Hi Collin. It is a huge deal, and if you're not engaged mentally with the whole process. I'm not sure the process in the states, I'm in the UK and I had to do one to one counselling sessions to understand why I had the relationship with food that I did. If we don't discover why we overeat, or eat the types of food we do even tho they do us no good, then all the operations do is fix the effect and not the cause.Hi all, my name is Collin and im just freshly 24 years old. Im posting here because i need some help and input. I have been almost at the cusp of clearence for surgery twice now in the last 2 years.... im 530 pounds and have self sabotaged and then backed out once i get close to clearence. Any people out there who struggled with mentally accepting all of the changes that post surgery brings and accepting them and actually find out that it wasnt as difficult as tbeg thought ir would have been? I fear so much when i think i can only take cap full sips and never go out randomly down the road and eat a guilty pleasure food without thinking i have to finish it all. How did you guys truly get mentally in a good spot? I feel like my brain cant grasp all of the changes that im so used to abusing in mt daily life. Im such a thirsty individual. Also, do you feel like youre not you anymore after surgery? Like does your stomach and insides feel weird or do you eventually feel like you did internally prior to any surgery? ANOTHER IMPORTANT Q i have is - i am a college student and would like to plan for my surgery either over christmas break or over the summer, how much time do you think i would need to recover before being able to handle school(columbia college chicago) !? Please help
I'd strongly suggest doing some counselling as part of your prep for surgery. It's taken me 18 months from asking for help at the docs to date of operation.
In terms of recovery, I'm having 2 weeks off work. So probably your Summer break would be best if you can time it.

Wow, 640? That's harsh! Well done though.I'm on day 2 of my preop liquid diet. It'll be for two weeks for me. I only get broth, Protein Shakes, sf Jello. I think I hit 640 calories yesterday. I wasn't given a calorie amount so I'm not too sure about that part. How long will you be in the hospital?
I'll be in hospital for 2 nights apparently and off work for a couple of weeks.
I'm about to go make my dessert, low fat yoghurt and some strawberries. Aaaaaaaand then I'm gonna go to bed so I don't eat!

Day 1 of my pre op diet today, all getting scarily real now.
I'm not on the milk diet thank goodness, just two weeks of essentially no carbs.
My toiletries bag for the hospital is packed....random but I felt I wanted / NEEDED to do something.
I can't believe that 2 weeks tomorrow my op will be done.

Yep 2 weeks. I start on the 19th June, operation on 4th July@deece69 I can’t do milk either... is your pre-op diet for 2 weeks before surgery?

I don't do well with dairy so I can't do the milk diet. My pre op diet is high Protein and no carbs. Breakfast is 2 eggs with mushrooms or Tomato, lunch a chicken or tuna salad, evening meal chicken / fish and veggies.Hey everyone! Just trying to get an idea of what a sample pre-op diet looks like! I know it can vary from surgeon to surgeon...
Was it a certain amount of calories? What types of foods? How soon did you start it before surgery? How much did you lose from your pre-op diet?

No cheese, no carbs, no alcohol, no chocolate no crisps etc.
Oh I can have 3 pieces of fruit a day.

Hello, I have just joined the forum today and starting to feel a little overwhelmed. I am due to have my gastric by pass in the UK on 23rd July. Would love to join your group and have some support with what everyone else is going though. I have also hidden this from my family (apart from my husband) as I want to protect my son from what I am doing. Told people I am having my gall bladder removed!! I have been told to start a liver shrinkage diet three weeks before the op. I haven't really started preparing anything yet apart from ordering the Vitamins.

I'm at Chichester, I have my pre op on Wednesday. I'm paranoid about weighing more than I did at the MDT day in December!

4th of July for me - but the irony of the date is wasted because I'm in the UK!
Got my pre op appointment on Tuesday, and I've just returned from a week holiday so I'm trying to be saintly with the foods!
