Watch it closely because I had a little reddness around my sites they looked good all the first week and first visit and about two weeks out a scabbed formed and THEN I started getting an infection SO watch it closely and wash with dial soap on your sites. Hello I am a newbie with my band seminar was on march 13th the doctor meet with us indivually in exam rooms after the seminar.I had my pscy consult done and sleep apnea test completed before first visit.Then I had to meet with physical thearpy and a dietician to go over the pre surgery diet and after surgery diet. Then we had one last doctor visit in April 26 to go over anything and to make sure you have not gained a whole lot of weight cause your not suppose to gain any. surgery was done on May 5th I stayed one night went home the next afternoon,gas x strips and a small pillow and of course walking all over the entire hospital to move that gas were my bff's. My doctor is Scott Robbins of Dothan Alabama, he;s a newbie to. but he is great. CONGRATS ON SURGERY, you'll be fine. Sheemac:thumbup:

hello First question is how long has it been since your lst fill?? maybe if it's only been a short time to do like the full liquid diet with purred meats. But if has been a while I would definitely call your doctor cause it may be to tight. I'm a newbie but have several close friends that have had these problems and what the doc did. FRom the doctor visit last week said it was probably just cellulitis have been on high dose abt for one week and it is no better. the pain has increased, band is to new for erosion to happen but thank you for your reply and concern. I am scared what the next step may be for me tomorrow when he see it again. Sheemac:thumbdown::sad:

Yes everybody has those last min question but most of us that have this surgery or obese or morbidly obese so we have tryed to eat better andto exercise and to be better, but hunger or emotions or just plain hard of trying sent us back to our old ways. So this is a tool and makes us accountable and responsible for or actions. Trust me I had the last minute jetters to. I found this site like 10 days before surgery because of my fears. Good Luck and take a leap of faith plus the guys seem to loose the weight faster so you one of the luck ones. Just go for it. Sheemac :cursing:

Hey I had kinda the same question, I noticed today I could eat a little more than I thought I should be able to, I know if you drink while you eat it just pushes it through to the rest of your stomach so yeah you can eat more. My question would be I know we all saw the dietician/nutrsionist but should we be following a high Protein,kinda lob carb,lots of veggie kinda diet that what i thought but it still all so new. Help. With the fill you are suppose to fill like you did right after surgery. So good luck on your fill but that same sensation will come back after the fill when the swelling goes down, that's why we keep going back. Wish you well, all we can do is try. sheemac:thumbup:

I have no idea about your insurance but bc/bs of ala has the same kinda guidelines and several of my friends that are approved for surgery now gained the last little bit to push them over, yet they could prove in medical records they had been that weight before sometime in their life. Yeah if they unfill the band you can eat more but not as much as before but WHY my doctor said to me before he banded me, This is a tool not a magic band and if you come to me wanting it removed or unfilled we are gonna sit down and have a long talk because you didn't come to this decision easily to get banded. i WAS BANDED ON THE 5TH OF MAY AND EVERYTHING WAS GOING GOOD UNTILL SUNDAY 2 OF MY STERI-STRIPS CAME OFF, HAD A LITTLE SCAB NO WORRIES BUT BY TUESDAY HOT TO TOUCH AND DRAINING SOME WENT TO THE DOCTOR THEY PLACED ME ON ABT'S AND I HAVE AN APPT IN THE AM NOT ONLY IS MY PORT SITE INFECTED BUT SO IS MY INSERTION SITE FOR THE BAND, YEAH..WISH ME WELL, GOOD LUCK TO YALL HOPE TO HEAR FROM YA SOON.:thumbup::blushing: THANKS SHEEMAC

I bruised really bad on the left side were everthing was placed. And I am still very sore and was banded on May 5th. Tylenol and Motrin usually do it but if I over do it I have to go back to it.(pain meds)but not often though.My 5th day out I started eating cottage-cheese, yogurt, and sf pudding, applesauce per my surgeon. cause on the 7th day he put us on regular food. Protein first. Shoulder pain and upper chest pain usually means gas, so take the gas x and walk walk walk. And it will get alot better. I'm worried about going back to work. My co-workers had to be told I work at the hospital. But with family that has been very critical I am not telling. Its like when you go out to eat or go home to visit and you eat different when your on a new diet, and they shrug and give a slim smile and wish you luck and then it fails and they asked what happened, Banded a week ago and dad and sis with my husband and in-laws know. I don;t want to loose just 10lbs this next month and everyone thinking that I didn't do right or that I've messed it up. And have to hear about it when they won't take the time to educate thereself. I just had the lap band procedure and tricare prime paid for it so the va insurance may pay for it but may want him to go to a va hospital that provides it. Good Luck:rolleyes2:

You won't be able to take much in after so you need the protein, there are only 3 approved shakes 2 are optifast and only one slim fast. You have to have the protein to heal and regain your strength. day one post op had 3 ozs of protein shake tonight for dinner and was full. Good Luck.

Banded yesterday went in to surgery around 830 surgery took longer than usually surgeon had a time getting the band in place but did have a little larger scar for band site and extra carbon, after post op back in room at 1pm up to do upper gi at 3pm and then shortly after walking the halls to get that gas moving, lost iv site around 7pm, liquid lortab not so bad. had to sit up and sleep most of the night. Up early shower and meds walked most of the day around hospital surgeon stuck in surgery discharged later than I thought. Just sips of liquids very full sensation the most taken in was 3oz of protein shake with some meds. Scared over, now I gotta get to work with my new tool for life. Thanks for all the responces yall been great.

My surgery is at 830 tomorrow 5/5/08, scared and happy all at the same time. Clear liquids for the past 2 days, and a prep tonight. Good luck to you, maybe we will talk on the other side one day. :unsure:Shee

I have not be banded yet but it is scheduled for the 5th of may, my two weeks of post-op includes slimfast Protein shakes, not any variety that specific one, so I believe you did alright. Just stick to the liquids untill he say mushy foods. I always say if I could be on a liquid diet I won't be phat in the first place.lol..Can't wait to be in your shoes, scared a few times this week but am better since I found this site. Shee:thumbup:

My doctor told me that the carbonation will strech the small pouch back out.

hello, Every body. I don't think the bean burrito hurt. The liquid diet or even like my doctor put me on a low carb diet not as strict as like atkins. That what I was wondering yesterday cause they have said nothing about any amount of days in liquids. Yes it all about shrinking the liver because they have to raise your liver up to get to the neck of your stomach and if it is to larger it will flopp down. As for having drinks with your wife, liqour is natural just have one or two mix with diet soda, I was told no beer do to the carbs and not to have them everyday. Love this site. I am going to Dr.Robbins In Dothan Alabama. I live about 20mins from there, I'll have to stay over night. But your right I think the liquid diet really sounds much better before so you won't have problems after words especially with gas. Thanks for the reply. I have researched both and I also am a nurse. I myself do not and have never wanted the bypass surgery, my own personal belief. I know people that have done well and people that have done not so well. I was in the process of a packet to be approved for my insurance when I was approved. I 1st attened a seminar in Albany,Ga by Dr Bagnato and would have like for him to do my band but he does not take my insurance. I am in Dothan Alabama and Dr. Scott Robbins will be doing my band. He is new to the lap band but has been doing bypasses for years and has a excellent record. I hope I have all the power that I need to go through with this. Like I said I have no problem following a diet and or doing the work, I am just getting scared. So I looked this site up for some emotional support.
