  1. My surgery team to,d everyone at our last group meeting not to weigh our selves daily and not to expect weight loss for at least a week because of the gas, and fluids that are used durning surgery. So I’ve decided to weigh myself only at my doctors visits. I am not going to worry because I know this process works.

    Snacks YES OR NO

Orchids&dragons I make zucchini chips to the point they are almost charred but I love them that way. I season them well and toss them in the oven at 400 for about 15 minutes flip them and back in for another 20 - 30. I also do chickpeas at 400 a little olive oil seasoning and in the oven for about 1 hour. Crunch, crunch, crunch. Hope you enjoy. Cut the zucchini thick nit thin they will almost disappear if to thin.

I’m not sure what surgery to do?

I have not had my RNY yet October 2018 I will have it, but my reasons are : 1) my BMI high. 2) I am a insulin dependent diabetic , I have been on insulin for over 22 yrs and was told I would not get off all of it but most of it and most of my oral meds also for a laundry list of health issues. 3) it will give me better control because of the dumping . I know myself and I will need this extra kick, to not even think about “just a little taste will be ok” not for me it won’t !!!!! 4) I will lose weight faster but I know I will have to be spot on due to the malabsorption issues. Something else to help hold me accountable . 5) I don’t want to have to go in for a revision. I will save my 20% for my reconstruction surgery and not a second weight loss surgery. 6) my doctors feel it will work better for me and I have killer heartburn at times be kind to yourself , everyone makes mistakes.

    Lung infection

I hope you feel better soon. I worked in the health care field for over 15 yrs. the one thing everyone needs to do is be a strong self advocate . A lot of the time your doctor hasn’t even seen the call notes because the nurse takes care of them. It is scary how many times the wrong advice is given to a patient. Feel better

Unjury has a chicken flavor protein powder that isn’t bad. 1 scoop is 20g protein
  7. Baritastic is one of the best apps I have used. You can track everything you mentioned along with setting a daily reminder for your meds water food etc.

    Diabetic Burnout

Hi, I have not had my surgery yet, I will have it in October . I am a insulin dependent diabetic right now . I have been following the eating plan my Nut gave me in March 2018. I have had some very low glucose scares,. They usually happen in the middle of the night . I have dropped my insulin way down and I make sure I get something with protein and a few carbs about 1 hr before bed. My diet looks like this 3 oz lean protein 3x a day 3 servings low fat dairy 3x a day ( this counts towards my protein) 3 or more servings of veggies a day ( 1 c raw or 1/2 c cooked) 2 servings max of fruit 1 healthy fat ( oatmeal, quinoa 1/2 c I eat 3 meals and 3 snacks for anywhere of 1000 - 1200 calories daily 100 g protein 60 - 90 carbs ( I never reach this ) I have not had surgery yet 64oz water ( I drink about 80oz) No caffeine ( decaf is ok) no regular creamer sf only I use vanilla protein powder in my coffee that helps with my protein also No alcohol ( empty calories, high sugar) No pop or anything that is carbonated No candy, chips, bread , anything made with flour, rice, bananas, cream soup, tomato soup ( unless I make it myself without sugar) No pasta No juice (regular or diet) I used to have juice to help with my bs lows before I started this Now I use glucose tabs with 4g sugar. No real sugar ( stevia, Splenda ,other subs are ok with my Nut ) I drink at least 1 protein shake a day to get my 100g in. I will be going down to 80g in the beginning of June If you would like to know more send me a private message. I have lost 44.5 lbs from following this and exercising 5 days a week. I don’t miss the carbs anymore, I do miss my club soda but I can live without bubbles in my water. I will be very honest I started this diet change 7 months before I am even having surgery because I know myself. It will take me that long to be clean as I call it. I do have a treat now and then ,I have gone out and eaten a pice of fried food but I always ask for a box to be brought out when they bring my meal I take most of it and put it in the go box. My husband gets any fried food left over and I get the veggies , I always order veggies as my side . I don’t always get my protein in or my water but I try. I was never up before 9 am and now I am up at 5:30 and leave for the gym at 6:30 Monday - Friday . On the weekends I am usually walking around our doing yard work that is my exercise for the weekend. You can do this. You will have some bs lows but you will deal with them and move on. Please don’t get discouraged because of 1 person. Ask all the questions you have this forum is full of the best people around . They have experienced everything after there surgeries and have the best suggestions and great ideas to help get through this. There is light at the end of the tunnel.

    Aetna questions....any insurance question

My WLC has a strict 6 month rule no matter what my insurance has to say. My insurance dose not have a waiting period but my doctors are good and I wanted to go with them. I am glad I will have this 6 months to change my eating and get into my exercise routine.

