  1. Dr. Kharbutli, MD is an awesome doctor with an exceptional staff. He thoroughly explained everything to me prior to surgery, stopping and asking if I had any questions. My time in the hospital would be over night. When I came out of the room I was greeted by Richard, who went over my calendar with me as we set up all of the appointments needed prior to the surgery. The dietician, exercise class, psych evaluation, followup appts, etc. I was then given a booklet that details everything you need to know before and after surgery. This is about the surgery itself and what to expect afterwards. I was also given samples of things to try before surgery. His office is run like a well oiled machine and is very well orchestrated. Everyone is helpful. I had a question about something prior to surgery. I called Richard and asked. Within 3-5 minutes the doctor called me back. The staff at Henry Ford Wyandotte Bariatric part of the hospital were the kindest, most attentive, and sweet people which made my recovery a breeze.

I had VSG on Thursday, May 24th. I stayed one night in the hospital and have been home since then. While my body doesn’t really feel hungry my head hunger has not gone away. When I wake up I think what am I going to have for Breakfast? And I’m immediately disappointed when i realize my options are only a few since I’m on the clear liquid diet for 2 weeks. While it is difficult, seeing that there is a difference between real hunger and head hunger is not something I really considered before. I’m definitely feeling the loss of food as a comfort mechanism. Anybody had a similar experience?

Oh my goodness yes. I had my on Wednesday, May 23rd. I do not feel hungry, but my "'head hunger" almost accidentally tried a pizza my daughter brought home for dinner tonight! Oh! The pain that would have caused! I hope you are doing well.

I had gastric bypass w/ gallbladder removal and hiatus hernia repair on June 19th, 2017. I will be traveling the next two weeks and won’t be able to post pics so I didn’t then today.
    Surgery weight 276
    Current weight 149

The moment I was able to get out of the hospital bed I started walking and literally haven’t stopped. I was able to start running about 3 months after surgery. I have gone more than 2 days without being active. I run about 30 miles a week and do Orangetheory. I took 6 pills a day for my reflux (had been on them since 8 years old), blood pressure and cholesterol medicine. I walked out of Tampa General and haven’t had to take one single pill. My blood pressure is very normal, resting HR is that of a runner and my cholesterol went from 320 to 149 in 4 months.
This was the absolute best thing I’ve ever done. I’m so thankful for this surgery.
Now I just need to save up money for lower body lift. The doctor said I have at least 10 pounds of skin to be removed!

  4. I was sleeved May 23rd and it went smoothly. I woke up pain free. A few hours after surgery I was brought a large cup of Water and told to drink what I could. I remember feeling the cold water going through my empty intestines. lol I have always been a huge water drinker and so I started out little sips. The next day I realized I could drink a bit more without it bothering me. So I pretty much kept my cup in my hand and sipped all day while watching tv. I drank 4- 32 ounce cups of ice water that day hailing me the official name "Sponge". I did have to stay 2 nights because of my fluxuating heart rate/high bp, a problem that I have had for a year. When I got out on Friday I went to my nephews house, my brothers house, my folks house, and grocery shopping for our trip to our lake house the following day. It is an hour away and doctor said I had to stop halfway and walk a bit because of a blood clot I had a few years ago. He also told me I could wade in the lake, but no higher than knee high, which I did. I cleaned our place and entertained 13 people, some of whom had no idea I had it done until someone else mentioned it last nite. I forgot to mention that before I left on Friday the dietician was there with the doctor. She told me I could have 1 Protein Shake on Sunday onl while my company was there, grilling and eating. Yeah, right. Two medicine cups was way too much. I felt like I had just had a huge Thanksgiving dinner and went for that one last "little piece of pie". Today when I tried broth I finally felt the gas pain everyone is talking about! ugh... No more Protein Shakes for me... yet! Good luck everyone!
