February 2019 weight loss buds
Gottajustdoit replied to TheMarine79's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Thanks R. For some reason the pain relievers are agitating my stomach. I'm a regular Advil taker for my joint pain, so I took that. I may try Tylenol tomorrow to see if that helps and doesn't bother my stomach. With only liquids, Advil seems to make me nauseous. 😥 -

Congratulations! You made it! What was the drinking test like? You have to swallow barium, right? It's encouraging that you able to send a note to us so soon after surgery. How badly doest your stomach hurt? Is it hard to get the Jello down? Sorry, so many questions. -

Good luck, Big Bari! I'm on day three. NOT easy, for sure, as you try to come up with a variety of things to take but the variety doesn't last long. I am up to 4 to 6 protein shakes a day and strained Progresso soup. They are my go-tos. I was also told I should have at least 700 calories a day---but not sure how to find them as the liquid options are not rich in calories. Please share your ideas! -

Yes, it sounds normal. Especially if you didn’t wean yourself off of caffeine prior. The headaches, dizziness, and weakness lasted about 4 days for me. It does get better, though, so hang in there!! So, it turns out the nurse wanted me to go to the ER last night for fear of dehydration. Not fun, but I did get fluids and something to stop the nausea and vomiting. The ER doc said it was the flu going around, but I just don't know. I took today off work and am so exhausted. It feels so weird to not want to eat but to be very hungry. The headache is not as bad, but stlll very much there. Has anyone else had severe nausea and a splitting headache early into the liquid diet? -

Oh man. I'm on day 2 of all-liquids and it's hard as I'm very hungry, but the splitting headache and nausea from withdrawal are horrible. I'm not sure if I'm suffering caffeine withdrawal or sugar withdrawal. My head is pounding and I'm queasy. Is this normal??? -

Sounds like you're in great shape. I would recommend unflavored protein if you don't already have it. If you need to get in more protein you can just add it to the chicken broth. I bought mine from Unjury. -

lid--any reason why you didn't share it with those closest to you? Do you have someone to help you home after surgery? -

I'm having gastric bypass and my doctor said I'll only be in the hospital one night unless I'm not doing well. Hope you can leave sooner. Good idea about bringing your own pillow. And thanks for reminding me to bring my Chapstick. Ugh. The CPAP! I have a love/hate relationship with mine and hope that someday I will no longer need it (although my brother is the perfect weight and he has been on one for years). I was diagnosed with sleep apnea about 6 years ago and still hate the darn machine, but if I miss even one night I'm miserable the next day. Here's to a CPAP-less future for both of us! -

jenniefeefee--WOW that is a long pre-op diet. Sounds like we have the exact pre-op diet. Have you started on your multivitamins, iron, and calcium or do you start them after the surgery only? How have you been managing the all-liquids so far? Any tips? -

Wow, I think that makes four of us on the 13th. Big day! I start all-liquids tomorrow and I have more than enough liquid varieties to make sure I can survive at least through tomorrow. 😁 I am prepared for being bored to death by day three. Well, probably by the end of day 1! -

Welcome to the FEB 2019 group Everythinganna! I'm have gastric bypass, without the option for the sleeve because I have gastroperesis and acid reflux. I've been told that the gastric bypass helps reduce the reflux whereas if I got that sleeve, my reflux would only get worse. I'm not sure if that is "commonly known" or even false, but that is what my surgeon told me when I was hoping for the sleeve. If you have reflux, maybe you could ask your surgeon given you're on the fence. Hope all goes well! -

Idawn--I have never heard of taking in so much sugar before surgery. Then again, I have Type 1 diabetes so that would be one of the worst things for me to take. My blood sugar would shoot up to 300+. I continue to be fascinated by how different the pre-op requirements are for surgery. Among our February group alone the variances are amazing. Is your surgery on Sunday? -

It's FEBRUARY today. It's our month! I've been trying to map everyone's surgery dates but lost track. I know two of you share my surgery date on February 13. For those of you on your pre-op diet, hang in there! I start all clears on Sunday. I spent an hour walking through the aisles of Wegman's (a local grocery store) today looking for interesting things to have at home. My cart was full on very boring items! I am trying a variety of flavored waters, Mio drops, Crystal Light Energy (for must-have caffeine), Jell-O, and protein shakes. My nutritionist said I could strain regular soups (ex: Progresso) so I'll do that since I'll be saving the Unjury chicken broth until after surgery. Who's up first for surgery this month? -

2B--I recently read an article that said that in some cases, it is better to have bariatric surgery before morbid obesity to avoid having the problems so many of us have with high cholesterol, diabetes, knee and back pain, etc. I am sure your insurance would not have approved it if it wasn't in the interest of your health. And we all know going through surgery and having to work super hard afterward isn't something one does just for the heck of trying a new weight-loss strategy. We have a long road ahead of us and feeling guilty should not be one of the emotions you need to deal with through it all. Take heart! As for vitamins, I ordered Celebrate multichews and I really like the Iron + C pineapple ones. The lemon Calcium Citrate are also pretty good. I am not a fan of the orange-flavored Celebrate multivitimin so I'm looking for a better one. I'm going to try black grape of a different brand. Of all the ones I've tried, I liked the soft chews better than the chewable tablets. -
I think I may be better at consuming only broth if it comes in a cute or handy drinkable vessel. Any one have a recommendation? There has to be a product out there....look at the water bottle industry and how it has boomed since Yeti and other companies have come along with cool water bottles. If you know of something, let me know! A drinkable soup might be a good idea for me too! Thanks!

Fun Containers to Drink Broth From?
Gottajustdoit replied to Gottajustdoit's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
My box of this broth came this week. I ordered it based on your suggestion. I'll let you know what I think of it when I go on my all-liquid diet, starting Sunday. I also bought the Swanson all-natural broth. Did you try that? I heard it was one of the better tasting. -

Fun Containers to Drink Broth From?
Gottajustdoit replied to Gottajustdoit's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I need to start my all-liquid diet on February 3 for 10 days. I can have broth, which will probably be one of the tastiest things I'll having during those days and of course for a few weeks after my surgery. -

Ugh, that's tough. Crystal Light makes a mix you can add to water that has caffeine in it. My nutritionist told me about it. I am not a tea or coffee drinker, and get my caffeine via two Diet Cokes a day. I must say Goodbye to Diet Coke starting Sunday, but can have the Crystal Light mix. Do you think you can do that, or must you get off caffeine pre-op per your surgeon's requirement? -

I think eating out will be very hard for me, both while I'm on all-liquids and post-surgery. I have a colleague who had the gastric sleeve surgery last year and says she still orders whatever looks good to her and eats only a few bites of it. I plan on just eating bits of what my husband/kids order. My wonderful, but frugal, husband might be happy we're saving money! Advice needed: is it better to eat with the family while on the liquid diet or separately so I can't see and smell the food? We live in a large metro area and with all of our commutes to work and school, we have little time to make and clean up regular dinners. Consequently, we only make dinner a few nights a week; we order takeout or eat in restaurants a lot. For those of you who eat out a lot, what is your plan???? -

I plan to buy the "sugar-free" Original Brand Popsicle," which you can get in your local grocery store or Target. I am not sure the simply fruit ones will be good given they have a lot of natural sugar. Then again, I may be wrong on that! My kids grew up on the ones I'm getting and I liked them! -

On February 3 (10 days before), I have to go on a no-sugar, low carb all-liquid diet. Unfortunately, no solid foods, like bars, for me. 😥I am looking forward to the little bit of "food" I can have, such as sugar-free Jell-o and sugar-free popscicles! -
