    January surgeries?!

I got sleeved on Tuesday and am down 9 pounds. I can tell that I'm a little swollen, though...I keep telling myself to put the scale away for a week or so until the swelling goes down, but I can't bend over well enough to pick it up 😂

    January surgeries?!

I'm tired, but I think part of it is that I don't have anything to do but watch TV. I can't really leave the house with the blizzard outside, so sitting around is making me more tired than I am.

    Swallowing Pills

I didn't get gastric bypass (sleeved), but I was taking pills immediately after surgery in the hospital. My pain med is also a pill, as is my acid med they gave me. It's a little more difficult, but it's not too bad.

    January surgeries?!

Yeah! I had one shake—not going to be able to meet the goal of three, but it's progress!

    January surgeries?!

Ladies, make sure to wear a sports bra post-op! I wore one all yesterday and took it off before bed and never put it back on. The lack of support was adding pressure to core, making me more sore throughout today. I put it back on a few minutes ago and already feel much better.

    Surgery on the 15th

I brought a lot of stuff, but this is what I actually used: Phone Chapstick Loose sweatpants I think that's it! I brought other things that I thought I would use and never did. I wish that I had brought some dry mouth spray, but I didn't have time to go to the store before surgery to get it. It's also a good idea to bring a pillow or blanket to hold against your stomach on the drive home. I used a blanket from my hospital room—it was easier to hold it against my stomach than a pillow. You won't need as much stuff as you think. Good luck!
  7. I didn't have to share a room, but I know that on my floor that there were patients who had different types of surgeries, not just bariatric. After surgery they were assigning rooms out by who was ready to leave recovery, so if anyone on my floor was sharing, I don't think they were sharing based on their surgery.

    January surgeries?!

That's great! I was a little nervous the day of surgery, but all of the nurses, doctors, and the anesthesiologist I talked to before surgery were so great that they put me at ease. Your day will be here before you know it!

    So confused by my vitamins!!!

I've been told to split my multi w/ iron up for better absorption, as well as to never take the multi w/ iron with calcium citrate because it would cause issues with absorption.

    January 2019 Sleevers! Questions!!!

Congrats on surgery! I had surgery on Tuesday and can't wait to be at the point you are where liquids are that easy. Right now I can't only do about 30 ounces. From what I'm told, once your tummy has healed some you don't feel much restriction on liquids, so I think that what you're experiencing is normal. You probably won't feel the restriction you're thinking of until you move on to foods. I've read about others who have said that they have spots on their bodies that feel numb now and they received the same explanation that you did about how you were strapped to the bed. For constipation, my doctor recommends a dulcolax suppository and 2 tbs of milk of magnesia.

    When does it stop!

It really is. My family keeps telling me to drink more and it's so annoying...obviously if I could drink more, I would!

    When does it stop!

Oh definitely not. I tried to have a protein shake today, but it was taking me so long that I switched back to water. I'd rather go without protein than get dehydrated. So far today I've only got in 25 ounces.

    When does it stop!

I had surgery on Tuesday and the soreness is the worst! Hopefully it'll get better for us soon! I have percocet, but honestly, I'm not sure how much it's helping—seems like it just makes me sleepy.

    January surgeries?!

I start taking a multivitamin and calcium citrate about a week post-op.

    Surgery tomorrow!!!

I'm on proton for the next 3 months for potential reflux. I also bought a pillow backrest so I can sit up a little higher in bed, because I've heard that helps. I was so tired that I didn't even try a protein shake yesterday. I'm going to try today, though. I did try Powerade Zero yesterday and it was waaaaay too sweet. I even tried mixing it with water and it still was overly sweet.

Anyone else's surgeon say no preop diet?

Pre-op diets vary surgeon to surgeon. My surgeon has two pre-op diets, determined by BMI: BMI below 50 is 2 meals, 2 protein shakes and BMI above 50 is just protein shakes.

    No regrets?

I just had surgery yesterday and for a slight second I thought, "Maybe I don't need VSG." But I knew that was nerves talking, so I quickly dismissed it. I have a million reasons why I know this was the right decision for me. Even as I sit on the couch in discomfort, I still have no regrets. I hope that your family gets on board soon—and if they don't, remember that you have everyone here and also check with your hospital to see if they hold WLS support groups, as many do.

    January surgeries?!

It's no problem! It's totally normal to have questions, I don't mind at all. I never asked about GasX, but I'm sure I would be allowed. I have heard though, that for some it doesn't work for this type of gas. Most of the gas from my stomach is finally gone, but there is a little bit still left in there. And thank you! I hope that after surgery you have a smooth recovery, as well!

    January surgeries?!

I have to walk 5x/day for 5-10 minutes at a time. And yeah, drinking is so hard right now. I've been sleeping so much that it honestly hasn't been a priority—I've just been focused on water because I don't want to get dehydrated. Hopefully the anesthesia will have worn off more tomorrow and I won't be sleeping as much so that I can in more water and protein.

    January surgeries?!

Yes, I've been walking around whenever possible—I actually just sat down from doing laps around the house. It's definitely easier to walk today than it was yesterday. I was told that if I can't get up and walk around to do leg raises, but so far, walking hasn't been an issue. I also have been having someone help me up when I walk so I can put as little pressure on my core as possible.

    January surgeries?!

Hey all, wanted to give an update on my surgery. When I got to the hospital, they first had me pee in a cup to make sure I wasn't pregnant. After that I got taken to a room where they asked me family history questions, etc. They also started an IV. I met with the anesthesioloist and he told me about the plan for surgery and asked if I had any questions. He also offered me some meds that would make me relax, which I gladly accepted. After that I was wheeled to the OR. I don't remember anything after that—the next thing I remember was waking up in a recovery bed. My stomach was sooo full of gas and I was super uncomfortable, but I wasn't allowed to walk around yet. Eventually, they let me walk a little bit because I had to go to the bathroom. After that they took me to my room—I don't remember much about that. I slept a lotttttt. My stomach was still in some pain, but it wasn't terrible. Throughout the night several people checked on me and took my vitals. After midnight I was able to have water, which was great because my mouth was hella dry. This morning, I walked some and it was much easier than it was before. Today my stomach is sore, but it's more of discomfort than pain. I'm home and have absolutely no appetite. I'm sipping on water to keep me hydrated, but haven't started on protein shakes yet.

    January surgeries?!

That's kind of how I feel, too. I'm kind of nervous, but more than anything I just want to be post-op.

    January surgeries?!

Thanks, Johnny! You're right. I'm nervous, but very excited for this change. It's hard at first, but you can do it! It gets easier. I'm on the last day and pretty much have no appetite. Today I'm supposed to drink 2 bottles of Isopure, but I haven't even made it through 1.
