    Backhanded compliments

Is this person that important to you? Don't give his comment a second's thought - I bet he's not thinking twice about it. And if he's sarcastic with you again, tell him he's mistaking you for someone who gives a damn.
  2. You can't make him lose weight - he's got to want that for himself - so if I were you, I wouldn't try to push healthy eating onto him. But you don't have to put up with jealousy and bad-mouthing. It doesn't matter if it's due to you losing weight or his bi-polar disorder. You could choose to ignore it, if you are desperate to stay with him. In your shoes, I think I'd leave, even if I loved him. Some kinds of love chip away at your identity and it comes down to 'him or me'.
  3. It's just two weeks - it'll pass soon enough. Bite the bullet and stick to it - it'll make your liver pliable and your surgery safer.

    Fear of being thin

Be brave and jump in! If you do what you've always done, you'll get what you've always got. And only you know if that's made you happy!

    How often to snack???

I just eat when I'm hungry. Sometimes that's 3 times a day, sometimes it's 6 or 7. I only eat small amounts, so it seems to work out OK. And because I eat when I need to, I don't feel deprived. The only thing I'm strict about its alcohol - I only drink it when it's an occasion with friends. I think wine was what piled on the pounds in the past, so I'm not going down that road again! Some people are really strict about food too, but you have to find out what's sustainable for you. If you're really very strict about food for a few months and then fall off the waggon because you feel deprived, then you won't keep off the weight. I have the occasional treat, but make sure I still lose a pound or two a week. I think I'll be able to sustain that in the long term. There won't be a single right answer - I think you've just got to experiment to find out what works for you.

    SCARS from Incisions

I have an 8 inch scar from an op 10 years ago. I used Bio Oil and the scar got a bit lighter, but it's still clearly visible. But frankly, who's to say that wouldn't have happened naturally any way? I've had 5 abdominal ops in total...I tend to think that all the scars tell an interesting story. And I could always join them up and make a copy of the Mona Lisa...
  7. I'm really pleased you found out what it was that you lacked! I'm 51 and I agree that hormones do rule your life in hidden ways. My life was made very difficult by an excess of oestrogen years ago, when I had endometriosis, and only a hysterectomy could fix it. Because I was young, I was put on HRT and I did very well on it, but I had to stop taking it before I had the sleeve, because of the increased risk of blood clots during and just after surgery. I'm managing OK without it now, so I haven't bothered to start taking it again. But when I first started taking HRT, it made such a big difference to me - and I'm glad it's working for you too. It must feel really good for you not having to struggle against your own body to lose the weight now.
  8. I saw a very, very obese lady on a mobility scooter struggling up a steep hill. It looked like the scooter wasn't going to make it - and what would she do if it broke down? I just thought - I'll end up like that if I don't do something now. It's weird how such a little thing made the decision for me. Not my partner's heart attack, not my worsening health, not my doctor's warnings - but a physical representation of what my future would be. Scary!

    Tea and Weight Loss

Good strong, black tea and a bit of milk. Preferably Yorkshire Gold tea. As a Brit, I know it's the answer to all problems! Well, nearly....

    Smooth Sailing for Anyone?

Easy-peasy for me. Bit of constipation, but nothing else. Prunes are my new best friend.
  11. My meals are so small, they're what I used to consider to be snacks! I have one, two or three snacks a day, depending on whether I'm properly hungry or not. I've never been told how many meals to eat, or how many calories to consume and no one has ever mentioned proportions of macros to me. I've just been told to eat healthy food slowly in small quantities, prioritising protein first. And lay off the booze! 😲🙂 I've lost 91 lbs so far doing that. If it stops working, I'll change it.
  12. My surgeon just told me to lose weight beforehand to shrink my liver - he didn't mind how I did it. I cut out refined carbs and alcohol, but ate normal food. It worked just fine.

    Drinking alcohol again????

I have no problem with bubbles in any form. All the more Prosecco for us, eh?

    Drinking alcohol again????

Am I the only sleever who gets on well with bubbles? They don't really bother me at all (although I choose not to drink fizzy pop now, because of the calories). I've cut wine out on an every day basis, but if it's a special occasion, I'll have some Prosecco or a nice red.

    50 and Up Sleevers

I had a gastric sleeve on 30th June this year. I lost about 14 lbs before the surgery, but I'm still very pleased with the rate of weight loss since. I put a pound back on over the Christmas holiday, but I've lost it again plus another pound. I lose about a pound a week now, and that's fine by me!

    50 and Up Sleevers

I've lost 87 lbs as of today, which puts me in 'Onederland' for the first time in about twenty years!

    Need Advice for My Family

Why not direct your mum to this site, so she can see how many people are well after the surgery and how they have benefitted?
  18. Would it really be hazardous for the OP to wear a tampon during the procedure? It's not like it's a long operation and your stomach is nowhere near your vagina. (Look away if you're easily grossed out...but as you're reading a thread about periods, I'm assuming you're not...) I had my uterus removed whilst I had a mirena coil fitted, and there was no problem with that. I checked with the staff beforehand, so they knew. I would have thought that situation was more potentially hazardous than wearing a tampon whilst having stomach surgery.
  19. 4 lbs is still a loss! If you lost 4 lbs a month for the next 6 months, that would be 24 lbs...not to be sniffed at!

    2019

I don't do goals - they bring out the rebel in me! Actually, I'd quite like to get my conservatory roof insulated, but that's probably not what you meant! 🙂
  21. I had dizziness for some days after surgery, but it passed - don't worry. Once I got onto sloppy solids, it stopped altogether.
  22. I don't have a single regret about being sleeved (even though I had to borrow money to pay for it!) Its worked. I feel better. And I think I deserve success.
  23. Well, we're all going to die eventually. We've reduced our risk of early death by tackling our obesity. But I suppose we could cut our risk further by rarely eating meat, not ever drinking alcohol, being celibate, not driving, not living in cities, not experiencing stress, not ever being poor, not crossing roads...you get what I mean I'm sorry - I know I'm being a bit silly and facetious - and I don't want to be disrespectful when you are making a valid point. I suppose the point I'm trying to make is that it's sensible to reduce big risks - like smoking or being very obese - but if we try to cut out minor risks too, we could just end up being miserable. 🙂

I Was Amazed When I Heard This

I eat steak every week - a bit cut off the end of my partner's. It's great for iron, great for protein, great for taste - what's not to love? As with anything, it's only a problem if you have too much!

    One month stall

That's just the way it is. I only lost 4 lbs last month, but I've lost 3 lbs this week. I can't explain it by means of a change in diet or exercise. Irregularity seems to be par for the course. If I were you, I'd relax and have faith in the process - you've lost shed-loads of weight since July - it seems to be working very nicely for you! 🙂
