  1. I'm at 4mos PO sleeve. I have noticed my hair is falling like 20 times more than at the beginning. Is there an additional Vitamin for it? I take 1 Bariatric Advantage capsule a day, thank you!

My nutritionist strongly suggested getting as close to your Protein requirement as you can to prevent or decrease Hair loss. I have not lost any hair at all. I know everyone is different, just trying to help.

  2. Darin'Sharon- sounds like yours just needed a little adjusting, but it's not for everyone, my dad won't use one. It only uses GPS if you have it turned it on for walks, runs or bike rides, it will count a lot of steps at night if you roll around a lot (I do!) and it's set to sensitive. Depending on the model you're supposed to wear them looser now, I didn't with my other one and got rashes. Sad that yours didn't work out, sell it on eBay lol!
You may be right, some adjusting may make it better for me. I'm not selling it just yet. Waiting until I'm not mad at it anymore and I'll give it one more go lol

  3. I got one after surgery and never wear it. The sweat under the band caused a rash, so i bought the new cloth bands which fixed that issue. Wearing it at night is uncomfortable for me. The app constantly overloaded my phones memory and had to be shut down, so i finally deleted it. And the step counting was done by GPS, not body movement. This resulted in inaccuracy as it would count steps for my commute to work in my car. Also, i would remove it from the charger first thing in the morning and it would have 300-500 steps already. I really regret the $200 i spent on it.

  4. i got my sleeve done April 23rd weighing 280 pounds. About a week later I dropped down to 262-267 ( depending on the scale I used)
Tomorrow now makes me 15 days post op and my weight will not budge from that number. I even been working out here and there for 30 -40 min in hoping to get the weight loss going. I'm drinking 1-2 bottles a day and I'm aiming for four a day as I heal. I'm very disappointed and don't know if I should call my dr about this?
Ive been eating pureed food an its all been vegetables so far, along with Protein Shakes, yogurts and no sugar pudding. Its all allowed by my dr so I don't understand why I'm already at a plateau only a week out, HELP!!!
I also had vsg april 23rd, at a weight of 286. At the end of week 3, i stalled for 16 days! I was sure the surgery had failed me since i knew i was being militant about following the rules. Calories at 600, Protein at 65, and fluids at 64. My doctor said ita fine just follow the plan. Nutritionist said the same. I worried and weighed and stressed, and it made no difference. Then one day the scale dropped 5lbs and i was on the move again. I still think I'm losing slower than some, but I'm going in the right direction so I'm happy. I am 65 days out and down 37lbs. Thats 1.75lbs daily average. Never done that in my life, so the stalls and the scales and all the worrying was for naught.
I will also agree that you should measure yourself. I wish i had done it before surgery hut it didnt occur to me. I did it about one month out and just did it again and am down about 14 inches overall! Dont sweat this, it will work!

  5. I have to be free of nicotine for 2 months before they let you meet the surgeon. Not smoking or drinking or so days has been easy to give up getting rid of coffee is still a work in process. Anyone else?

I wasnt made to give up coffee until after surgery because it acts as a diuretic and dehydration is such a big concern immediately post op. I tried to have some anyway and it just made my stomach uncomfortable, so it turned out to be a non issue for a while. I am now a month post op and can handle about a half cup, and I'm happy with that.

  6. I had a urine test at my pre op appt one week before surgery and again the morning of. They told me it takes 14 days for your kidneys to clear nicotine and its byproducts. I quit in January and wasnt tested until April so I was fine. Struggle every day since surgery against starting back up as I smoked for over 30yrs....but so far am winning the war.

  7. You’ve gotten two strategies—stay the course and increase your calories. The truth is both can work. We are all different so different things work for us.

For either of those to work you really need to assess where you are at. Are you tracking? What’s your macro (protein/fat/carb) ratio? How much Fiber are you getting? Sugar? Refined/processed foods versus Whole Foods? Fluids? All those matter in addition to calories. If you track all those try tweaking them and seeing where that gets you.

Another idea—shake up your exercise routine. Add some, change the cardio vs strength training.

For the record, I ate very low calorie and never had an issue with energy (trained for an ran my first half marathon at 8 months post op on about 500 calories a day). And my maintenance level is quite high so it didn’t wreck my metabolism. So for some of us it works just fine.

