How are the May sleevers doing?

I’m losing pounds so slooooowly but my body seems to be shifting around nicely and I’m dropping sizes so...not really complaining. I’m now at 23 pounds down from my May 17th surgery. My BMI is 3 pounds away from no longer being overweight. Meanwhile, in the last week my husband has had a minor heart attack requiring a stent followed by an aneurysm at the sight of the cardiac catheter. I’ve still managed to take care of the both of us, and stay on track food-wise.   He’s finally home and doing well. 🙂 This sleeve makes dealing with life so much easier in so many ways for me.

    Doctors office error

I was 5’7” my whole life , as far as I knew. Hadn’t been measured in years. Was measured by my primary a couple years ago. Now I’m 5’ 5.5”. It happens. :) 🤷‍♀️😁
  3. I’m so glad it worked! It was a defining moment in my recovery. Everything became easier! 👍🏻

    Meeting Goals Earlier than Expected?!

I met my goal at 1 month but I am a revision and had very little to lose...we knew that would happen. I’ll likely get a bit too low before I can fit in enough good calories to maintain a good stable weight. I refuse to eat garbage just to get calories in. Everything was in place ahead of surgery.

    4 days post vsg

The very best advice is the same thing that drove me crazy in the first couple of weeks... Stay hydrated! And walk (I had that one down). :) Best wishes for a speedy recovery!

First two weeks post op weight loss

I weighed 180 when I went into surgery and 187.5 the day I came home!!! Two months later I’m at 158. I say I’ve lost 22 pounds in 2 months because I don’t count that fluid/swelling gain but on days when I feel like I’m not making progress inlet my brain tell me I’ve lost almost 30 lbs since surgery! ;)

    Surgical Glue.....

I found that trimming off the loose edges made a world of difference! Cut down on the itching and pulling.

    Tespo Vitamin Machine

Turns out, if I take the three doses spaced throughout the day after I have a bit of food in my stomach, I don’t have trouble. Sticking with them until the pods are finished then making a decision.

    Help/Advice Please.

My lap band surgery was almost 12 years ago. It was nearly pain free. I was playing with my then 8 year old on the floor within a day or so. But, I always bounce back right away from all of my surgeries. I’m not a great benchmark. I’m very, very fortunate. My band was not over bypass. Just straight-up lap band on regular stomach. I actually just got it removed and was revised to a sleeve in May. I wish you the very best. Please consider seeing the local surgeon you didn’t choose, the one who worked with you before. I think they will be more concerned with making sure you are okay than some lost business. And update here. I’m concerned about your pain level.

    Help/Advice Please.

I’m guessing the big one under your ribs is the port. That’s exactly where mine was and exactly the size. If so, you will forget all about it in no time (unless someone jabs you, you run into something, etc.). If that’s not your port, I have no clue!

    Tespo Vitamin Machine

I’ve tried them two days in a row. Each day they have caused me terrible nausea. I took them with food the first day but had nausea and diarrhea. Today, I mixed them in my shake but wound up with such awful nausea I needed Zofran, CBD oil and a 4 hour nap! They may not be for me. :(
  14. I meant to quote May Z who had a less conservative plan. The new thinking is to get folks on puréed food fairly quickly.
  15. Do your Clear Liquids include Protein drinks/shakes? I ask because mine did and I continued using whey based drinks just as I’d used( with no problems) for years prior to surgery. AFTER SURGERY, these very same whey Protein Drinks gave me extreme diarrhea! Neither my surgeon nor my primary made the connection. They tested me for every bug and parasite, for CDiff, for everything. It wasn’t until someone here told me to switch to Pea protein that it stopped. (Any plant, rice, etc. protein will do.)

    Catheter During Surgery?

I was not supposed to have one and my surgeon was very upset when he found out they did it after surgery contrary to his instructions. It was an error...I didn’t care one way or another. I got up and walked with it right away. Removal was no biggie. Been there several times before. It’s over in a few seconds. I wasn’t awake when they put it in so no harm done there either.
  17. Look at it this way, the percentage is fairly proportional across the board.I’m 5’ 5.5”I was sleeved on 5/17 at 180 lbs.Today I weigh 159.  That doesn’t sound like a lot of loss when you compare it to the amount some of the heavier folks lose in 7 weeks but I’m only 19 pounds from goal weight now.

Need advice and encouragement not ripped apart

Everyone has given you very good advice. You sound motivated to get back on track. It sounds like you slipped through the cracks, information-wise, and you are trying to turn it around. It was very brave to reach out. I wish you the very best.

    Coming up with a blank

BTW, they didn't care if the protein powder was flavored or unflavored. They just said unflavored so that folks could flavor it with crystal light or something if they wanted. I'm a literal person so I called about EVERYTHING until they were, like, "For Heaven's sake, leave us alone!"

    Coming up with a blank

I don't know if this will help or if you'll even be able to read these, but here are photos of the stages of eating I got from my office. My surgeon and nutritionist are considered very conservative and use the same plan for sleeve and bypass patients. I am not endorsing anyone's use of this material. Just posting them for you to see.

    Post Op diet...keto?

Here’s where I break from the pack. I was essentially raised Atlins/KETO. (My mom just didn’t know what it was called.). Margarine was a “fad”. Low-fat, non-fat products were a “fad”. We didn’t eat those. Never had a weight problem. (Mine manifested in my 30’s). The only manner in which I deviate from my prescribed eating program is that I refuse to use low-fat products. Now, 7 weeks post surgery, I’m not going back to KETO right away but I’m building my fats toward that end and my primary is on board. It’s not a fad, it’s yet another lifestyle. It’s not for everyone. However, some folks thrive.
