Going thru RNY alone? Need someone overnight?
SimoneMonet posted a topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Hi All: For those of you who have had the RNY - how necessary is it to have someone with you? I know that you need someone to bring you home. The reason I ask is b/c my husband is going through health issues and most likely will not be able to be with me. We talked about it, but I don't think he has the endurance or stamina to even sit through the surgery or be able to sleep on the sofa/couch. So really, it's unlikely I will have anyone overnight or maybe even through the surgery, etc. And I don't really have anyone around me who can be my advocate or stay with me otherwise. I'm on my own. Have any of you done the surgery on your own? Please advise. Thanks! Jeanne -
I went through that as well - the most terrible headache. Mine finally broke. I did take tylenol and tried to sleep it off as much as I could.

Rheumatoid Arthritis and Gastric Bypass

This is very encouraging!! Thank you for the reply! I'll also look into the Voltaren gel! -
Greetings all: Checking in with everyone - for those of you with dates in the first week of January. how are your liquid diets going ? The liquid diet hasn't been easy, but I think finally the caffeine headache kinda broke. I've just cleared the 300 mark. I haven't been under 300 in years. I know a lot of it's water weight but *still*! . I started out at 313 went up to 320 during the 6 mos diet and am now at 298. Woohoo!! Progress! Keeps me motivated. *That* and the popsicles! One thing - it looks like I'm going to be through this alone. A little emotional about that. My husband is going through gastro health issues and doesn't think he can stay with me at the hospital - he needs his own personal bathroom. We're all adults here talking medical stuff so I don't think I'm sharing TMI. Anyone else doing the same - doing this on your own? I feel very much alone as there is really no one else who can help me through this. I hope all of you are doing well!! Looking forward to hearing about everyone's journey! Jeanne

Pantry/Fridge/Freezer Purge - Does everyone do it?
SimoneMonet posted a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
So I'm almost done with the Purge. Got rid of almost everything in the pantry, fridge and freezer (donated to the local bread pantry and friends) except that which I will continue to be on for the remainder of my pre-surg liquid diet and what I will be on post-op. I left microwave popcorn - although my gut told me not to...LOL. But my husband asked pretty please. I just requested that he NOT make it while I am at home and not pre-surgery. I don't think I can take the smell. It's too tempting!! 🤣 I also left what my husband will be eating. Basic staples, etc. Did all of this while I ate my sugar free popsicle - which btw was pretty tasty. -

I'm starting out with thin hair and trying to take biotin to make sure I don't have a massive loss. However, just to plan, and so I'm educated - Is there a particular place you order from or can recommend for toppers? -

Get them when you can. I would say that I was in a moment of ARRRRRRGH and it was the popsicle that saved me...LOL. SAVED me. -
2 week liquid diet. how will I survive!
SimoneMonet replied to Wendums's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
So yes, I was tired the first few days on this Clear All Liquid Diet. TIRED and cranky. My surgery is Jan. 2. I still have the transition headache weaning off of the diet cokes...although tonight seems to be tapering off. The biggest thing is the 'clean out' I experienced over the last 5 days that always seems to happen when I'm on protein drinks - I've been drinking the chocolate Premier ones. I definitely don't need an enema...ha! I ate a few diluted creamy soups REALLY hot and strained. My diet allowed one portion of plain soupy grits (or cereal - oatmeal or cream of wheat) in the morning - that helped to keep me full and the Oiko's zero yogurt. I also got a few of the Light Yoplait yogurts as well to switch things up. I got a variety of flavors Gatorade Zeros and Powerade Zeros. And I allowed myself a sugar free pudding or sugar free jello to mix things up as well. I just bought the sugar-free popsicles. This will pretty much be the diet after the surgery minus the grits for a few weeks so i better get used to it now. -
Here's some recipes that my dietitian gave - y'all may have the same ones. Some of the flavor may help to get the protein down.

