I had a fantastic experience with Mexicali Bariatric Centre . They were so excellent in their service and the hospital was top notch. I wrote about it if you want to review you can view my activity log or look in the Mexico forum

    Appetite back with a vengance!

You all need to go read my story first on my page before commenting further. Then you will realise that I have undergone major transformation in terms of my eating habits and my sugar levels. These BG levels are FABULOUS compared to what I was. I had insulin resistance diabetic neuropathy high blood pressure and venous issues in both legs PCOS endometriosis and perimenopause and hormones that are so out of whack that they wanted to put me on more drugs to only make me more medicated. My insulin intake is more than 50% LESS than what I was on. Not only do I not have high blood pressure but its normal to low. I am SO HAPPY for these milestones in merely under two months! Awesome Now if we can just get the hunger pangs under control as my immediate need.

I cant eat meat yet !!! The protein I am getting right now is from PROTEIN POWDER and I get 90 grams EVERY DAY. I use crystal light pure, a vitamin pack and protein powder in my water every single day but unable to get to 65 ounces a day yet. For Christmas sake I could not even drink that BEFORE surgery. That will take TIME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I cant eat eggs! I am getting frustrated with this thread too. I said that I ate the stuff left around the house from my parents visit and that was here pre surgery during the last 2 days. Sheesh...…….I said I am fighting hunger pangs and NOT emotional eating. I am not craving any food in particular I just feel HUNGER. I know the difference between trigger foods and emotional eating. Here is my dinner. Blended chicken with spinach, pumpkin and peas. Well, the later end of it. This is the kind of thing that I have eaten for the last 2 weeks but with different variations I have taken an acid reducer omeprazole as was suggested that acid can mimic hunger and hopefully this will help. I have not had acid or heartburn but who knows what is going on in that tiny pouch so i'll start using it in the morning every day again and pray it works wonders

@FancyChristine15 Are you tracking what you eat? - yes. that is why I know I am eating too many calories. But I make home made soups and I don't know how to really track those calories accurately Are you getting in at least 64 ounces of Water? - no. I cant drink plain water, makes me feel sick. So I am up to about 50 oz of liquid intake now Are you eating/drinking at least 60-80 grams of protein every day? - yes. I have 90 grams of protein in protein powders in my daily drink and some additional protein via food Are you exercising? - My post op info says no exercise until after 4 weeks. so I am week 5 now. My treadmill is broken and I have someone coming to look at it tomorrow. I live WAY out in the country side and it is not safe to walk. If the treadmill cant be fixed, I will have to walk up and down the drive way and do YouTube exercise videos. Are you taking your supplements? - yes. I have tons! Right now I take daily multi V, vitamin B and calcium. I will add Biotin at 2 months for hair loss and I take iron once a week. I have supplement patches and pills, liquids too. I bought a whole bunch to bring home to Barbados with me enough for 6 months People I KNOW what you are supposed to eat. I studied this surgery for a year. But practically I am struggling with the fact that I am one of those people whose hunger was never diminished. I am not an idiot. I think I keep saying that the surgery is not the easy ticket out. I am expressing disappointment however that the anticipation I had from the research I did concerning a significant decrease in hunger has not been my experience from the surgery. And yes, I was sincerely hoping and had that expectation that at LEAST I would not be feeling hunger the way I used to pre surgery and quite frankly I have had ZERO change in that regard

Ash I CELEBRATE when I wake up and I am 12. For years I woke up and I was 17-22. And I am 12 with half the insulin I used to take. Type II is a bit different to type 1. Type 1 is far more severe. I would much prefer to be higher than lower and to me 12 is not extreme. When I loose more weight the hope is that I will be OFF INSULIN all together. My aim is to stay alive until then and not fall into a coma while I sleep LOL 12 is fine for now but I can increase my long acting during the day time to try to keep it tighter during the day

That is IDEAL. But I start to feel so freaking HUNGRY and when I go like that for a long time, that is when I binge because I feel too hungry

    Appetite back with a vengance!

yes. We use the UK readings. You can convert my readings on an online conversion calculator. 70-80 would be me going hypoglycemic! that is 4-5 and I start to get the shakes and bonkers at 5 http://www.endmemo.com/medical/unitconvert/Glucose.php

