Yep, let's.say the Protein in the cheese outweighs the wheat- bearing crust, sound good?

Absolutely--and the crust there is super thin so definitely a wash. I was really able enjoy it too, which I was happy about. I used to eat an entire regular-sized Mod pizza so eating a quarter of the mini one AND feeling like I got to eat something of substance that tasted good was a treat. I'll take it!

Happy Mother’s Day! My husband is doing the cooking and it’s chili for lunch for us! This is great!!

Happy birthday! I wanted pizza with hubby and kids for Mother's Day. I wanted to Mod Pizza (it's a place where you can make your own pizza, sorta like Chipotles). I at a quarter of their mini pizza. I splurged, but that is all I dared to eat. It was a cheese pizza so I got in some protein.... right?

Gotta, I totally agree--I fall back on shakes as my default whenI don't want to figure out how to get my Protein from "real" food, which can be exhausting at times, especially at work. However, my nutritionist told me last week that she wants to to wean myself off of shakes. She says one per day for now, but going down to zero as soon as possible.

Oh no, you are being weaned off? I'm going to have to ask my NUT at my next post op if she wants me to do the same. I do know that I am supposed to be getting a larger variety of Proteins, but I don't want to give up my morning Protein Shake. Noooooooooo.😞

I feel like how much food I can hold varies from day to day. Stress plays a big part. Pre-surgery I was a stress and emotional eater. Now it's the opposite. If I'm stressed I have little interest in food and go back to Protein Shakes because it's an easy way to make sure I'm getting some calories and Protein in.

NYC--I do not really attribute stress to not wanting to eat, but I do often default to a Protein Shake because it's so easy. I don't feel like thinking about figuring out what to eat and sometimes see my options as so limited that I grab a shake. I still have my Protein shake as breakfast in my car during my commute to work but it's when I eat a small amount at dinner I wait for an hour or so and then feel hunger so I grab a shake. The shakes are definitely the easiest options for me. I worry I this habit may lead to eventually taking in too many calories. Not sure why the food industry hasn't come up with premade "bariatric meals" yet! Might be a great business to start!

Okay so since today was my 90 day surgiversary I got on the scale mid-week.

    BIG MISTAKE!!!

I’ve lost exactly zero ounces since Sunday. 😩😩😩

Anyway, I still plastered a fake smile on because it is time for progress pics.

Forgive the look, but it’s my day off and I’m about to head out for Pilates. Slept like crap last night because we had t-storms all night and the cats were freaking out.
Think I got about 3 hrs sleep all added together....

You go girl! Thanks for posting. Love seeing progress photos. You look great despite the lack of sleep!

You know it’s so funny I am still on auto pilot with my eating and so forth. When my husband asked me what I wanted to do for my birthday immediately I was like Ruth Chris. Then I realized... what’s the point? I think we’re still going to go out to dinner tomorrow night and I will just split with him!

It’s been a major adaptation for him too because he was like a wild animal with his plate when I first started asking him to split with me. You would’ve thought it was his last meal on earth. Now that we’ve been out to eat a few times he can tell it’s such a waste for me to order a whole meal for myself. So I think he is starting to release the death grip on his plate and just order a little larger portion and share.

Everythinganna--same for me! I have SO many places I wanted to go for Mother's Day but then I realized...meh...it wouldn't be worth it. I love looking over menus but hate wasting food so I usually just pick from my husband's plate and try to make eating 6 bites last as long as possible. I ordered a kid's quesadilla from Chili's the other night and it was way too greasy. I was good and ordered the steam broccoli as a side and got the chocolate milk so my husband could have it. I picked the cheese off and downed some broccoli stems and then I was like, I'm done! I was shocked at how much my daughter and husband could eat in that same amount of time. Don't the portions look so huge and overwhelming when ya'll go out to eat now? Amazing.

Gotta, I just this minute tried the Bariatric Advantage soft chews--one grape and one strawberry-watermelon. Wow, what a difference! I have dreaded chewing my Vitamins every day, but these actually taste sort of good. Thanks so much for the suggestion. I'm switching immediately and never looking back!

So glad you found one you like! I meant to say that for the Iron + C vitamins, I take the Celebrate brand soft-chews in pineapple. I like those even better than the black grape Multivitamin chews. If you are taking Calcium, I found that the lemon-flavored Bariatric Advantage ones taste pretty good.

  8. 29 minutes ago, Recidivist said:

So, let's talk Vitamins. I originally got tablets, but they were too big for me to swallow. I then got chewables, and they are so disgusting that they literally make me nauseous.

