Being that I work on a bariatric surgery unit I have watched the surgeries for both banding and RNY but never had a clue what was entailed for a fill. I mean I knew what they did but really thought it was a little more involved. Was way too cool to watch. Dr C. Thanks for the educational experience. Just cant wait to be banded and layin there having my own fill.

AnnieM, There are several hospitals in dayton that do the Bariatric surgery, banding included in all but the old St E. Hospital. Good Sam , Miami Valley, Kettering and the old St Elizabeth Hospital all do them as well as Middletown Regional. Shay did you call and set up an appt with that Dr that Dr C. suggested?

personal question, surgery in 2 days!
NurseTeresa replied to CareBear's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
If you are constipated then I would try and use a stool softner or laxative to get rid of extra stool prior to surgery. You need to be comfortable and constipation creates increased discomfort to you belly, back and sometimes chest. You will want to go into surgery not constipated as the change in your diet post op can create either more constipation or possibly diarrhea. Some patients it doesnt touch at all. Good luck with your issue. -
You should be able to go to Dr Curry and he should be able to do all paperwork needed and send your family Dr a letter telling her what he is going to do for you. I live about 45-50 minutes from Cincinnati and have a fantastic Family Dr who is very supportive of my decision to be banded. Money is just the obsticle. If you want to know his name let me know. I will gladly give it to you.

Hi , I am getting banded in 12 days!
NurseTeresa replied to Oregondaisy's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Congratulations to all of you. Denise, yes most people do lose some of their hair after surgery. It is due to the stress to your body of surgery and also lack of Protein and the results of anesthesiology. This happens from most surgeries not just bariatric ones. Just be sure to keep your protein intake up as much as possilbe to prevent losing any extra. Best wishes with your surgery. Don't let the hair loss get to you. It will grow back. -
This looks like a good place to settle in...
NurseTeresa replied to AmyKPonyperson's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Amy.........Congratulations on taking steps to being banded. I like alot of those that have already posted am not banded yet. It will happen one day! Just think of the exercise you can get riding and also swimming in your new pool. If you ever have any questions this is the place to ask. I also am always open for questions. I work on a bariatric unit and have attended special training for my banding patients. -
Sweethot, Get up and walk. Sometimes the gas pains trap in your upper chest sometimes feels like a heart attack or bad indegestion. It honesty does work. Pain meds might ease it a little also. But really walking and changing positions help. Try to sleep with your head slightly elevated. I am not banded yet but I do work on a surgery floor with banded and rny patients. I can tell you this helps them at the hospital and this is what we tell them if they call us once they are home. Hope this helps! Congratulations on your banding.

Surgery 12/20/06! Does anyone have advice on the liquid multivitamin?
NurseTeresa replied to kaboom 13's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Even though I am not banded yet, I do work with fresh post op banded patients. We recommend a chewable vitamin. Being a nurse I have had to give liquid vitamins...most people cant get past the smell then when they taste it.....it is very nasty. Even those with a tube feeding complain about the smell. -
Sure there is always someone out here. Hope that your having a fantastic weekend Dr. C.

Have you thought of finding a new family Dr.? One that is sympathetic with you health issues and would want the best for you. Did you ask her why she doesnt want you to do this? There are alot of Drs. out there that have no clue what a lapband is. Maybe you should educate her in the procedure and why it is so important to you. Then if she still doesnt give a hoot I would look into possibly finding a new family dr that will support and help you with this entire procedure. There is a Dr. C. That posts on here all the time. Maybe you could send him an email or call his office. He is in cincinnati and his staff might be able to assist you on what to do. I am sure that you are not the first one to have this problem. He is a very nice man and will address any email you send him very promptly. I know he did me. This is the man I am going to have band me when I can get my finances together. He has done the most surgeries in the area. Have heard nothing but good about him. Being a nurse has helped me find some things out about him from my nurse friends in cincinnati. Just a thought. If you ever want to talk feel free to send me a message. Good luck with it all!

Debbie It is an exclusion to our insurance so it doesnt matter about all my wonderful list of comorbidities. They refuse period. But thanks anyways. I went to the one with the drs at GSH and to one of their support groups. That is it for seminars. who are the Doctors for Premier Bariatrics? My credit sucks and I dont own a house so I am on a wing and a prayer at this point in time. Turner24 is MRH Middletown? Thanks for all the information and well wishes. Keep up the fantastic work with your bands.

Just wanted to say hi to everyone in the dayton area. I havent been on here posting much at all lately due to health issues and work. So glad that there is fineally some from this area that have been banded. I work at Good Sam and take care of the patients post op. Unfortunately our insurance doesnt cover this procedure for us. How crazy is that. To be a banding hospital(mvh, gsh) and not offer it to your employees. Just curious if any of you were self pay and if you would let me know what you have paid or at least a ball park figure. Have considered trying to save the money and go to mexico if it comes down to it.(maybe rob a bank will be quicker). Have heard great things about Dr Curry in cincinnati and have not heard of any of the other drs any of you mentioned from dayton area. I do know that Dr Martin does banding and know him as a regular bariatric surgeon and gen surgeon. He has done some RNY on friends of mine and had regular patients that I have taken care of. Our hospital has a dr sidiqqui or something like that he is in with dr cleary. Please let me know any pluses or minues with the drs you have been to. Thanks again!

All I have to say is thank you from those of us that are not able to be financed for one reason or another. Please let me know what the requirements are as soon as things are worked out. Thank you very much for all your generous help you are willing to give to someone who needs it. There are people on other sites as well as this one that are trying to find help to pay for thier surgeries. Not even wanting someone to pay for it for them just trying to find someone to finanace it even.

Well CONGRATULATIONS AND TAKE IT ONE DAY AT A TIME! No one said you have to rush into anything. Go slow and feel things out. Don't let your guard down completely however don't have a wall so high that no one will ever be able to penetrate it. There are some good men out there. I have had all the relationships good and bad. Skinny and heavy. Learn from your past relationships and take it all for what it is worth cuz it is always a learning experience each and every time. Good luck and keep us informed. PS make sure you eat!

Green Have you tried to switch from risperdal to geodon? it works basically the same without the weight gain. My son gained 120 lbs in less then 1 yr on risperdal we took him off of that and put him on geodon and topomax and the weight came off and he had wonderful control. Have seen terrific control with other patients as well. Just a suggestion for you and that may help you to get rid of more weight and keep your psych issues under control.

I have to tell you that it would be greatly advised that you call off the second half of your shift. 9pm is too late to take the mag citrate. I have had to take several bowel preps personally and also working a surgical floor and giving them on a regular basis I can tell you that it is not to your best advise to take it that late. Sometimes it takes right away and other times it takes awhile to kick in and lasts for a long time. They want you to take it at that time so that your bowels arec cleaned out and that you can get some rest. There is a good possibility that if you take it so late that you won't be completely cleaned out when needed and then will have to postpone your surgery. Thats something that I am sure you don't want to happen. Best of luck!

SOTC thread...Why NOT to post when your angry
NurseTeresa replied to nursekathy2u's topic in Rants & Raves
Kathy, I too understood exatcly what it was you were saying when you started this thread last night. I am sorry that people do throw religion or lack of beliefs up at people when they have issues. I also am a Christian and must have missed the bad threads as I was at church with my girls last night. Anyways, with that said....everyone is allowed their own beliefs be it God or whoever or even no one and its okay! Just don't those that do have a significant higher power as we will not slam those who have no one but themselfs.
