I’m 46 and was sleeved on May 28. I have more energy with just 48 pounds lost so I can’t wait to see what I will feel like when I’m down more. I get frustrated sometimes that it isn’t faster weight loss. I wish I would have done it years ago.
  2. Thanks

I’m 42 was sleeved the end of May this year, so I’m right at 12 weeks out and down 60 pounds as of this morning. Parts have been difficult but no regrets. Think I did the surgery at the right time in order for me to be successful... If I would have done it sooner I’m not sure I would have been as committed

Just turned 40 in June. I'm having surgery in about 10 days and it is finally hitting me!
My old doctor proposed weight loss surgery wayyyy back in 2011. I'm sort of thankful I didn't do it then because it was the band and just sitting in the waiting room for a consult and having everyone discuss their adjustments made me uncomfortable. Also the surgeon seemed hurried, like he was running an assembly line, so I bolted.
Ideally I would have had surgery about 3 years ago when I was not in-between jobs, but it took me a lot mentally to get here, breaking out of my delusion that my yo-yoing was not real, that years were passing by and that it would happen without surgery tomorrow.
I'm also interested to hear what others in their 40s think.

I was sleeved May 15 and I just passed the 40 pound mark. I'm exercising 5 days per week and closely counting calories and Protein. No more blood pressure medication. I am constantly hungry, though, and that has been hard.

I was sleeved May 15th. Down 41 pounds today. I went through a very long stall that started around week 4-5 and i got discouraged and started to slip back into my old habits of bad food choices. But after gaining 1/2 a pound i decided to get back to a strict diet. Premier Protein drink Breakfast and lunch, high Protein Snacks, healthy dinner & Vitamins. I started losing again!
Always having healthy snacks available really help me stay on track, my favorites are pacific gold beef Jerky from costco (they come in little bags) and sargento balanced breaks (cheese, nuts, dried fruit) & crystal light drink packets!
Haven't really exercised yet, we've had the biggest heat wave and we don't have a/c so i sweat enough!

I was sleeved on May 16th and have lost 31 pounds since my surgery. My surgeon said that he likes to see a weight loss of 8 to 10 pounds a month. I think we are all doing great!

I did something very similar. I have not told anyone but my husband and best friend. I have been very public about my meal planning and doing modified Keto. I post my weight loss milestones. No needs to know that I had surgery to give me a better tool. I know some people would say I took the easy way out. I told my work I needed to have. Minor surgery for a reoccurring medical condition. For all they know it was to fix a Hemmeroid.

Tracy I can certainly understand how this can be very annoying when you have people giving you unsolicited advice and comments. As someone who has been obese most of my life, I have out up with so much "diet advice " without even asking for it. I had a sleeve done July last year and went down from 233 to now 156lbs. The only person who knows I heard it done is my husband. I didn't want to deal with ignorant comments from people. When people ask me how I lost the weight I just tell them I took charge of my health which is true, I quickly shut down those conversations because I don't owe anybody an explanation. Keep pressing with your goals and take charge of your health. You already on track. Best wishes with your surgery.

@adiosannie300 while this may sound harsh people who truly care about you will be supportive. I have run into people who seem very upset by the fact I will no longer eat sweets, breads or drink alcohol.. it bothered me for a bit but when I thought about it.. they are just upset with themselves that they have not made the changes in their lives and I will not sabotage myself for anyone. True friends will support you on your endeavors and encourage you to do the right thing! I hope we all have more of those types :)

It’s so true. When you politely decline dessert or other food item people get very defensive. I have had people say that I’m obsessed about my diet and that I am not fun. Turning down alcohol gets the same reaction as turning down cake and ice cream.

AdiosAnnie300, there are some of us who are sugar addicts just like others are crack addicts, heroin addicts and alcoholics.
    We just can’t.
When people say, “Just have a bite,” I want to say, “Would you hand an alcoholic a glass of wine and say, Just have a sip?”
But it seems so benign to others. And I get that. It’s playing with fire to us. ;)

Ugh! Sugar addiction is the worst! I have struggled SO MUCH with this! Prior to surgery, for about a year I had made a "No desserts" policy for myself. (with the exception of a piece of pumpkin pie at Thanksgiving!) I just could NOT eat sweets and Desserts in any sort of normal way. Everyone's solution is different. I have started to have very small servings of dessert the past 2-3 weeks. I have had a few bites of ice cream mainly. I discovered how horrible cake made me feel! Oy! I had half of a wafer of one side of an Oreo thin (not the inside stuff). One day I had a few M and M's. I dunno...I'm thinking about whether I should continue to stick to my no sweets policy (or re-commit at this point!) or if I should see if I can do sweets in moderation post surgery.

I would be curious about what is behind eating more than your probably should...Are you hungry? Is it emotional eating? Are you craving certain foods? Whatever the problem, I would try to find a different solution. Hunger, in my experience, has usually meant I need to get more Protein or Water. Emotional eating means I need to use different tools other than food to help me with whatevr uncomfortable emotion I'm having. Usually I can distract myself from cravings. Your answers will be unique to you, but feel free to brainstorm here if that's helpful! I came to this forum for help about eating too much when eating out. SO MUCH experience with everyone here. It's really helpful, and I hope you are able to figure out this challenge, acuttita.

The best way to get through the week 3 stall, is to get to week 4.
The numbers can be sporadic . Its going to take you 9 to 15 months to get near your end goal. If you start driving yourself crazy at week 3 its gonna be a bumpy road.

Youll have weeks where you lose 0-1 pound and then lose 5 the next. Its just the way it works, as long as youre trending in the right direction and not doing stupid things to sabotage yourself, youll get to where youre going

I am coming up on completing 3 weeks post op. I have lost 14 pounds since surgery. My biggest drop was week one and it has slowed to a stop this week. I have not increased my calories. I really don't want to be that 1 pound a week person when I was hoping for 3-4.

Nope. You didn’t ruin a thing.
I have a super conservative Doctor. I wasn’t supposed to begin chewing food until June 20th (sleeved 5/17) but had to go out of town June 14. I packed shakes to meet all Protein goals but it has been so hectic, I’ve had to use food after the 40g protein morning shake. I’m chewing to purée. Eating 1-2 oz (cannot get more than that in at one time) of only highest/best protein option and getting my supplements in. My Doctors says if my stomach is happy then everything is fabulous!!!! I feel awesome. Still never hungry. But the body needs great nutrition to look and feel great!

I had my surgery on May 28 with Dr. Lisa Pompa. She was very nice and my stay at the center was very nice. However, since release I have not heard from anyone. I thought staff would reach out to see if I was healing properly or having complications. They sent me home with a meal plan for 2 weeks but no other guidance for the next stages. I’m starting week 3 post op and relying on forums to know what to do. Sadly they all are a little different. Is this normal to not hear from your surgeon or staff following VSG?

I am exactly where you are. Every time I eat 4 oz of puréed food without issue I think. “Oh no this isn’t working for me”. I had my surgery May 28 and I have lost only 12 pounds since surgery day. I’m trying to stay positive and make smart choices. It’s 12 more pounds than I lost last year!