I would test before Breakfast and 1 hour after dinner. You want to take advantage of what little info you are able to gain. What is your typical fasting blood glucose level? Those are exactly the times that I test. Post surgery my BS is about 12 for fasting. I purposely do not take a lot of insulin at night because I live alone and if I go hypo there is no one here to help me get glucose or shake out of it if I am sleeping. I am happy with 8-10 for fasting levels right now I was a completely out of control diabetic. I only started to reign it in about 4 months ago when I had my ah ha moment. In my out of control days I was regularly at 26-31 at night and fasting levels of 18-23. Crazy numbers

There are two weight loss clinics in Barbados. They are less expensive than Strong Hope but are expensive as well. You have to buy a 'package' of treatments. And guess what? I went through one of the programs in 2016. I lost 45 lbs and gained back 55 lbs Its self discipline. Thinking the VSG was going to magically take away my hunger was a wrong concept. There is no way around old fashioned discipline and self denial. you cannot have what you want and think you are not going to pay the consequences of it when it comes to food.

    Appetite back with a vengance!

thanks @Matt Z it is a gorgeous place and I have heard about it. Its also extremely expensive Its a boutique treatment venue targeted for persons overseas to come to beautiful Barbados to recover. So they are looking for the clients with the US and UK Dollars if you know what I mean. I am in the process of looking for a job - I have been out of work for 2 years now following my mother's death and having to deal with her affairs etc. I felt like my weight was impeding me from getting hired for jobs which is one of the reasons I did the surgery

How are the May sleevers doing?

Are you on an antacid? I’ve read that acid mimics hunger feelings. I was on a prescription one for first 30 days, now dr has me taking Zantac 150 two times a day for at least another month. I have not had any issues with acid reflux or heartburn so no, I stopped taking them after weeks 2. But you know what, thanks for the suggestion. I will try using them again to see if that helps. Thanks for suggesting it

I used to take the rapid acting in the morning before breakfast and at night before dinner. The long acting was the morning and 12 hours later in the evening. Sadly, I cannot be testing throughout the whole day because the testing strips are very expensive and I use the cheaper ones too, a brand from China called Sky Era. In an ideal situation I would be testing more. You are referring to doing a curve and I have not done one in a long time. Do you use a pump? Barbados has one of the highest rates of diabetes in the WORLD per capita. Our government provides health care up to a point. Can you imagine that diabetics are dispensed only 10 needles for the whole month? They have to be reused. And the strips are only enough to be tested twice a day. No wonder we have so many amputees.

How are the May sleevers doing?

I'm doing terrible I have an appetite that has come back heavy. I have gained 2 lbs. I am hungry all the time...……… how is it that people say they have no appetite and have to be reminded to eat!!! I only wish that that was me

    Appetite back with a vengance!

Also, its possible your diabetes would be better controlled if you did cut out the carbs. A lot of what you mentioned in your diet is carb based. If you aren't using appropriate insulin to counteract the carbs, then you'll never get it in control. That is true. Remember I ate what was left around the house and from when my parents were here with me but they have returned to Canada now. I really don't know how much insulin to take based on a new restricted diet. I used to take 70 units of long acting and 50 units of rapid acting in the morning and at night when I was close to 300 lbs. Now I am taking 35 units of long acting in the morning and 20 units of rapid acting at night (so I don't go hypo when I sleep) But I am reaching between 15-18 in my glucose readings by the time I take the rapid acting at night. So today I took 40 units of long acting to see if that works better

I really wish that I could eat eggs because I LOVED eggs before the surgery. I have tried 3 times and its VERY painful to eat the eggs. My body wont tolerate them, at least right now. They feel as though they get stuck in my throat and chest. I have also tried just egg white and same thing. I am hoping maybe in about 4 weeks that I can try them again because I really do love eggs

    Appetite back with a vengance!

