  1. I'm 5 days post-op and it's hardest when I'm feeding the family and I want some too. I'll take a bite or two but spit it out after chewing it. I miss chewing things:-) No sure if I could do this or not but I really wanted some watermelon, so I ate the juice and spit out the pulp. I think what I will miss most is the social eating (christmas, thankgiving, going out w/ friends and husband).
  2. I'm 5 day post-op and I've noticed that I do have some hunger pains too, especially when I'm feeding my family. But the key with me I noticed is to stay hydrated. I just drink and drink. When I'm hungry I drink a protein drink. I'm drinking the EAS from Sam's club. It has 0 carbs, 17 grams of protein and only 110 calories, 0 sugars. I don't mind the taste. They all taste nasty but I just chug it down (slowly). Try drinking a protein shake for breakfast to see if it'll stop the stomach pains. Maybe try blending in a quarter of a banana to balance out the taste?
  3. Chin UP! Your body is going through changes and hormons(?) are off. I'm 4 day post-op and if you could of seen me on day 2, I was a mess, crying and thinking that I did the wrong thing.
  4. I love this blog! Thanks to all that replied. You could tell I was in a lot of pains cuz now going through my notes, I had a lot of misspellings:lol:. I'm so happy to report that day 4 and I'm feeling 95% better. Today, I just felt like I did 10,000 stomach crunches but other than that, no pain meds! Did not think I could recover this quick with the way I was feeling on day 2:crying:. Plus, it did not help that we had a power outage for the last 3 days:cursing:. I've been doing good at keeping hydrated and walking, walking!!
  5. :mad:I'm 2 days post-op and feel like crap! Almost had an anxiety attack last night. Could not get comfortable no matter what I did. Took my painkillers but they did not do much. It just made me feel more 'out of control'. OMG! I had to labor and deliveries, elbow surgery, and laporscopy surgery in the past and this is by far the worst! It's just that I just can't not find a comforable postition to save my like. Finally feel asleep without pain in one postion but I had to stay like that all night. Help! I'm wondering what I've done to myself. I'm trying to think of the good things but not they don't feel so good.:incazzato:
  6. Thanks to all for sharing your pains. When doc put in band he said that I did not have much fact around the pouch and that he put in band in empty. So now I'm still having hunger pain? Is this normal? Of course, there's no way I'm going near solid at this point but I won't have a fill until 6 weeks out?!
  7. good luck, I'm 2 days post-op! OMG!
  8. protein shake, homemade chk stock, crystal light.
  9. No, no shoulder pain. But I've been trying to not take my vicoden just to see how I would feel. I've been walking around the house a bit. Should I take tyenol w/ my vicoden. I started to crush the vicoden but it tastes so nasty that I just spilt in half and swallowed it.
  10. That's great that you had a good experience. I always like to read those. I'm going in to be banded in the morning. Nervous.
  11. Hello all! I'm wondering if your band was fill at all while the dr was putting in place? My dr said that he's putting in an empty band. And I won't get a fill until 6 wks post-op. I'm wondering if then...will I still feel hunger until my 1st fill?:confused2:
  12. Thank you to everyone that replied. Good luck w/ all your progresses.
  13. nmh0604: Good Luck on your surgery. Let us know how it went!
  14. I'm a one cup a day drinker too. I'm being banded this Friday so on Sunday I only drank 1/2 cup instead of my usual 20oz cup. Then I took an Advil for the headache. I felt sluggish that day but kept myself busy so that I would not think about it too much. Yesterday I did a little less than 1/2 cup and was fine. Today I'm a little tired and missing the caffine kick but I've given up coffee twice before ( while pregnant) so maybe this time I'll give it up for good.
  15. Saran: When were you banded? How's your weight loss coming along?
  16. Danyel723 OR Saran: Have you had any 'problems' with getting return phone calls or return emails from the medical coordinators at Great Lakes? I've not had much luck w/ getting my phone calls return right away or emails. Now I'm wondering how it's going to be like once I do really need to get in touch w/ them regarding post-op questions or pains that I'm experiencing.
  17. Good Luck!! My surgery date is 6/6. I know the feeling. I'm happy that I've finally decided to do the surgery for my health but nervous also that it's going to be total lifestyle change.
  18. I'm so glad that you had a good expierence. I really should stop reading all these negative blogs, it's making me nervous for no reason.
  19. Hello to the locals (Detroiters)! I had my dr consult yesterday and was approved (yea!) I was actually surprised to how easy it was. I know I'm self pay and all but he did not even ask me about my dieting history. He looked at my BMI and went over my medical history and that's it. Danyel723: Was your band filled during surgery? The dr told me that he was going to put in the band empty. Did you have feel hungry at all during that first 6 weeks? Did you have to do the pre-op diet? Nmh0604: Good Luck on your 6/2 surgery. I'll be right behind you on 6/6. Did you have to do the pre-op diet too? I was told by dr laker that since I'm consider "small" (first time i've been called small in a long time:lol:) I did not have to be on a pre-op diet!! I'm so glad!!
  20. Good luck! I'm a mother of twins and they will be 3 next week. Although, my twins were on a schedule and very easy going, I don't think I would of been able to have the surgery at 1.5 yrs old. I've just been approved for the surgery and will have my lap band on 6/6. I'm self pay so it only took 2 weeks from the time I went to the free seminar to dr consult to surgery date. If you are through your ins then expect 6 mth to 12 mth dr supervised diet (which you will have to pay out of pocket since the ins will not pay for it). All in all it will cost a few thousand dollars before you could have the surgery. Check w/ your ins first before contacting a dr.
  21. redheath: I know exactly what you are talking about. By the time I go through the 6 mth dr supervised diet, I could have paid out of pocket for the band surgery already. I tally the costs and decided to pay for the surgery myself. I just had my dr consult yesterday and was approved for the surgery. When I told the dr that I am paying for the procedure all he was looking at was my BMI and health issues. He did not even ask me about my dieting history! It's so easy when you're self-pay.

  24. Hello all! I have a question. I was told that having a lower BMI=34 you will lose weight slower than someone with a BMI of 45? Is true and what has been your experience?:scared2:
