    Hair Loss! OMG!

Ive read in previous strings that the hair loss usually occurs between the 3 month and 6 month time frame. Ive read biotin does not work and its essential to meet your protein goals and take the vitamins. I have not hit this stage yet! I hope this helps !

    How many calories per day??

I am just over a month out and met with the surgeon and nutritionist today. I get between 450-600 calories a day. They say that's normal . I am allowed not to have up to 6 table spoons of food per meal, but can still only fit in 3. They said at about the 6 week mark that should ease up some. They said as long as I am getting between 60-80 grams of protein per day, as close to 64 ounces of fluid as I can get and taking my vitamins I will be just fine! They said above all listen to my body. Don't push my limits because others may be able to consume more at this stage. I hope this information helps you and brings you some peace of mind! I was so thankful to find this virtual space because I had and will continue to have plenty of questions too!!

    Reflux

I guess I am one of the lucky ones! I was prescribed Omeprazole after my surgery. I didnt have reflux before or after so I stopped taking it during week 2. My surgeon told me if I am not having the reflux I don't need to take it, but keep it in case there are changes down the road! Hope your reflux gets better!

    40 something sleevers?

I am 44 and was sleeved 7/26/18. I am down 36 pounds. I also wish I had done this sooner! The first three weeks were tough for me. Getting the fluids and protein in was a real struggle. Then after week 3, I turned a corner. Nausea went away after my protein shakes. I started working out. Energy levels went up! I can still only get about 3 table spoons of food in at a meal but the nutritionist is ok with that as long as I meet my protein and fluid goals and take my vitamins. It's normal to get nervous, be excited and wary all at the same time! Congratulations on your decision to maximize your health! Good Luck with your journeys!

    WHY?

I guess I am misunderstanding this string. I do t know why anyone is assuming that we are self sabotaging or making a bad choice just because they decided to have a different procedure. I am glad I got the sleeve . I researched for a few years and met with 3 different surgeons who all thought the sleeve was my best option. Since I am barely 3 weeks out this question really threw me for a loop and had me second guessing myself. Luckily I remembered the surgeons and why they all directed me to the sleeve : malabsorption, dumping , keeping my digestive system in tact, and many other reasons. Let’s support each other and our individual choices! We have enough other people second guessing us!

    40 something sleevers?

I am 44 was sleeved 7/26/18. I wish I had done this sooner! At 3 weeks and 2 days I have finally turned a corner and feel way better! My personality is back and my energy is much better! I even worked out today! Congratulations to everyone who started or is planning on starting their journey!!!

    WHY?

I Just had a The sleeve . Of all the choices out there my surgeon believes it was best for me and has the best king rate success. A co worker had the lap band recently because he was not allowed to have the others based on a family history of colon cancer. I don’t think it’s self sabotage as maybe there are just factors that make other surgeries less ideal for some.
  8. I also had my gall bladder out and experienced dumping on rare occasions! # weeks out of sleeve surgery I haven't had any dumping.
  9. I know the first two weeks I felt very tired and had very little energy. I didn't feel depressed or anxious, but I shared the same "Oh, My Gosh, was this necessary" and "What did I do" thoughts! Initially I felt so icky I didn't regret it but I questioned if the hard part really would go away. I can happily say at the first day of my 3rd week I feel much better and more like me personality wise as opposed to dreary, tired, and not wanting to do much. It will get better! The beginning weeks are a struggle but this awesome community is here for you!
  10. Hi all, I am 3 weeks post op today. I did not crush any of my pills and quite frankly they made me sick so I stopped taking them. Yes, I tried nausea medicine and it didn't work. My med team advised against crushing because some of those meds are meant to be extended release. I don't know if I am in a stall but I am weighing myself 1x a week. I have to survive and I am barely scratching 450 calories which some say puts your body in "starvation mode". The reality is I can only get a tiny bit of food in and thats ok! Try to remember that this is a marathon, not a sprint! We have had major abdominal surgery! Our bodies are healing, adjusting and in shock all at the same time. Our journeys will each hold similarities and differences and be unique to each of us! i don't plan on worrying unless I get six months post-op and Ive only lost 22 pounds! HW - 276 SW - 272 CW - 250

    Calorie intake

    3 weeks out about 450 Cals/day
  12. Hi all! I will be 3 weeks post op tomorrow. I have been getting nauseous after drinking my protein shakes all of a sudden. I need them to get my protein goals in. I am supposed to be on puréed stage but my body doesn’t handle those well . I am still doing mostly soft foods and only getting 2 TBSP I’m at a time. Anyone else having similarities? Also all the sugar free fluids are getting gross as I can really taste the chemicals all of a sudden! I know it gets better