Clothing while you're losing weight
SimoneMonet replied to xMissyChrissy's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Well, I'm just going to say how exciting!! : )))) Progress! I don't own any pants so I can't share the EXACT same experience with you, BUT Since losing my first 15 lbs, last week as I got out of my car in front of Wal-Mart - my undies came down around my ankles since I was wearing a dress. It's nice to share that joy with someone else...LOL. My husband was actually quite horrified as this happened right outside the entrance. I just flipped them up with my foot and then kept walking in... Hopefully, I won't end up on You-Tube!! -
Congrats to all who are on your liquid diet. I have been on mine as well to prep for my Jan 2 surgery. Only lost 5 lbs though since starting. But still, better than nothing. I know I will be losing more slowly due to being on Steroids. For the most part I've been drinking Powerade, eating creamy soup, 2 protein drinks and sugar free pudding, water, and a portion of grits per day. My only distraction was a stale bag of Fritos I found in the cupboard. I ate a single Frito and then wet the entire rest of the bag so I wouldn't be able to eat more. HA. 🤪 I felt like a crazy person doing that but honestly I typically don't gorge but the thought of something crunchy almost drove me bonkers..LOL. I only wanted to say is that I am experiencing extreme anxiety regarding the surgery. I am not an anxious person by nature, but I couldn't even drive home from our Christmas holiday today. Now home I'm feeling a little better. I think it's a combo of being on this liquid diet and the never ending headache (6 days) I have currently as I wean off of caffeine, diet cokes, solids, and Aleve that I use for my Rheumatoid Arthritis. And I'm cold. I guess without carbs to keep me warm. I'm cold - a chill that just WON'T go away and I ache a bit. So I bought a heating pad - since the Surgeon said to bring one along to the hospital, but I'm using it even now to stay warm. And...my husband..who cannot afford to lose weight - lost 7 lbs this week as he was trying to not distract me with foods that I cannot eat so he ate the same thing. Sweet, but oy that made me feel guilty. I've also made sure to walk at least 30 mins per day since starting the liquid diet. I figured I'd better be prepared before going into surgery to do that so I can continue afterward! HUGS to all of you!! Keep positive - stick to your liquid diets. Keep your eye on the goal!

Rheumatoid Arthritis and Gastric Bypass
SimoneMonet replied to SimoneMonet's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I am taking Humira now - it has helped somewhat. But I had to stop to prep for the surgery or else it makes me prone to not healing and infections. I don't mind going back on ...the risk is that it won't work when I go back on....I'll keep you posted on how it goes. I just hope..HOPE that I can lose weight and hope that I don't flare -

Rheumatoid Arthritis and Gastric Bypass
SimoneMonet replied to SimoneMonet's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Hey...thanks for the reply. I'm going to try and taper. My surgeon was not very optimistic about me losing weight while on steroids and neither was the nutritionist. BUT one thing I cannot do...is going back to being completely incapacitated. THAT pain..that pain was unbearable. I couldn't even lift a sheet. -

Breast Lift with Implants
SimoneMonet replied to logicwand's topic in Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery
First off, Congrats on your weight loss! You did great. And BTW, you're absolutely gorgeous. As for your breast adjustment. I agree, not too over the top. The surgeon did an excellent job and they are very proportional to your body size/waist. I want!! I've already lost 15 lbs and I feel like they are drooping to Timbuktu! Thank you for posting, for sure! I'm more motivated than ever! -
Gastric bypass tomorrow I am really nervous. What was surgery day like for you?
SimoneMonet replied to Bypassgirl92's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have to tell you....ty so much for the SUPER comprehensive break down of your day for surgery. I actually got teary eyed. This allays my fears a lot. The uncertainty of knowing but not knowing? I know mine may be different but reading in your words sure does help! HUGS to you. and TYTYTYTYTYTY!!! -
How did your family and friends react?
SimoneMonet replied to Queenbee34's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
So wow, I told my Dad last week I was having the surgery - now he's just so awkward. But I'm hoping it's just him. He had called tonight (which btw, is very unusual since we've primarily communicated via email for the last 10 years). I think it was his way of being supportive. I asked how things were going...and he said "Well, me and your mother are both stuffed. She just made this amazing pot of gumbo." Then all I heard was gurgling. He was choking from embarrassment b/c he had somehow talked about FOOD and I guess he thinks that's now off limits...he got so flustered he accidentally hung up the phone. Ten seconds later he calls back and said he just wanted to call and wish me and my husband Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays..! So that was fun...LOL. Oy!!!!!! : \ And THIS is why I have told so few ppl. I probably can handle the conversations - it's the PPL AROUND ME that cannot! -

I get lots of those as well. And those plastic lawn chairs. I just stand up when visiting ppl and family with those. : \ Yes, and feeling the pain of sitting in those too small chairs. I made the mistake, too, of sitting in the emergency exit on the plane. THOSE seats do NOT have any give. The sides are made that way for structure. I was in serious pain for a 4 hour flight.
