    Tough Love.....

Here’s some tough love for you. You have so little to be proud in your life you wear a-hole as a badge of honour. Your world is so small and you are so meaningless within it that you come on a support group to put people down. You are irrelevant in this world and it burns you up inside. Your only way of connecting with people, which you are so desperate to do, is by putting people down. I hope you get the help you need.

  2. Sorry you’re feeling down. I’ve had times of feeling the same and more than one argument with family since getting the sleeve a week ago, so don’t feel alone. You’re feelings are all valid, of course you miss your cat and are sad. Crying is allowed. And you’re not acting like a third grader. You’re acting like someone who has gone through something pretty big, is adjusting to a new life, is missing home and a beloved pet. Big hugs to you.

  3. The book basically debuncts decades of research that has told us that "less calories in and more calories out (exercising)" means weight loss. Dr Fung basically says that obesity is directly related to our bodies insulin, or insulin resistance.

Firstly thanks for sharing your story! I’m a fan of Dr Fung, he has great YouTube videos that just make so much sense, check them out if you haven’t. Best of luck to you!

Def me. I did well the first month losing about a pound a day. Then nothing, then gained 2. After a week I lost the 2, but nothing since. I asked for advice on another thread and it was suggested that i increase my caloric intake, which I am struggling to do without adding a ton of carbs.

Sent from my SM-G955U using BariatricPal mobile app

Can I ask what the rationale for increasing calorie intake is?

  5. Hey! I had my sleeve 24 May and joined the forum just before that. It’s an amazing forum with wonderful, welcoming and wise people. You’ll feel at home here really fast :)

  6. My endocrinologist who I see for PCOS recommended 12 months of weight stability. The reasoning behind this is that when you drop a lot of weight the body has evolved to think that there has been a reason such as drought or other disaster leading to a food shortage. This then impacts the baby not through the form of birth defects but impacts on long term metabolic outcomes because the child ‘thinks’ it’s being born into a environment with not enough food. I haven’t looked into this myself because it sounded logical and she talk about a lot of research!

Hurray for that! Sorry for all the people in the Burn Zone but every so glad this member of the fantastic Down Under gals is still safe.☁and ☔and a quiet Tuesday evening for you!
Frustr8, I feel you are the guardian angel of this forum! You are so thoughtful, kind and encouraging! So many good wishes from me to you.

  8. I’ve only told close family. For me I couldn’t think of a good enough reason to tell colleagues. Will they help me in achieving my goals? Not likely. Do I value their opinions on health issues? Nope. Do they need to know? Absolutely not. Will it make it hard to work with them if they say something offensive? Absolutely. I like to keep things simple, so I kept work out of it.

Call tomorrow if it still worries me and get in with my surgeon. I now have large itchy bumps at the top the steristrips on two of the incisions. I am headed to PCP, now. Thanks for your help

"I had bloods done before but they were thinking insulin resistance. Then my bloods went all over the place in hospital!"

That's odd that they sent you home with insulin. Prior to my surgery I was pre-diabetic (insulin resistance). In the hospital, my sugar levels were all over the map. But, the hospital I was at, called the endocrinologist I have been seeing for two years. He decision was not only, no insulin, but I was to stop taking my Metformin. My levels will be checked at my PC's office and the post surgery follow up, two weeks post-op. I agree with the others here that you should follow your doctors advice and diet, and I think once your body get's used to this new diet your levles should calm down.

Exactly what happened to me with bloods in the hospital. The nurses went crazy and the endocrinologist had them checking my blood sugars every 6 hours. They send in another doctor to take blood from my artery as opposed to the vien to do other tests. Fingers crossed I’ll be off the insulin soon!

Hope all goes well for you! The diabetes wasn't tested for before surgery as part of the assessment for surgery?

Glad you're headed home:) The diabetes could resolve with your new diet. Follow all your instructions and try not to be overwhelmed...you're on the right track and things should get better before long. Wishing you a quick recovery and great results:)

Thanks so much, just what I needed to hear :)

  13. Had my sleeve done two days ago. Finished up two nights in hospital and have been discharged. Learnt that I have diabetes and being sent home with insulin. Lots to take in and get my head around.

I can drink quite a bit of Water but still feel so thirsty with a dry mouth. Looking forward to seeing what the coming days and weeks bring.

I’m a month out and trying to figure out how to pack foods on my list versus trying to find something in the cafeteria at work. Let alone I usually eat at my desk while working/conf calls what not. Taking a daily lunch is just not an option for me.

I do better when I pack my own lunch. It’s a habit I’m trying to get in (most days at least). When I can walk extra during the day by either taking stairs, taking the long way to a meeting room etc. I also have my Water bottle with me when ever I leave my desk. I try to drink a good portion during a meeting say 10 ozs over an hour meeting...
Love the sneaky extra exercise! Thanks for sharing, I feel like you described a bit chunk of my life!
