    Being wasteful.......

I bought lots of 10 calorie jellies (or do you call them jello?) to eat during the immediate post op phase, but I've got loads left over, because I'm finding them unbearably sweet. I didn't initially believe what was said about tastes changing post op, but that has actually been my experience. I'm even finding grapes a little too sweet. I take a flavoured protein shake to work for lunch, but that's just for convenience and to get enough protein down my neck. I don't really enjoy the flavour. The rest of the time I eat proper food. I can even manage a tiny portion of steak now! 😃

    Hair Loss

I started spraying Biotin under my tongue 2 days after the surgery and I haven't lost any hair yet...but I'm only 3 months out. Fingers, toes - everything - crossed!😃
  3. I'm in the UK, and none of us sleevers over here seem to be given specific targets for fluid intake. I was just told to keep on sipping regularly throughout the day and to just always have a bottle of water by me. I did as I was told and haven't been dehydrated yet. I haven't weighed or measured anything, yet I've lost 66lbs since June 30th. I'm not sure that fixating on the numbers helps...but I accept that it might help people who appreciate very specific guidance.

    Non-food rewards

Because I shall have to be spending money on clothes later, I try to find rewards that don't cost too much, like a weekend camping, or ten pin bowling or crazy golf.

    Family eating your food!

Mrs Woo is sadly an ex-cat: she has gone to meet her maker. But she was a peachy little fur baby who had the power to make me instantly happy - as does the memory of her!

    Family eating your food!

Phase 1 - while he's not wearing them. If Phase 1 doesn't work, progress to - Phase 2 - while he is.

    Family eating your food!

We ate mostly healthy food before I had the surgery, so we both eat the same stuff now - only I'm eating tiny portions. The biggest change I've made to my diet has been cutting out wine and a couple of chocolate bars a week. (I think I had a wine belly!) I don't buy any radically different food and I'm still losing about 4 lbs a week, so I don't feel the need to have any food in the fridge that's just for me. But if I did have specific 'me' food in the fridge and he habitually ate it, I think I might accidentally cut all the toes out of his socks.
  10. This is my scale of pain... endometriosis 9/10 slipped disc 8/10 hysterectomy 8/10 kidney stones 6/10 gastric sleeve 2/10 I had some discomfort, but it was gone within 2 weeks. Stick with it - you'll be fine!

Pain when I twist or bend

It's probably best not to twist or bend too much then... It'll wear off - I hope you feel better soon.

    Waste Food

I think that if I don't eat everything on my plate, it'll go in the rubbish bin. So if I do eat it, I'm treating myself like a rubbish bin...and that's what made me fat.

    Dating how to's?

I've met blokes through dating sites. I've dated blokes I met while out socialising with friends. But the ones I liked the best were ones I met through a hobby. The main focus wasn't flirting - it was chatting about our interests - so we weren't putting on a front. I met my current partner on an astronomy weekend.
  14. This reminds me of going to Canada and seeing all the "A fed bear is a dead bear" signs. Well, I never saw a single bear, but the mosquitos nearly ate me alive! 😨 Where were all the 'Beware the mosquito" signs? Similarly, the surgery seems like the painful part, but it's not really. The sign should read "Beware the wind and constipation!" And even that wears off after a bit. ☺ Keep your chin up. After a bit of a struggle, you'll give birth to a beautiful baby new you - totally worth it!

    Suggestions for Pre-Op

I started dieting about 3 weeks before surgery and I decided to keep it simple. I did 3 things every day: 1. Cut out the booze. 2. Eat off a side plate. 3. Replace 1 meal a day with a protein drink. It got me used to life post-op and I lost about 20lbs.
  16. Ha! Hysterical! Have you considered drawing a face on it, squishing it up and making it say terrible things to other people??!

For all who need a kick up the butt!

I took it literally because there didn't seem to be anything metaphorical about it. Don't mind me - I'm just being facetious! But I do agree with you - if you don't like an article, pass on and ignore it, because someone else might find it useful. I was jut putting an alternative point of view.

For all who need a kick up the butt!

I can't comment on the insurance aspect in the article. In the UK, fewer people have insurance. You either wait a long time to have the surgery with the National Health Service or pay to go private. However, I have split feelings about the content and tone of the article. I agree that we have to take responsibility for our health and not expect someone to wave a magic wand over us. If people pander to our weaknesses, they do us no good. But getting a 'kick up the butt' doesn't motivate everyone - it can make them feel oppressed or even rebellious. Concerned but firm encouragement can work just as well. But I accept that some people may find the disciplinarian approach motivating.

    Non Scale Victories

Thank you! I'm quite proud of myself! (even though it did take me an hour and 20 minutes). I'm hopeless at weight-bearing exercise, so I have to be good at something.

    Non Scale Victories

I managed to swim 2000m today (that's 80 lengths). The last time I swam that far I was 15! (Mind you, it took me a lot longer to do it this time than when I was a teenager!).

    Non Scale Victories

I went on holiday to Whitby last week and climbed the 199 steps up to Whitby Abbey without breaking a sweat! These are the same steps that Dracula was supposed to have run up (as a dog) when his schooner was shipwrecked at Whitby rocks - but I promise I didn't howl or suck anyone's blood! I walked 8 and a half miles that day and did have some treats over the week, but I still lost 4 lbs.
  22. I was very anxious when I had my first abdominal surgery, but it went fine. My second abdominal surgery...fine. Third...fine. Fourth...fine. Fifth...ditto! I'm still alive! Chin up, chuck!

    Why is water painful?

Maybe your oesophagus was grazed when the bougie was inserted down your throat? That's what my surgeon said to me shortly after my operation, when it hurt me to swallow.

    Non Scale Victories

You look lovely! I'm 50 and started at a similar weight to you. I'm only 2 months out - you give me hope!