Before I try yet another type, I'd like to hear which type of Vitamins you all prefer. What about soft chews? gummies? Quick melts? powders? liquids? Is there anything that's not disgusting?

Hi Recidivist--my NUT gave out a bunch of Vitamin samples prior to surgery and I found that for me, the only ones I found doable were the soft chews. I take the black grape Bariatric Advantage multivitamin soft chews (AVOID the orange-flavored ones--ick) and the Pineapple-flavored Iron plus C chews. They start off sweet and then have a sour ending...very strange, really, but they do NOT taste minerally at all. I also take Fiber gummies to manage Constipation and I think of them as little treats (like Gummy bears). If I didn't enjoy the soft chews, I'd go for the gummy versions. My NUT even said Flintstone vitamins were OK for the multivitamin!

  9. I am surprised your surgeon only replied with a "no" without an explanation. I would definitely call him tomorrow and ask him what is happening. Sorry, I don't want to frighten you, but unless you have severe environmental allergies that create drainage, vomiting mucus seems abnormal to me. I hope you get answers soon.

  10. No, but the fact that you can't keep any food down is probably what's going on. My helpful hint for the barium swallow: plug your nose when drinking the barium. Plugging the nose temporarily "closes off" your taste buds. When I had mine done I did this after surgery...the technicians thought I was whacko but when I told them why, they said "what a great idea"! No one likes drinking that stuff! Good luck and let us know how it goes!

Oh, yeah... I'm losing hair. It's hard to quantify, but, like, a good ping-pong sized hairball every time I have a shower and more in between times. Had my hair cut shorter and I dyed it black. Pic attached. Still looks like I have plenty when I puff it up with sea salt spray, but believe me, it's thinning!

I'm feeling okay. I don't get anywhere near my Protein goals - I'm lucky to get 30-45g per day. Lots of what I eat I vomit, so I'm mainly existing on coffee and the odd Protein Shake and maybe one 'meal' (sometimes a handful of peanuts, sometimes half a heaped cup of food). I see my surgeon today, so goodness knows what he'll say about that.

I try to get 7k steps in on a normal day. I have a new position on the executive of Romance Writers of NZ, and I'm practicing being more assertive and less introverted. It's a challenge!

Sounds like you're doing well, gotta! Just have to take this thing one day at a time. We'll get there! IMG20190502113548.jpeg

Love that expression on your face! I have similar hair as yours, only blonde, which I highlight, and thinner. I finally made an appointment with my hair stylist because my color is getting drab and roots are showing darker. My hair hasn't grown much at all since surgery and I'm worried that the chemicals she'll be using on my hair will make the hair fall out like crazy BUT it's time to reshape the bob style and freshen the color. Did you notice Hair loss accelerating after you colored your hair? I have been holding out on this appointment but my hair is a hot mess.

Okay so yesterday I found myself googling “low calorie mint juleps” in honor of Derby Day.
Then I remembered that actually going to the Derby is on my bucket list.
In fact, hubs and I have talked to all of our friends and family and whoever is interested is going to go with us in 2021.
Even though that’s still 2 years away, I decided I want to look as FABULOUS as possible on that day and I will drink my mint julep in 2 years rather than yesterday.

You will look FABULOUS in your Derby hat!

I had a miserable Saturday--so nauseous that I couldn't eat or take any of my meds. Things are better today, but I'm still a bit queasy. On the plus side, I've lost 2 pounds. After being stalled at 188 for almost a week, I'm now at 186!

Any idea why you had all that nausea? Can you attribute it to anything? Sounds awful. Congrats on the weightloss. I'm stalled at 189..... Don't want the nausea though. BTW, could you take Zofran? It's a lifesaver for me (the kind that dissolve in your mouth).

Hello February people! Hope everyone had a fabulous weekend!

It rained all weekend AND I ate 8 salt and vinegar potato chips. I must have hit the part of this journey when I crave the bad stuff again. Whoa. Not good. I did buy some salt and vinegar almonds to eat from now on when I have the salty crunchy crazies. I felt like I was really slipping this weekend once I had the potato chips and had no adverse reaction. PLUS I only lost like 4 ozs in the last two weeks. Putting things in perspective, though, I'm feeling good overall!

I need support. At the beach and really really want the Cinco De mayo margarita!