    General questions

After everything is turned and approved I can’t see anything stopping your surgery unless you are running a fever or have been sick. At this point you have probably had your pre-op appointment and should just follow your NUTs instructions for your 2 week pre-op. You have this no problem.
  13. My WLC has asked all of my group to only weigh ourselves every two weeks while we are in the 6 month period before surgery. I don’t even own a scale I threw that nasty b*~%h out years ago. So I only go in 1 time a month before my meeting and then on my meeting day I weigh in. How about everyone else pre and post op?

    Anyone use BCBS MA?

It may be your WLC requirement. My WLC requires a 6 month Doctor / NUT supervised program. They do not budge on this 6 months at all.

Found veggie pasta Today! Looks awesome!

My local Walmart carries a few off them then we have another store called Meijers that are in Michigan and Indiana they carry almost all of them. They are good . You can’t even tell they are not pasta just keep an eye on what else they have added in. The cauliflower is one of my favs I like to make them into cheese garlic mashed cauliflower. Hope you all can find them in your area.

    Trying again

Kteminem you are doing the right thing. I kick myself everyday for not starting this along time ago. I am about to go to my 2nd month class I will have 4 more months after that. I have a laundry list of health issues that have already started to improve from what I have lost in the last 9 weeks. You know this is something that will save your life and you will feel so much better then you do. I was 411 when I started and I am down 44.5 lbs as if today. That is not even the highest I have been. I started the diet change right away and upped my exercise. One thing that may help you get into an exercise routine is start with swimming it is easy on your body and work your way up to other things. It’s important that you do something you like and you never know you may learn to love it. I know I love what I am doing and if you asked anyone if they thought I would ever say those words about exercise in my lifetime they would have laughed. But that’s not me anymore I am up and out of the house by 6:30am 5 x a week, I also walk. If I can do this so can you. We are all here for you. Remember no one is perfect so be kind to yourself.

    Any November 2018 sleepers?

Hi, I was told I should have my surgery 2 to 3 week of October. I am very close to your November and who knows with insurance companies it may be November. i will start with my schedule. I am not required by insurance to wait but my WLC has a very strict policy of 6 months of group meetings , doctor appointments and a slew of medical test and a mental evaluation. I already have had my first round of blood work, I am already using a CPAP machine for sleep. I have to lose 1 pound a month . I had to laugh at the 1 pound. I would like to keep in touch while we go through this together . We are very close in the process.

    Kidney Stones

I have had kidney stones for years. My Urologist told me that after my surgery I would probably suffer even more. I have both calcium oxalate and Uric acid stones. I have followed the diet restrictions from my doctor and nothing seems to help. They are in both my kidneys. I have had lithotripsy 6 times in the last 10 yrs. they are going to do it again in 3 weeks. I have one right now that is so large my doc said if it were a diamond I would never want for anything. I find that a heating pad on my back helps some and a hot shower can help relax you also . Good luck. Just remember to keep drinking water . The more fluid you can get in the faster the stone will pass.
  21. I am still in my pre, pre-op phase. I started trying to find a protein powder a couple months ago. I like Unjury all the flavors are good , I also like Premier Protein RTD. I keep 4 in the fridge all the time, I like to put them in my bullet blender and toss in 6 ice cubs it makes them even thicker . I can’t drink the pp if it is thin. I have tried plant protein that I just can’t stand no matter what I do to it . I have nut allergies and it is hard to find PP that hasn’t been made in places that also process tree nuts and peanuts .
  22. Hi Gundy, I am sorry you are so nauseous. Like others have said you had MAJOR surgery just a few days ago. Give yourself some time. I use peppermint essential oils for my nausea. You rub it on your stomach and don’t have to drink it. Don’t rub it in your surgery sites but do rub 2 or 3 drops into your stomach. It has helped me a lot. If you would rather use it to make a hot drink only use a drop or two in your water. It is very strong. Feel better soon

    Foamies suck!

Have you tried the chewable prenatal ones? My WLC approved a few different brands that were higher then I wanted to pay. I found the WALMART brand and took a picture of the label sent it to my NUT. She talked to my doctor and they approved them. They don’t taste bad. Good luck.
  24. I have decided to only tell a hand full of people. It isn’t anyone’s business but my husband and doctors. My best friends know and support me 300% a few family members know but after I got crap remarks from someone I was sure would be behind this I stopped telling anyone. If I am asked what I am doing I will say I have changed my eating habit’s and exercise 6 times a week which is 100% the truth. The surgery is only a tool that will help me reach my goals. It is me that has to work it to get what I want. I do not think not telling is a lie. You can have a personal life.

Submitted to Insurance, now I wait...

You can also rub peppermint essential oil on your stomach, but don’t put it on your surgery spots. I have found it helps a lot and you don’t have to drink it. Good luck. Feel better [emoji854]