and I have eaten and drunk at the same time too. What is your take on smoothies? That is what I am having for lunch today. A smoothie with a banana, 1/2 a beet, 4 strawberry's and protein powder, 1/2 cup of almond milk. Hoping this will make me feel FULL so that I don't snack until this afternoon what is the purpose of the VSG and major stomach reduction if it does not eliminate most of your hunger? I have been self diagnosing as a diabetic for 10 years. I have been one for 15 years. It is $100 each consultation at a doctor and I certainly cannot afford that. Every single member of my mother's side of the family is a diabetic. 3 have died because of it. This is why I did the surgery so I would not be the 4th

    Appetite back with a vengance!

you are right - not supposed to eat whole meats yet. That is why I blend them into my soups. my surgery was done in Mexico and I live in Barbados. So I don't have a NUT or a surgeon here. Thanks for your encouragement. this is not as easy as I thought it would be. I have never really succeeded in WL so I am sure fear of failure plays into it and likely self sabotage. I have to find a way to get over my disappointment in the lack of curb of appetite and hunger. I feel misled and lied to about the information regarding decreased hunger. Oh well - somehow have to get over it because it is a LOT of money to waste and I did not even pay for it so I feel an even greater burden that I have to overcome since it was a family member who saw me heading down the same early death as my mother who intervened for me. I am convinced I was not ready for this surgery mentally to deal with what happens when hunger comes back but its too late to cry about it now

    Appetite back with a vengance!

I find it laughable when people say the hunger is not real. I know the difference between emotional eating, binge eating and comfort eating. I feel very hungry I am not sure if its hormonal or connected to the diabetes. I should not be this hungry even though my glucose levels are not fully controlled they are not as bad as they used to be. I am concerned that if I increase my insulin shots that I may get hypoglycemic so I have been conservative with the amount I take I eat greek yogurt. I hate cottage cheese. I do eat string cheese. I really hate refried beans. I eat nuts/almonds for protein as well. high in calories but not in carbs. These were items that were left in the house prior to surgery that I ate. does not mean I will buy more to replace them

I have appetite suppressant pills which I am going to have to start taking...….again...……..what is the point of this surgery. Sigh

    Appetite back with a vengance!

Clearly...…….I will not be successful at this. Clearly, I was not ready...………..clearly $6000k down the drain...…. 2 lbs gained and its no wonder I am so starving hungry which has always been the problem. From day one out of the surgery I was hungry. I am so disappointed that all that I read about hunger being cut back so much because 80% of your stomach being removed has not been the case I will never be able to maintain 800 calories a day with this hunger I can eat all the crap I listed but yet my body rejects eating whole meat. I can only eat meat if its put in a blender.....….go figure. I get all my protein quota via the protein powders which I put in my drink but that has not stemmed hunger

    2 weeks post op... help!

Try these. They are all natural and you put a patch behind your ear. They really worked for me https://www.amazon.com/MQ®-Motion-Sickness-Patch-Count/dp/B00RHJKGE2/ref=sr_1_3_a_it?ie=UTF8&qid=1530764966&sr=8-3&keywords=anti+nausea+patch&dpID=51Ehc1ciaCL&preST=_SY300_QL70_&dpSrc=srch I also bought this inhaler but I never needed it because the patches worked so well. Chemo patients use it when they feel like gagging. Might as well give it a go https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00V3N42H0/ref=sxr_rr_xsim_1_a_it?pf_rd_m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&pf_rd_p=4518303533042278392&pd_rd_wg=etSgi&pf_rd_r=7SYK4G1S2RRXZC6DTXN9&pf_rd_s=desktop-rhs-carousels&pf_rd_t=301&pd_rd_i=B00V3N42H0&pd_rd_w=F07pA&pf_rd_i=anti+nausea+patch&pd_rd_r=089ea21b-14e2-4d3e-a8a3-e20b8c748788&ie=UTF8&qid=1530765038&sr=1

    Wondering about calories

Didn't you receive a nutrition outline of the various eating phases after surgery? If not just google it online - there is tons of information for guidelines of nutrition and calories in the phases post surgery. 800 calories is fine 3 weeks post op. you are doing good especially if you are already working out every day. if you are working out and burning 300 calories in your work out that means you are 500 calories a day. I would not be worried at this point. The guideline is 500-800 3 weeks out and when you get to the soft foods and after that its 600-900 calories. But remember that you should factor in the calories you burn from your workouts for your real daily caloric in take.