Goddy222--if it helps....last night I went to Chili's with my husband and daughter. We used to both order the Presidente Margaritas. Last night he ordered one and I had a sip (the first alcohol to pass my lips). It was too salty and I didn't even want another sip. Plus, it sorta burned going down. If you are at the beach with someone, just ask if you can have a taste. It will probably be all you need!

OK so what I put about the construction workers was mostly a joke. But later in the day today, as I was driving home, someone pulled up next to me in a truck, rolled their window down, and shook a large, fluorescent sex toy at me. Now if that doesn’t say “hey you’ve lost weight!” I don’t know what does! I guess I am grasping for straws here. But I am getting some attention! Haha!

    I. Can't. Even. Who keeps that in their vehicle? Too funny.

Congratulations Sheribear and Froufrou! It's really motivating to hear about the successes of others in our group.

One the other end of the spectrum, I've been stalled for about a week, even gaining a pound on some days. I'm now exercising regularly and am strictly observing the food program, so there's no explanation. (Of course, I am stuck at 189 pounds, so I guess I can't really complain. 🙂 )

That is a huge weight loss, Recidivist. I'm at the exact same weight as you but started at 230. You are rocking it! As for your stall, were you starting to eat wrong foods or too much food? Just curious.

I've been MIA (and I'm still trying to catch up on the forums), but since December (when I started the WLS process) I've lost 81 pounds 🙂

Half of that is probably hair **sobs into my hairbrush** but I'm closing in on 100kgs and that's pretty awesome.

Great to see everyone still chugging along and supporting each other! ❤️

Hi EmzBee--wondered where you went to. Good to hear from you. 81 pounds!!! I can't believe it! So, you ARE losing hair. Are you losing a lot? I am afraid that is still coming for me. 😞 How have you been feeling? I get asked that question soooo many times and to be honest, I'm still not feeling "great," but mainly just frustrated with how long it takes me to eat, stomach gurgling after I do eat that feels like hunger pains, some chest discomfort, figuring out what to eat, intestinal distress, etc. I want to say "I feel great" but wonder if I every will. On the bright side, losing 40 lbs has been great. I don't seem to be losing it as fast as y'all but I'm only doing 5,000 steps of exercise a day. Just hoping the scale will continue to be my friend at 1lb or so a week.

The app I posted that from is from the scale I purchased at the beginning of March.
It’s a Weight Guru scale and the matching app.
I like it a lot and it also syncs with apple health and my fitness pal.
Scale was about $50 at bed bath and beyond and I used a 20% off coupon for it so I thought that was a decent bargain.

Thanks. I think there is also some sort of bariatric pal app. Anyone know what I'm talking about?

    Okay guys.
I HAVE to post this because I’m sooooooooo freaking excited I can’t stand it.

My big goal for April was to weigh under 200 pounds and I’ve got to admit I was absolutely sure I would miss it by a couple pounds because I lose so slowly.
Friday morning I was weighing 202 and I was afraid to get on the scale so soon, but since this is the last day in April I just needed to know.

Anyway, this happened and it’s the lowest I’ve weighed since 2005 when I hit the upper 180’s for about 5 minutes.
Can’t wait to actually hit the goal of weighing under 186 (the lowest I’ve weighed since 1996), but that will have to be a goal I set for June. 🤣🤣

    image-0.00298023223876953.jpg

Absolutely fantastic!!!!!! Where is that screenshot from? I know, it's probably an app I should already know about and be using, but I've just decided to track more closely and this looks like a nifty way of doing it.

At first I would have said 'no it shouldn't matter', but I am guessing it still does because you are trying to keep the Protein in your pouch for as long as possible?

I view the Protein shakes/drinks just as i do Water. If I eat food, I wait at least 20 minutes to drink a Protein Shake or water. Same applies if I just finished a protein drink. I wait 20 minutes to eat solid food.

Hey Everyone! I haven't posted in a while. Once a day for the last 2 days now, I have experienced severe pain right at the bottom of my sternum and last for about 15 minutes. It is a horrible pain, that nothing seems to relieve. I am about 2.5 months out and didn't do anything differently. Has anyone experienced this before.? Any suggestions. I see the Surgeon on Monday for my next follow up.

Sent from my SM-N950U using BariatricPal mobile app

Hi sjemie--Can you attribute that pain to (1) eating faster than normal or (2) a specific food (e.g., bread, Pasta, etc.)? I have had pain in that area when I've accidentally eaten faster than normal or ate something that was "thick." Does the pain feel like a crushing pain or something other?
