  1. I know what you are going through. I had to wait almost 9 weeks. It was difficult. I just put it in my head that this was my healing time and tried to eat sensibly. The fills will come soon enough...I would find out how much your doc is going to put in the first fill. I have heard of some people getting really small fills for the first one and that would be a bummer after having such a long healing time. My doc put in 3.5 cc's, which he says is his standard for all of his patients. I have heard of some only getting 1 cc on the first, so I would check...hang in there...good things come to those who wait! :biggrin2:

  2. My doc started to give me 3.6cc's and then we did the swallow test. I couldn't swallow all of it, it sat there on the back of my throat, so my doc took out 1 cc. It was weird, after he took out the 1 cc, it instantly went down. So, I have 3.5 cc's. Next appt. is last week of Sept. He said 3.6cc's is the standard amount he gives everyone on their 1st fill...but as we know, everyone is different.

  3. I've lost 17 pounds since the day of my surgery. My clothes are fitting better, my skin looks better...and I haven't had a Diet Coke since the day before my surgery (June 3rd). I really don't miss it, but I do sometimes want different things to drink besides water...iced tea is filling that void right now. My first fill is August 7th. I need to get serious about exercising, but I'm not. My doctor says that I need to do something "vigorous" like swimming, running, biking, or hiking. I usually like to walk for exercise but my doctor seems to think I need to be doing something "more vigorous". I know I need to just get off my a** and do it...:)

  4. bread is my troublesome food. I have twice now gotten bread from a sandwich stuck to where it would not go down.:wink2: It was not fun at all. I think my problem on both occasions was the fact that I had waited too long to eat and was VERY hungry. I was "gobbling" the sandwich down and the first few bites got stuck. Boy, did I pay for it. I have to remember to eat slowly and take my time.

  5. To you Jazzy Junes that have yet to be banded...I thought I'd give you my 2 cents about my experience. My surgery sounds a lot like everyone elses. Today it has been 10 days, and I'm really feeling a lot like myself again. The only thing that is sore is my port site, and it does have that yellow colored bruising around it like some others have talked about. I've lost around 10 pounds so far.

I have to tell you that on the 4th day after surgery, I made myself get up and start doing things like watering plants, light house cleaning, etc. Laying around a lot I think, can be a detriment. I felt a lot better when I started moving and getting around. I've taken a couple of walks that have just exhausted me...but that's ok;I know it's good for me. My appetite is coming back slowly, but it seems like it is a lot different than before.

The psycological part is something to deal with also. It is like saying goodbye to an old friend or hobby. Sometimes I think the food ads on tv look good, but then I think about if I would really want it, and I don't! I'm thinking that this is an opportune time to really change the way I see food. Not as a reward, hobby, project, or something to do when I'm bored...but as nutrition for my body. It is time to find some other things to do besides eat! The thought of this is difficult for me, but I will succeed!

If anyone tells you that this surgery isn't a big deal, they're wrong. It really is a life changing event. Good luck, Jazzy Junes...I'll be thinking of you!

  6. So, I was banded on the 3rd, and am feeling much better. Had a couple of rough days... exhaustion, soreness, etc...but am now on the road to being 100%. I am trying to find some liquids that will satisfy me. I tried Carnation Instant Breakfast (with Splenda) and I love it. Have one around each meal time, and drink sips of Water and fruit juice in between; as well as a sugar free popsicle once a day. I really don't feel any really bad hunger yet.

Does anyone else out there have any other suggestions for good tasing liquid ideas? I have seen that some others here are already able to eat real food on their liquid diet phase...unfortunately, my doctor didn't say I could do that, so...liquids for 2 weeks for me. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!:incazzato:

  7. My MIL is a piece of work, too. To my face she's all nice and watches what she says, but I just know that she is closet anti-fat (she is VERY SKINNY) and I'm pretty sure that she has been asking my husband what I'm going to do about my weight problem behind my back. I DID NOT want her to know about my LB surgery, but he just confessed to telling her 2 weeks ago to "defend" me. I'm very glad that he's supportive, but I smell a rat!

  8. My doctor's office called today and moved my surgery from the 6th to the 3rd, only 1 week away! I'm ready!

I went ahead and moved my name on the list below...

  9. Hi everyone...I'm from Kansas City, Missouri. I have 2 wonderful kids, and a great husband. I work in the HIM department for one the largest hospital systems in the midwest.

It took me a long time to step out of denial and realize that I am just getting bigger and bigger and that I've got to do something or I will not be able to have a productive life at all. I am so tired of being tired. I want to have energy and feel like a woman again.

I can't wait to get this process started...good luck to all of us!!

  10. I have told my husband (of course), my sister (she had gastric bypass in'99), my 11 yr old son, my mother and grandmother, and my step mother-in-law. Also, I have a dear friend that had LB surgery in 2006..she knows. These are the people that I am closest to that I can trust with such a personal thing. I will not be telling my mother-in-law (she's VERY skinny) because she is very critical and judgemental of overweight people...she suggested Weight Watchers for me when I was pregnant.:)

I'm sure it will all come out to her some day, but for now I just don't want her to know.

  11. So glad to be a part of the June group. Waiting for my surgery date took longer than my insurance approval !!

  12. I know how you feel when you said that you thought it was going to be a big headache...I thought I was in for a fight to get an approval and it only took 3 days. You are so right when you said when things are meant to be, they just fall into place. Good luck to you and happy approval!!!:coolgleamA:

  13. I'm so crazy over 80s music that I have many 80s artists' CDs in my car as we speak...Van Halen 1984, Duran Duran (best of), Hall and Oats(best of), Tears for Fears (remember 'everybody wants to rule the world'?),Def Leppard (The Vault)...I feel like my parents when I was growing up when they listened to the olden goldies station with all the 50s and 60s music that I HATED...:wink2:
