I truly appreciate all of you sharing your journey and giving me support for my journey. I really needed the advice and thanks for the reinforcements. May 10th here i come and no more taking to negative people about my journey. Ya'll are the best 😍

I apologize if this seems harsh. It seems like you keep trying to find reasons to cancel. First it was the coworkers intervention and now its nicotine. You have to make it up in your mind that this is the best decision for you... if it is, do what's necessary and make it happen.

I am only 5 days post op but YES I would do it again. I wish I would have decided 2 years ago when my asthma got really bad and my back started hurting so bad. I missed a lot in those 2 years.
Since I am a medical person (nurse practitioner) I did not have anyone trying to talk me out of it but there were lots of questions and concerns from the people I told about it. My husband and closest friends were and are supportive once I explained the procedure to them. Nervous about any elective surgery is normal.
Try to take it one day at a time, be gentle with yourself and envision what your life will be a year from now.

I can't tell you how glad I was I read this post.. I was having the EXACT same thoughts about my surgery date.. 5/9! Reading through the diet changes I know this is going to be super hard, and one of my SIL kept trying to talk me out of it because "That's too drastic!" and I started to panic (especially being on this week long liquid diet... am I the only one who smells other people's food longingly..? Baha)

So I'm completely with you there, hopefully everything goes smoothly for you!

First 24 hours I would say no way. But once you get home its really worth it. Yes I would do it again.

Stop listening to people who have no idea what you’re doing, going through or anything about the surgery.

My only regret was not having it sooner. I know that I had it done when I was ready to have it done, but I still wish I’d been ready sooner.

Don't wuss out. Don't rationalize. Don't over-think. Trust me. I did all of it and it was a GINORMOUS waste of time.
I would do this over again a million billion trillion gazillion times.

Good luck on May 10!! Sorry to hear your co-workers were so crappy about it. Hopefully they meant well - but it seems like they don't get it.

Only thing I regret is the damage I did to myself being overweight for 20 years, wish I did this a long time ago, who cares what co-workers,friends family think. I had many people who were negative and have totally changed their view seeing results.

My only regret is not doing it sooner ! I will not lie , some days are hard . Only because it is a change in my life style and I have to adapt . I am 4 months out and 72 pounds lighter 😁

So happy for you. I hope to be making this decision soo after I finish up my research for doctor and hospital choices.

Please don’t let these people influence you! An interesting statistic is one from the Real Self website. 99% of the people who have VSG would do it again!

I told the people i work with only because I work at a small private practice dental office and me taking off affects everyone. Some were very supportive and happy for me while other were not. The ones who weren't were the ones who gave me the list of negatives about the surgery. These are also the ones who are also overweight themselves and for some reason won't consider the surgery. One of them even said it was because food was the only thing she had in common with her husband...i just figured for every negative they gave me i would give them a positive. In the end it is up to you on whether you want to be healthy. Only you know what you've tried in the past to lose the weight only to have that plus some come back. Don't make your decision on having this surgery based on what others say. Make it on what you know you've gone through to make you consider the surgery in the first place! You've got this and most importantly you've got us! [emoji3] I'm getting sleeved on 5/15 at 2:30 pm and I can not wait!![emoji2]

Would do it again 100%. I've escaped my prison of fat and feel awesome and can do so much more. Wish I had done it sooner.

Be brutally honest with yourself - where do you think you'll be in 2 years without surgery? Where do you think you'll be with surgery? Pick your future self.

Given your proximity to surgery, you will most certainly have the best information about what the pros and cons are. You have talked to surgeons, PCPs and nutritionists. Your coworkers, however well-meaning, are fueled off of fear of the concept of “elective” surgery and scary stuff they found on the Internet. Don’t give their opinion much weight.
My family was pretty hung up on the idea of “elective” surgery for a bit. I pointed out that while this is a fast-recovery, low-risk surgery that is technically elective, the many joint replacement surgeries I’d need in a decade or two would NOT be elective. My mother, the reluctant owner of two replacement knees that each required extensive recovery and rehab, quickly saw the sense in getting gastric sleeve. They are also completely thrilled at how well it’s all gone since surgery.