I use the baritastic app and track everything...I asked about what my caloric goal should be at my first postoperative appointment and was told not to worry about calories at this point. To just make sure I get 64oz of Water, 60 to 80 of Protein and worry about the rest "later." I was never given a goal or limit for fat either. I use the patch for Vitamins and take a fiber supplement daily. I log everything I eat, good or bad. I did eat some baked lays, which I regretted later. But I still logged it. Yesterday, I had 642 calories with 54%protein, 10% carbs, and 35% fat.
Adding cardio at this point isnt possible for me due to RA. My goal is to lose weight and decrease the inflammation and stress on my joints, but not quite there yet.
I am 33 days post now and had lost 29.6 pounds as of day 26, but now am at 27 pounds lost.
Hopefully this is enough additional information...its all I got [emoji12]

  8. I opted for WLS because I have RA and the meds just weren't as effective anymore. My rheumatologist recommended the surgery to help. I have a 4 yr old grandson that I want to be around for and he able to take him to Disney and all the things I cant do now. I am 44 and reached my highest weight this year due to changing to a more sedentary job and steroid use, both due to RA. I have been heavy since the day I was born, but was always ok with it. At least I told myself I was. I feel like now is the time to take control and finally get rid of all this weight that's keeping me down, in more ways than one. I had a sleeve on 4/23 and I've been averaging about a pound per day loss, and my goal is to lose a total of 116 lbs for a goal weight of 170. I am 5' 6" tall, highest weight was 286, last weight when I had my checkup on the 16th was 261. I dont weigh between dr appts because the fluctuations were driving me insane! I will pray for your success for you and your little one!

  9. You are not alone. I am 26days post op and having incisional pain as well. It is getting better day by day, but if I move or twist the wrong way it sure makes itself known! My surgeon also said it would go away by 6 weeks post op. As far as the gas, I still have that problem too. I figured I was drinking too fast or something, surgeon didnt have any insight into this. I use the dissolvable gas-x strips because the chewable make me nauseated. I hope yours gets better soon, and at least now I know I am not alone either!

  10. I have the same issue with the one nagging incision. I am 26days post op and just had my follow up at the surgeons office. I asked about the burning/pain and was told that the incision they use to pull the excised portion of the stomach out (I had the sleeve) is larger than the others and requires an internal suture in the actual muscle, which is what causes the burning/pulling/pain and that it should be completely gone by 6 weeks.

  11. I have had acid reflux for years. My surgeon didnt tell me until after the procedure that the sleeve can make it worse. Immediately post-op, the first night, I had reflux so bad I could not lie down and had to be medicated several times. I was so scared that something was wrong. The surgeon came in the next day and said that the sleeve can make it worse, but a lot of times the weight loss alone makes it better. I went back to my regular dose of nexium and haven't had anymore issues. In fact, some days I forget to take it and that never happened before surgery. I am now 18 days post op and feeling pretty darn good. If he had told me before that it might get worse, I might have chickened out. So, on the one hand I felt like that was information I needed, and on the other I'm glad it worked out this way. Good luck to you!

  12. You're not alone. It's common. It's "head" hunger and it isn't. I'm 2 weeks post op and I know exactly how you feel. I came home and I felt hungry, but I still would get full quickly. Do you feel hungry at all just after you've eaten? It's a weird thing that happens to me that it will feel like a hunger pang but my dietician said my body is out of sync and I'm eating too fast. Eat slow! My hunger feeling is SLOWLY going away, but it's all your brain and everything not understanding what the heck is going on. My roommate from the hospital (we found each other on Facebook) has the same issue so I'm glad it's not me.

I don't feel hunger after I've just eaten. I feel it like every couple hours. And a few bites of Jello or sips of Water take care of it, it just worried me because I didnt know if it was normal to be feeling hunger so soon! I am so very glad I stumbled upon this forum and know that it isnt just me!

  13. I agree with previous posts, but have you considered trying to reduce your use of artificial sweeteners? I would never discourage the use of artificial sweeteners if that’s what works for a person but some research indicates that artificial sweeteners may cause hunger and other changes in the body.
I chose to try to avoid anything sweetened, naturally or artificially. As a result, puréed carrots tasted sweet enough to be dessert. Nature’s candy [emoji846]

The only artificial sweeteners I'm taking in are in the sugar free Jello and such. I'm drinking just Water.
