    Sleeping

Gosh - I feel quite guilty - I could sleep on my side from day 1! My other half says that I no longer snore when I roll onto my back now - how fantastic is that?!
  2. Why would you be eating weird food? I'm not. I'm eating a normal balanced diet in small portions. Go ahead with the op and look after yourself. She'll either be pleased for you when she sees how much healthier you are, or she won't. The onus is on her to sort her head out while you sort your body out.
  3. I've had 5 lots of abdominal surgery...this one was the easiest recovery (because I wasn't actually ill to begin with).
  4. I used to get it regularly, but its eased off now. Maybe yours will too!

    Constipation

I've said it before and I'll say it again - prunes, prunes and more prunes! 😉😊

    Regain

Intermittent fasting might do the trick.

Once you're on sloppy solids, tuna mashed up with mayonnaise packs a lot of protein and slips down nicely.

    Refrain from strenuous sex?

Don't let it put you off Brian - think of all the fun you can have devising new and gentle ways of handling your special time with Madame Palm and her Five Lovely Daughters! 😉😁
  9. What a milestone - good for you!

    Loose skin dilemma

You've put whoopy on the back burner because of this? Nooooo! It's your basic human right! If you are afraid to get your kit off in case your amore judges you negatively, then replace him/her with someone less shallow. If you are afraid to get your kit off in case you judge yourself negatively, you can always do what my Other Half suggested to me (when I was feeling similarly sensitive): - "Stop looking in the mirror so much." 😮 I know that sounds glib and insensitive, but that's what it boils down to. I took his advice, and my floppy bits don't bother me so much any more. 🙂

    Could i smoke after 1 month ?

I really have sympathy for you: this kind of addiction can't be beaten just by motivational platitudes. Initially giving up smoking is not the hard part - you have to decide to give up every day for years and years - that's the hard part. Finding alternative activities is helpful, but some day you will fall down and smoke again. Having a plan for when you fall off the wagon is the key. I suppose some people could say that that is just planning for failure, but I disagree. It's just planning for the day that your human weaknesses get the better of you. Everyone here has those days. You're giving up two addictions at once and that's harder than giving up one(!) Having re-read this, I realise that I sound quite strident. I don't mean to be disrespectful of anyone who has given helpful or genuinely-meant advice.
  12. Thanks for the reply. I just had an ultrasound scan and gallstones were visible on it. My GP appointment isn't until 16th January, but as I'm not in any pain at the moment, that's OK. I will ask about bile salts when I see her!
  13. Well I had my scan today (told you it was a long wait - but at least it was free!). Apparently, I have several small gallstones. I've been told to make an appointment with my GP and discuss what to do. As I've only had 5 attacks of severe pain in the last 17 months, I'm thinking I might just grin and bear it, especially as I've heard that having your gallbladder out can alter the way you digest fat and cause the trots in the long term. Has anyone here done that? Or, has anyone had the op and not experienced any digestive issues after it? Thanks in advance for any replies!
  14. Well I've put 2 lbs on over Christmas, but I enjoyed eating all the special treats - in small portions! I don't mind though - I know how to get it off again. Think I'll do a bit of intermittent fasting in the new year!

    Full Feeling Sign

A burp or a hiccup...or just feeling like I want to burp.
  17. My heart goes out to you. I experienced exactly the same as you with endo/painkillers/constipation. I tried everything to ease it. In the end, it was a combination of Dulcoease, prunes, lots of water and suppositories that made it bearable (though it was never easy). Ultimately, I had a hysterectomy because I had Stage 4 endo and 3 lots of surgery didn't fix it for me. However, I know 2 other women who had endo and did conceive. It was a struggle, but they succeeded in the end. Fingers crossed for you.

    Weight Standstill

I do weigh myself every day. Sometimes I stall, sometimes I lose weight, sometimes I put on a pound. But over the months, the overall trend has been downwards. If you're doing the right thing, it will come off.

    Non Scale Victories

I actually sat on my OH's lap at the bowling alley, without crushing him and without sliding off! We were both so chuffed, he jiggled me about and we engaged in a bit of comedy-canoodling.....at which point, I heard a small voice in the next lane saying "Look mum! It's Miss H____ from school!" Typical, eh?! 😲😀

    Those last 14 lbs....

Somebody on this forum recommended using Smart BMI as a more realistic calculation (especially if you're not a spring chicken like me!). https://www.smartbmicalculator.com/ According to this, my weight is acceptable for my age and height - yours might be too!
  21. I have no fixed opinion about this issue - I'm just interested to hear other people's views and approaches. I've got to the point where my BMI is about 27/28ish and I've lost oodles of weight. I've only lost a pound in the last 7 weeks or so, but I have lost inches, so I'm not too worried. However, I think my weight loss is beginning to 'bottom out'. Ideally, I should lose another 14-20lbs, and to this end, I was thinking of using a ketogenic diet for a few weeks. However, I've had some conversations with medical types about it recently (a retired doctor who's a friend, a bariatric nurse and the nurse at the local GP's surgery). They all said slightly different things, but the common threads of what they said were: If reaching the BMI-25-target is important to you, then by all means try! The final pounds of weight loss are difficult and - because of the type of severe restrictions needed to get there - are not often sustainable. The differences in health benefits between a BMI of 27ish and 25 are negligible. Ketogenic diets are not really recommended long-term for bariatric patients. I might still lose more weight using a balanced diet (with small portions) and although it would take longer, it would be more sustainable. From my own point of view, I had stopped thinking about food so often and I felt that this diminished importance of food in my mind was good for my mental health. There's a risk that if I go back to a diet with 'forbidden foods', I may start thinking about it too much again (which - for me - would be counter-productive). However, I know that some of you guys have achieved (and surpassed) that magical BMI of 25. How did you do it? Did you have to adopt a different strategy for the last few pounds, or did you just keep on plugging with the good habits you had learnt? As I said, I'm not here to pre-judge; different things work for different people...I'm just interested in hearing about a range of strategies that work.
  22. Went to the doc's today...she reckons I might have gallstones, so is referring me for a scan...so I wasn't barking up entirely the wrong tree.
  23. tuna mashed up in low fat mayo...yum yum yum yum yum! 🙂
  24. Thanks for the replies guys. I haven't been in agony like you've described, so maybe it's not serious. I'll see the doc anyway though. 🙂

    Sleeve Tips for the journey

I'd like to add to the list.... 27. Budget for replacement clothes...it will cost you £££££s (or for most people here - $$$$) and you will probably need to do it after 6 month, after 12 months....blah blah blah...
