    Weight-loss funnies

  2. I am 61 and almost a year out. I too have struggled with slow losses but in my case it is more a result of eating and drinking too many calories. I still do feel a lot of restriction and tend to eat too fast but I have only thrown up once since surgery. I think you are just getting too full too fast and that is the problem. However, what is going on with you can damage your esophagus and teeth so please get it sorted out. I also tend eat most of my calories in the evening. When I eat dinner I use a salad plate and put all the food I intend to eat on it at one time. Protein and vegetables. I do not do well with lettuce but spinach in a salad is okay. I eat the protein first and then the vegetables just until I feel the first pressure of being full. Then I stop and wait at least 30 minutes before drinking anything. I find low carb recipes that we like and eat the same things a lot. I agree that you should discuss your issues with a therapist but you can break this pattern and it is very important that you do so. Good luck!!

    i hate cardio.

I am not a huge fan of cardio but I do walk 2+ miles as often as possible. Back in my younger years I really enjoyed TaeBo with Billy Blanks (you can get the tapes super cheap on eBay) and working on getting a flat screen in my exercise room so I can do them again. The only workout I ever really loved doing. I have an elliptical but it is so BORING that I rarely use it.

    Extremely rude nurse

As a nurse/nurse practitioner for the past 38 years, it is appalling to me that any nurse treat a patient this way in any situation. I recommend thorough documentation of everything that occurred as well as a statement written by your mother and any other witnesses. This should go straight to the hospital administrator and director of nursing as well as any type of patient advocate. Additionally, I would recommend making a formal complaint to the state board of nursing in whatever state you had surgery in since this level of behavior is inexcusable and violates every professional standard I have ever heard of. I know the state board here in Texas takes consumer complaints VERY seriously and this "nurse" needs consequences.

I think the "show a photo or it didn't happen" mandate should apply here....or even a short video...😂

This carrying stuff is a new one for me and this thread is hilarious. While I have been lifted a few times😜 I do not remember my husband ever carrying me anywhere except over the threshold of our new house purchased a month after our wedding. I feel left out....are y'all counting this as a NSV??

I live very close to there and my husband receives all his medical care there. As VA goes I think it is a pretty good one. I hope you have a gastroenterologist involved in all this since it sounds a little confusing. If you need any kind of help please let me know here or via private message.
  9. I had surgery at age 60 and I have lost slowly and am still working on it. My health has dramatically improved and I feel so much better and younger than I did this time last year. It is hard sometimes not to compare myself with others but this journey is different for everyone.

    Best Bralette?

I have a couple of shapewear tanks with no wire or molded cups but they are made in such a way that they do provide support and are pretty comfortable. It is important to try them on since you want a pretty snug fit. This one is from Maidenform but I got it for cheap at Ross Dress for Less. I actually apply antiperspirant under my boobs after a shower and then use some Gold Bond powder to prevent itchy boob sweat when wearing these. I also have a couple of non padded underwire racerback style bras that work well and take up no room at all.
  11. Dr. David Provost was my surgeon at Baylor Scott and White in Temple TX about 2 hours south of DFW. He is one of the pioneers in bariatric surgery in Texas with decades of experience. He was in the Fort Worth area for many years before coming here to be the medical director of their program. As a nurse practitioner myself, I checked him out thoroughly before my first appointment. I think I was in very good hands since my sleeve went smoothly and I have had no complications whatsoever (I am 11 months out now). They have 2 really good nutritionists and some very knowledgeable RNs in their program and I have absolutely no complaints. They did all the work with getting insurance approval and making sure the requirements were met. Good luck to you wherever you choose....
  12. I had my sleeve the same day as you and I am in a similar position...it is very frustrating but I know (in my case) that it is due to calorie intake and snacking. I feel great but I still want to lose more weight. I have gained and lost the same 4-5 pounds since December many times. I am just trying to do my best each day and not feel too negative. Hugs to you!!

    The Biggest Loser (RANT)

I have not watched this show in YEARS but it is important to remember that these contestants volunteer and compete for a spot on the show and the chance for the rewards. They know (or should know) exactly what they are getting into but I honestly think all the drama that occurred was created and encouraged by the show. That said, it all seemed way too contrived and fake to me...
  15. What I noticed was that the cigarette just tasted really bad and I did not feel the "hit" of the nicotine like I normally did. That in itself helped me not crave the cigarettes too much. I took the medication for almost 3 months total and stayed away from smoking situations for that time. Now, it still smells good to me if someone lights one up but I do not think I will ever smoke another one. It helped that I never smoked in the house or in my new car at the time, plus my husband does not smoke. Good luck!!
  16. I quit 10 years ago using Chantix. I smoked the normal amount for the first 2 weeks, got down to one final cigarette and have never picked up one again. It was a little hard at first to break a 30 year smoking habit but not as hard as I anticipated. There is no real reason to use the patches as well since the Chantix blocks the nicotine receptors in the brain.

Sizing drives me crazy too!! My advice is to find a brand of jeans you like and find out what size fits you well and stay with that brand. For me it is Seven7 which I started buying at Lane Bryant in an 18W and can now buy at regular stores or even online in a regular 14 which is a 33 per their size chart. I scored a brand new pair at a thrift shop last week for $10 which is amazing since they generally are $70 to $80. Did not even need to try them on since this brand always fits my body very well. They are good quality and do not look like "mom/old lady" jeans.

This is super amazing especially considering your challenges along the way. Will keep you in my thoughts and prayers for your surgery tomorrow for a quick recovery!
  19. I am so happy for you and so appreciative of all your encouragement and support.

    Nut butter - peanut

I buy natural peanut butter only (Laura Scudder) and since it is only peanuts and salt with no additives. I enjoy it on some celery occasionally or just on a spoon. I probably did not introduce it until 4 months post op or so and it does not cause me any problems.

    Insecure

Mine was really worried about it but knew what bad shape I was in and eventually recognized that something drastic needed to happen. After seeing me lose almost 80 lbs in the last 9 months and resolve all of my comorbidities (severe lower back pain, severe asthma/COPD) now that I am not carrying around the equivalent of a 10 year old on my back he tells me often how glad he is that I went through with it. Only my husband, a few family members and a few close friends knew about the surgery at the time but as the weight loss has become noticeable I am pretty open about it with people I trust. It takes courage and determination to have the surgery and work the program.
  22. Hmmm that may be a good appetite curb for me at night...is it sweet? I know sometimes drinking something warm helps w hunger It is a little sweet from the stevia but not much....it actually has a pleasant tea taste and the coconut milk is unsweetened vanilla and seems good in it. I usually avoid caffeine at night but if that is not an issue for you then give it a go. Lots of health benefits.
  23. In my favorite Harley cup Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G900A using BariatricPal mobile app
  24. Enjoying a cup of matcha with organic unsweetened coconut milk and a few drops of stevia. I really like it!!
