    5 weeks post-op

Congratulations on your 5 weeks out. Your friends should understand that this was not something that you did lightly. They should be proud of you and let you decided when you are ready to go out to eat. Our entire lives revolve around food. Maybe you could have them over and do something non food related .

    Prenatal question

My WLC has a list of 4 they approve. But that’s a question for your NUT. Every doctor and program is different. I know they will help your nails and hair grow. I’ve been on them for about 8 wks and my nails are stronger then they have been in a long time. Lol
  3. I have an appointment with my PHP this week . But I have a concern and question for you pros. I never ate breakfast and lunch was a hit and miss but dinner everyday, now that I have started this 6 times a day eating change like all of you my protein intake has increased a lot. I am diabetic with no previous kidney issues. I have followed this plan for a little over 7 weeks , the last week I have had pain in my right kidney and it aches all the time now. I have kidneys stones but the pain is different with them. Have any of you had an issue with the increased protein intake? I am so inspired by all of you I just want to send out a huge hug for everyone of you. My surgery isn’t until October ( crossing my fingers ) .

    Consultation Success!!!

Congratulations !! I was as nervous as you sounded. But just like you my doctor is great. She spent over an hour with me and my husband answering all our question at that time. Then my NUT spent another hour plus with us . I started following the approved food plan the next day and have not looked back. You have this.
  5. I’m not sure where you live but, CVS, Rite Aide and Walgreens drug stores in Michigan, Indiana and Ohio usually carry the RTD strawberry, Carmel , banana, chocolate flavors. . I like the Unjury chocolate splendor and strawberry, the chicken PP is better if you let it set and then warm it up again but stir it slowly don’t shake it after rewarming and it isn’t foamy .

    Just starting the process??

After my 6 months all I have to do is get a surgery date. Starting in my 4th month the WLC will get the letter from my PHP and I will have my endoscopy procedure that month or just in my 5th month and my mental evaluation will be durning my 4th month also. I will see my cardo doc in month 5 . A week before surgery I have my second round of blood work and X-rays. Just before my 6th month ends they get my insurance stuff together and it gets sent out the day after my 6 month appointment. I had to start my food journal after my consultation appointment so they can see how I am eating and help me change what needs to be changed and guide me along the way. Do you go to class monthly or what? I go every month for a 2 hour meeting with a group of patients that started at or around my same time for 1 1/2 hours and then the NUT for the rest if the time to review my journal and talk about any issues. My first meeting in group is 4/25 this Wednesday. I will let you know how is goes. Are you using protein power yet and if so what do you use? I would like to be a accountability buddy, that would help me so much also. If you haven’t gone through this or are not going through it people just don’t understand. I am thankful I have found this group and you. Have a great night.

Primary care doc doesn’t like WLS

WOW , I know he is your new PHP but giving you metformin is CRAZY. You said you are not diabetic so do not take that medication. It’s bad enough when you are a diabetic and take it. The side effects can be a nightmare for anyone on it. My husband is a type 2 and when he started metformin it came out both ends. He had only taken it about 5 days and told his doctor no way. What is your WLC saying about this new doctors response? It sounds like you are already half way through the required 6 months. Don’t stop now. You make this doctor see it your way. I’ve worked in both doctors offices and hospitals, you have to be your own advocate . Stand up for yourself. Or move on to a new PHP. (Primary health provider). Have your NUT call or better yet your weight loss doctor. Good luck

    Just starting the process??

Welcome. It sounds like we are very close to the same starting point. Do you have to do a 6 month supervised weight loss program for your insurance and doctor before they will do surgery? Like I said in my first post I am so ready for this new life I have started on. I would like to keep in touch . We can support each other in the journey.

    New to group

My name is Kimberly I am 47 yrs old and I am a diet pro. Lol I can diet with the best of them, it is that yo-yo that gets me every time. Except this one. In the past 6 yrs I have been to 3 seminars this time was different my head and heart are in the same place. I AM READY . I started this journey on March 7th this year and am hoping for a surgery date in early to mid October this yr. I understand that my first visit with my doctor did not count, but that is the day I began this new life change. I started following the diet program they gave me the very next day and have not looked back. I dove in head first. I am up to 1 1/2 to 2 hours of exercise 6 days a week with 1 off day. I go in and weigh myself at the office every 2 weeks. I have lost 30.2 lbs as of 4/11. My first group meeting is on 4/25. I look forward to this new life journey. I have nit decided which surgery I would like to have. My insurance pays for the Bypass and the sleeve. I have time to decided and see what my doctor recommends I am seeing Dr. Gorsuch in southwestern Michigan.

    Fear & scared

I under how you feel. I am just at the beginning of this new life journey. My husband and I joined our local YMCA . I am now going 6 days a week. My exercise program is to swim laps for 1 hour then do water aerobics for the 2nd hour 5 times a week then I do 1 hour on a bike on day 6. I take 1 rest day. When I started I was 412 lbs. it has been 7 weeks and I am now down to 370lbs. along with exercise I follow the eating plan given to me by the WLC I go to. Everyone at the gym is there for 1 reason and that is to become healthier, lose weight or maintain . I have not been in a bathing suit for years but said screw it this is for me and I don’t care what anyone else is thinking. Join the gym you will feel better I promise.

    Tattoo before surgery?

I have not heard anything as yes or no. But just a little of my own thinking. Because you are going to have surgery soon remember that your skin will be it be the same. Due to all the weight lose a tat depending on what and where you get it , may not be something that you will like after you are done with your weight loss. If you can wait I would. I have a tat on my chest. It is beginning to look odd and not something I want to show off until I get it fixed after my journey is over and I am at the weight I want to be at. Good luck.

    Just starting the process??

Hi, my name is Kimberly, I live in Michigan and would love to have someone who is at or close to where I am in the new life journey . I went to my seminar 2/16/18 , meet my doctor on 3/7 and started my life change on 3/8. I am required by my insurance to have 6 months of supervised diet, endoscopy , ekg, x-rays, mental health evaluation , and blood work 2 times. So they do not count the first 2 hr appointment in the 6 months. So April 25 will be my first month. I decided to jump right in with both feet. I started the diet on 3/8 . I am an insulin dependent diabetic so a lot of the changes I made were not hard for me. What I am having a couple of different issues. 1) I have never been a breakfast person and because I have to eat 6 times a day I am up at 7 trying to eat by 730. I am still struggling with that at 7 weeks in. I do drink a protein drink at least once a day. 2) I LOVE COFFEE I have been switching to decaf a couple times a day. I have decided that I will be off of it by my 5th month in. I will share with you what a friend told me that is 18 months post surgery. Start looking for an approved protein shake now . She gave me a few that she likes. I have a tree nut and peanut allergy so I am very limited to which ones I can use. But I have found 3 that have a great taste that I enjoy. The companies are. Unjury ( buy online) , Quest, Wonderslim . Because of my allergy my doctor had to approve other brands that they don’t always use. I have always tried to exercise a couple times a week. But now I do it 6 days a week. I swim at the YMCA 5 times a week and then work out on the bikes for my 6th day. I have a 1 yr old golden retriever that I also walk almost daily now . So I get a bonus exercise that I am enjoying so much more now that I am losing weight. I won’t lie the first 2 weeks of daily exercise SUCKED A BIG LEMON, but now I look forward to my daily swims and walks. I hope to keep in touch. If I can do this anyone can.
