I am not banded yet....not sure when it will be but I do take care of post op banding and bypass patients as well as regular surgical patients at a hospital here in Dayton.

He is at Good Sam hospital still. Feel free to PM me. I work on the surgery bariatric unit at the hospital. He is very nice. Long story to the behind the doors antics that were done to him. He is sharing an office with Dr, Mcguire and shoot cant think of the other drs name. Dr Siddiqui is in the process of having his new office built and it should be opening soon. But he is doing surgeries and has never stopped.

We have had a couple people in to be banded where I work and they said it wasnt that terrible to get approved. They both had some co morbidities along with the increased bmi! Good luck and keep us posted!
  8. Sometimes it is because you take too big of bites or dont chew enough....remember chew chew chew and eat slowly. See if that helps the sticking feeling.

What to do for pain relief...

Cosean...there is no reason you should be forced only with tylenol as an option. We send our patients out with vicoden(lortab), percocet and occassionally darvocet due to allergies. Drs dont care to give darvocet too often due to the long term effects it has and the effects it has on older adults. Hope this helps. Call your surgeon and talk to him. If he isnt willing to help...go talk with your physican and go over your allergies and have him give you something for the pain. Liquid has nasty after taste but goes down easily. The pills can be crushed and put in applesauce or yougert etc. Good luck with getting your pain controlled soon!

    Complications

Just something to think about...sometimes slippage can be taken care of by taking all the fill out of your band and see if things will return back to normal...not always is surgery required.

    What have I done??? yikes

If you want the bloating and the pain to decrease then you need to get up and walk walk walk. The bloating is from the CO2 that they use to inflate your abdomen so that they can see what they are doing during the surgery. As for the bloating to go down...it varies from person to person....some a few days some up to about 10 weeks. However, the more you walk the more it causes that carbon dioxide to break down....the more it breaks down the smaller your abdomen will be. The carbon dioxide is also the reason you are having shoulder pain. That gas will move all around from shoulders to back to chest...can even sometimes make you feel like you are having a heart attack..... Gas ex will help some but the main thing I can't stress enough is to get up and walk walk walk. It will help also with the shoulder/arm pain thing you have going on as well as the distention. Good Luck! Just remember this to will pass with time and movement!

    Please Help!!!!!!!

We went through a similar thing with Anthem BCBS a couple years ago. Then we were forced to only take UHC. Anthem would pay for the bypass and UHC will not. Two years down the road the hospital is again taking patients with Anthem but it still isn't offered to us as employees. I feel for you and pray that things will work out to your advantage. Nothing like being screwed royally because of insurance companies and hospitals cant come to an agreement! Good Luck!

    Question ... memory loss

Mine also gets worse if I drink more nutrasweet. Just a thought I would throw out to everyone. I do have sleep apnea and a very stressful job. Things get worse with my memory with increased stress(which causes less sleep) and then if i am drinking more things with nurtasweet my memory is down to nill. I have an uncle who thought he was losing his mind and the Dr asked him how much nutrasweet he consumed...his response was I drink diet pop with it, koolaid made with it and ice tea made with it. The dr told him to cut down on it as much as possible and within a few days his memory was increasing. Just one of the side effects that the makers of aspartum do not share! So beware of too much nurtasweet!

Hello Ohio, let's get this started

Hi Susan! We are neighbors....I grew up in Tipp City and now live in Vandalia. I work at GSH and take care of Dr Clarey and Dr Bruce's patients as well as Dr Sidiqqui's patients. We have an awesome new bariatric portion. The rooms and bathrooms are to die for. Keep hoping that I will be able to be in one of those rooms to be banded instead of always taking care of those who are being banded. Welcome! Please feel free to send me a private message. I have lots of information if you are ever in need of any!

Hi Donna and congratulations on your new journey! Where did you have your banding done? I work at GSH and work on the bariatric/surgery floor. This is a wonderful place to come for questions and support. Anything you have wanted to know you can find here and if one person doesnt know the answer then someone will or we will help you find it. Again Congratulations! Are you going to the support groups that Dr Clarey and Dr Bruce have set up? Have they started a seperate one for just banding patients yet? I had two patients this past week who said that they still didnt have too many people with the band in attendance there and that they are mostly rny. Hope to talk to you soon!
  20. HI Megan! Welcome to LBT! Congratulations on finding that you were approved! Hope that your date is soon!
  21. Welcome to LBt Sue! Glad that you have been able to have your questions answered. Makes things alot easier doesnt it? Good luck on your journey!

tch110...depending on where you are located there are several drs available who will fill on patients that they did not band. Dr Curry in cincinnati is one of them. There are a few in that area as well as a few in the dayton area. Dr C posts on here and reads our posts regularly! Very personable and knowledgable as well.

WASaBubble Butt.....yes I know about the policy having to be writtien to include it. Unfortunately they refuse to allow it. Four years ago when I started at the hospital we had BCBS and it was covered. Now we are forced to only have UHC and it is no longer covered. We thought that since they opened a bariatric unit that they would cover it. The hospital I work for is my no way in a position that they can not afford it. They are in the top of profits in this entire area. We have three hospitals and they just acquired another one. Not to include all the urgent cares and the surgery centers and the other satelite buildings they have and are building as we speak.

Are you from dayton? Send me a pm and I can give you a couple of names. Congratulations on the good price. May I ask where and with who and how much? I am not banded as of yet cuz of wonderful insurance....gotta love it when the businesses use wls as an exclusion no matter what(specially when we have a barriatric unit where I work)
  25. Where in ohio are you located? I know of several drs in the area. PM me and I can let you know of a few choices.
