I had 3 Irish coffees and nothing happened
Screwballski replied to apositivelife4me's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You’re reading an awful lot into some very simple questions. I posted what I posted so that apositivelife4me could think about the “whys”. Any judgement or ridicule is projected by you and not intended by me. I wrote that it was rhetorical because the answers are not my business or in any way related to my path. I meant absolutely no harm nor did I wish to engage anything other than some introspective thought. You read negativity where none was intended. I don’t own your frame of reference. -
Tips on breaking the sugar addiction
Screwballski replied to AdiosAnnie300's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
AdiosAnnie300, there are some of us who are sugar addicts just like others are crack addicts, heroin addicts and alcoholics. We just can’t. When people say, “Just have a bite,” I want to say, “Would you hand an alcoholic a glass of wine and say, Just have a sip?” But it seems so benign to others. And I get that. It’s playing with fire to us. ;) -
Please keep us updated. Certainly they won’t send you home if you can’t hydrate!

Some questions about eating in the future
Screwballski replied to Jpsl1028's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
We’re pretty much on the same page. Sugar is my devil, too! Once it enters my body, it owns me. I’ve been in Type 2 remission for 5 years now. It can be done! I don’t worry about fat though. Low-fat just means more sugar and/or additives/preservatives. Not for me. To answer the original poster’s question, we all have different strengths and weaknesses. We have to take command of them. I could have a few bites of cheesesteak, no prob, but not with bread on it! That would cause an epic sugar spiral! Cake is out of the question for me! Might as well hand an alcoholic a bottle of Jack! -
Chewable tylenol safe?
Screwballski replied to EsoKev's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I take all kinds of non-liquid pills and capsules (big and small) with my surgeons permission). According to my surgeon, the pills they DON’T want us swallowing are the heavily coated time release/extended release and/or super dense time/extended release pills. Mostly because they won’t be absorbed and they may be corrosive. Other than that, if it’s not harmful to the stomach, and you can swallow it, you’re good. I have 6 medications on top of supplements, of which I have an additional 7. All of these are swallowed in pill or capsule form. None liquid. Everything per surgeon. He did, however, prescribe that awful Tylenol w/codeine after surgery. No thanks! Obviously, check with your Doctor before taking meds. I’m just relating my info. -

I chew everything to purée. Absolutely nothing has been a problem. As a former owner of a lap band from Hell, it’s just the way I chew food. -
What is the weirdest thing you have experienced POST OP?
Screwballski replied to eso0402's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was out at the tanning salon (incisions covered) and running normal errands by day 4 post-op. No surgical pain from the moment I woke up in recovery. Only needed pain meds because surgical positioning tweaked an old back injury. Oh, gosh...just realized that sounded like I was trying to one-up you. Not my intention! -

Vitamin Patches and your experience
Screwballski replied to moondoggie1983's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I use Calcium Patches because chewable Calcium makes me heave. @Matt Z is the Vitamin Patch guru. There are other threads where he explains all. I’d use all of them right now if I didn’t have a few months of capsules stocked up. Plus I just ordered some Tespo pods to try out. -

If you need to get more protein in you can do a chicken bone broth instead of regular broth. It’s not so yummy (salty...yuck...too much flavor for me) but has lots of protein, is thin like broth, can be made warm and doesn’t get bogged down like shakes. I was also allowed thinned cream of wheat or rice in the first two weeks. My surgeon had same diet for sleeve and bypass. Best wishes. -

Screwballski replied to apositivelife4me's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I just wonder why? At 3 months out, why would you dump extra, empty calories in your body and take the risk of hurting your progress and healing body? (It’s rhetorical.) -
I am incredibly boring and a terrible example because I do not care about food. I never really have. My “being fat” thing was always about hiding my body, not about “loving food”. So I’m boring: BREAKFAST...Shake It Pea Protein shake in morning with Juice Plus Orchard, Vineyard and Vegetable capsules emptied in it for added nutrition, LUNCH...1.5 -2 ounces chicken, pork or ground beef DINNER...same as lunch SNACK...1 egg or 1 tablespoon creamy peanut butter (never both in one day) or 1/4 avocado EVERYDAY...2-3 sugar free popsicles If I need more protein, I grab more meat or shake.

Concerns about calorie intake
Screwballski replied to OneYearLater's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
You’re worrying about hunger you’re not feeling! ;) Enjoy where you are and do what works to get where you want to be. When you live one or two steps ahead inventing what ifs based on others peoples experiences, you aren’t free to enjoy the moment. Best wishes! -

Losing my eyebrows?!?!!
Screwballski replied to madscientistmommy's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I got my eyebrows microbladed months ago for no other reason than it’s the most fabulous game changer ever! No more doing the brows! Just have to keep the area around the microblading tidy! The Bomb!!! -

When I started the process at 209 I thought if I got back to 160-165 it would be fab! I’m 5’ 5.5”. That’s a size 10/12 for me. When I got to 160 I realized I’d like to go down another 15-20. My doctor thinks I’ll actually go lighter and have to fight back up because I am not able to get enough calories in yet. But that’s not the worst problem to have. I’ve been there before. I can do it again. 🙂👍

I am a little over 5 weeks out. When I was revised from Band to Sleeve my BMI was 30 and I weighed 180. I’m now at 160 (my original goal). I’m going for 140 now. The surgery was a breeze. No surgical pain. The only reason I needed any pain meds was due to an old back injury getting jostled from surgical positioning. Other than that I was fine. Up an walking as soon as I was steady after recovery. Had a morning surgery on May 17th. Was home walking around by noon May 18th. Tanning (with a towel over belly) and running errands with hubby by 20th! I’m so happy!
