn't fail you. You fail the band. So if you are not losing weight like you should, then you need to see what you are doing wrong. The band is only a tool. I love my band. It keeps me from overeating. Good luck on your journey. Doreen

    Wt. loss has stopped

Congrats on your weight loss. You may just need to go back to the basic. Start the program over. Try 2 days of clear liquids, then add protein shakes for 2 days then mushies for about 4days before going back on solids. I was banded April 22, 2008 and I have lost 96lbs. When I hit a plateau I go on liquids for about 2 days and I increase my excercise by walking an extra 15-30 min. I will admit this hasnt been as easy as I thought it would be. But it is working and I am not gaining. Good luck on your journey.

    Confused

I chose the band beacuse it has a lot less complications. I am 5'2 and started out at 318lbs I now weight 228. I have lost 90lbs and still losing. It is a slower process, but I know my insides are all in tact and that if there is a complication the band can be removed. I have 4 friends who have had the bypass and 3 of them have gained over half of their weight back. With the band after I lose all my weight and I start to gain. I can go back and get a fill. Do your homework about both surgeries. It is your body and your decision not the doctors. Good luck on your journey.

    New here! Scared

You did excellent for you first month. But dont be discouraged with your first fill. You will fill restriction for just a few days to a week. But you will still be able to eat. Just remember to follow the program. Eat proteins first, veggies next. Stay away from bread, rice, potatoes and pasta and count the carbs. For best weight loss stay below 30 carbs a day. Veggies carbs dont count, but fruit carbs do. I am half way to my goal. I have had 3 fils and I now have restriction. The amount of restriction you have will depend on how much you doctor puts in your band. If you go off the program for a meal. Just get right back on, dont beat yourself up about it. We all stray off sometimes. The band won't fail you when you get restriction, but you can fail by eating the wrong things and gain weight. Good luck on your journey.
  14. My energy level has gone way up. I can at walk my husband now. Before I could barely walk the grocery store. Had lots of body pain, couldnt climb stairs, had headaches alot. Was depressed alot. Now I have so much energy it is unreal. And I go out to eat with friends. I just eat slowly and I order foods like braised ribs and eat what I want and take the rest home. They all know I have the band so no one makes comments on how much i eat. I have 2.5 pounds to go and I hit the half way mark. I wouldn't change anything for the world. Infact I am going to have a pin made up when I lose 100lbs to say..I've lost 100lbs ask me how. Well good luck.

    Had surgery yesterday -- help!

Call you doctor and let him know. Hate to find out that cold you have could be a side affect of the operation. Anytime you have an operation you can get pneumonia. That is why they usually like you to breath deeply and cough to expel the gas in your lungs.
  16. Hello, I would find out why he is requesting a second surgeon, just for my own piece of mind. When I had my surgery only my surgeon was there.

    A few questions....

Hello I have had 3 fills so far. I have 7cc. I see my doctor every 4wks. Only once he didnt put any liquid in my band. I dont think you absorb any of the liquids unless there is a leak. I have a doctors apt friday so I will ask him about it. Cause now I am curious. You might be taking in to big of a bite then then chewing and swallowing. The smaller the bit the better and the slower you eat the better. Well good luck on your journey.

    Confused

Hello, I have had a 3rd fill also. I have found if you wait an hour after eating before drinking and you only sip liquids slowly you dont get hungry as fast and I eat about 1/2 cup to 3/4 cups of food, depending on what it is. I noticed if I eat salad I can eat more, but get hungry faster. If I eat chicken it stays with me longer. Also I have found If I find things to do that keep my mind off of food Im not so hungry. Cause sometimes I will think I am hungry when I am not, just because I am bored. Good luck on your journey

I feel like I'm failing my band...

Sorry to say you arent failing your band you are failing yourself. I know it isnt easy cause my husband eats all the junk food like your husband does. When he eats it I find things to do or I eat sugar free pudding or fudgesicles. Then there are times that I give in and have a scoop of ice cream. Then I get right back on the program. Then I give myself a pep talk and remind myself how much money have invested in this and how much weight I have lost and the only person that it is hurting is myself. My doc was honest from the first. Said it wouldnt be easy to lose the weight. He also said he was my gate keeper. He will control how much my stomach will hold until I lose my weight and can control it myself, but it was up to me to make the right choices.

    Nausea 4 weeks out???? Help!!

I use to get nausea and still do at times only when I am hungry and haven't eaten. I will get dizzy and light headed, but then the smell of food make it any better. It hightens the fact that I am hungry. If I eat it usually goes away after the food has passed from my pouch to my stomach. Good luck on your journey.

    6 Month "Diet" Requirement

Hello, My insurance company required a 6mth diet as well. So my surgeon put me on the high Protein low carb diet. During the 6mth month I just visited his office, the nurtitionist, had the pshyc during that time. It went by really fast. But there was no guidelines except to be on a diet and show progress of some type. Good luck on your journey. I was banded April 21, 2008 and my scale this morning says I have now lost 87lbs.