    Incision infection

I have one that the surgical glue came off of and its not looking great. It looked more like a hole where the other ones were closed and it was weepy a lil and itchy. The rest look fine. I called my surgeons office to let them know and went to my primary care physician (she's closer). She gave me a script for Doxycycline which is making me throw up half the time. Told me to keep washing it with soap and water. I go back to my Dr. Monday so they can look at it. The antibiotic seems to be helping. If it's not getting better I go back to my surgeons office on Weds. Good Luck!
  15. You can always message me I’ll be happy to listen.
  16. I’m sorry ! It gets better ! I promise! I’m only 2 weeks but feel so much better by leaps and bounds than a week ago! 6 months from Now this will be a blink! You’ve got this!
  17. The whole point of this staged diet is proper healing of your stomach. Everything we add protein to is also included in our fluid count. So 4 oz protein shake, 6 ounces of broth, and 4 more ozs . Thats 14 ozs right there! Do not stress! You do as much as you can without making yourself sick. That's why my surgeon said do 12 ounces of electrolyte drink because it is unlikely you can hit those goals. Your job is to heal, rest, and sip when you can! These stages are the hardest but they are temporary! I use the my fitness pal app to track my intake. I know I have to listen to my body and hydrate. I'll move to the next stage when I feel I can. Seriously rest, sleep, and sip. No need to start worrying at this time!
  18. Hello fellow sleevers, I am exactly one week post op and the fluid struggle is real! I am supposed to transition to 2 tbsp of soft food but it’s so hard getting enough fluids in plus 3 protein shakes (yes I know shake amounts count as fluids) I’m just not there yet! I knew the first few weeks would be hard. I do NOT regret this in any way, but I wanted to bellyache (haha pun) a little. Feeling weak and dehydrated which is shocking for me and if you knew me you’d be shocked I was saying that!! I know this gets better! In the meantime (to the tune in Finding Nemo of just keep swimming) ~~~~~~~ Just Keep Sipping~~~~~~~~!!!! Hope everyone is doing well!
  19. I typed this up for another response a few minutes ago so Ill just share it here! Hi There! You are doing great! I understand the struggle! My Doc said dehydration is the biggest concern over getting all the Protein in. So try to get close but hitting your goal every day is hard, especially in the beginning!! At the end of two weeks here is what I have for you. The sips get bigger and less painful, so Yay! We do fill up fast though. I got brave and had four sips at once today and found out immediately its too much for me right now. I personally found Gatorade Zero the easiest and best tasting electrolyte drink. I am tired of Vitamin Water right now. The colder for me the better! As for other fluids with protein I used broth (mainly chicken) and had chocolate Protein Shakes using water (everything else was too thick). Tonight I will add unflavored powder to some Miso Soup broth! I was supposed to start pureed yesterday. I lovingly cooked the chicken and some carrots in broth and pureed them separately and packed them up neatly! Yesterday, God laughed at me LOL i managed to get 2 table spoons of chicken in before getting full. I had taken an anti biotic (one of my incisions doesn't look right) and bammy tummy said - GET OUT! Today I am back to liquids only per my Docs instructions. Tomorrow soft foods. Cottage cheese and unsweetened apple sauce with me adding cinnamon seem to be my favorites! Then trying pureed again on Sun. I must confess though I may break down and try baby food on Sunday! I just brewed some decaf peppermint tea to make a big ol pitcher of tasty ice tea. Keep at it! You will have stronger days and weaker days! Hell, after typing all this I need a nap! Congratulations!! We are on our way to healthier us(es)?

  21. Hi everyone! Congratulations to everyone!!! I am 2 weeks post op today. I have had good days and bad days. Yesterday was awesome today I threw up and have been nauseous. Listen to your bodies it’s a marathon not a sprint!! Good luck on your journeys and welcome to post op!
  22. Im not quite sure which surgery you had. I just had mine 7/26/18 so I took out my book for you and here's what it says for sleevers: 60-80 grams of protein a day/ eat protein at all meals first 64 oz fluid. Decaff, Non Carb, sugar free or less than 10 calories a serving 25 grams of Fiber per day multivitamins etc 30 minutes of exercise a day Ultimately, I recommend seeing a dietician who can help you develop a plan that fits your life and can help you meet your goals! You have already invested in your weight loss, you might as well get a refresher to address the changes in your life! Good Luck!

    None of Your Business!

First let me say - its your story and your choice with whom you want to share it! However, I had the same fear especially where family was concerned. Family was a pleasant surprise! I was really nervous telling them because I had a major hand injury at the the end of FEB and wound needing two surgeries to repair it. I used that time to jump through the hoops for this surgery. I thought my family would really be upset that I chose a third "optional" surgery. I know its not an option its necessary. So I told them all at a family dinner one night and was thrilled at their support. They had all been harboring concerns about my weight and were glad I was taking control! Work has been supportive because a well liked guy recently had it and it has made a big difference for him. So they are happy for me. Friends have been mostly supportive. I have one good friend who seems to be keeping her distance because she is trying to lose naturally. I fell like she is either judging my choice as the easy way out or afraid if she talk to me she will want to do it,, but I don"t think her spouse is on board with that. It's your journey! Live it and share based on your needs! Good Luck!!
  24. Good luck it will get better! It took me five days post op for my first which didn’t concern me since only fluids were going in.
  25. Hi BadWolf523, How many days post op are you? Walking around helps with some of it but for me most of mine was in the stomach so it sat in what felt like my chest area. It gets better! Hang in there. I am with you on the food thing though. Right now trying to eat my 2 tablespoons of cottage cheese! Congratulations and good luck on your fluids and pain! S
