Protein shakes or adding protein powder to liquids
I gave up coffee back in March when I started this journey. I figured if I had to give up caffeine then there was no point in drinking the coffee without it. Besides I don't have a problem tolerating it. All I'm trying to do is prevent the air bubbles that form when using the blender to mix it. Thanx though

Protein shakes or adding protein powder to liquids
So tonight is the end of clear liquids (stage 1). Tomorrow I start on full liquids and can start having protein shakes. Besides the fake sugar aftertaste one of the things I don't like about them is the frothy or bubbly they get when mixed in a blender. Not premixed, I rather make my own with powder. I can't imagine the swallowing those frothy bubbles is good for the air in belly situation either. I was having the same problem with adding flavorless powder to my broth this week so I started just shaking the contents in a bottle. It still froths up or bubbles up but it doesn't last long. My question is if there is any way to avoid this happening? Can I do it in the blender some way, maybe add something to keep it from happening? Thanks in advance.

Reduced food following WLS
I had no idea. My Surgeon never gave me examples, just said about 80% would be removed. I have my 1st follow up next Wednesday and that will for sure be one of the questions I will be asking him. I wonder if there are any photos of any of the procedure. I was so tempted to ask them to take a pic of what they took out. Figured it was kinda nasty though.

Reduced food following WLS
My wife asked me earlier today if I was getting hungry. I told her I don't feel hungry at all but when I feel whatever it is going on in my belly I just take a few sips of whatever I'm drinking at the time and it goes away. The 1st few days I couldn't believe I was having such a hard time drinking 8oz of broth. Took me at least 3 hours and my belly felt bloated the whole time. I still am amazed I havn't had a meal since last Wednesday morning.

Reduced food following WLS
Yes, I know. Thank You. I started following him a few days after i found this place. Seemed impossible for meals that size to be filling but now I get it.

Reduced food following WLS
Thanks @allwet for the perspective. Amazing results BTW. I hope I can be nearly as successful.

Reduced food following WLS
What a great article. Great responces, great food examples. The only thing that could make it better was if there were some experienced dudes that added to the thread, Just so I could get a better perspective.

Should I be offended?!
Don't be offended. It was a stupid comment and is only his opinion. Just that topic if it comes up again. He should know better than to try to force his opinion on anyone but we're human and it's known that us men sometimes say stupid Sh!t without thinking. Go for the results you want and make you feel comfortable.

Forever
Well said and I don't think there was any A$$ sound in that statement at all. I would rather benefit from this surgery resulting in a longer forever than be fat and unhealthy for a significantly shorter forever.

Pain after swallowing
Just sip normally or try smaller sips. If you feel the pain then lean your head back. It will still hurt but hopefully you will feel it pass. It doesn't happen all the time, sometimes it feels like it just moves back into my belly. Like I said it will still hurt but in my case it's either gotten better or I've just become accustomed to it? Best of luck.

Pain after swallowing
Had my surgery on Thursday 7/12. I have the same feeling but only if I sip to much. I thought it was displacement of air in the belly that was causing the pain. I wind up stretching my neck looking upwards and taking a long deep breath in and another out. Usually at some point I'll either feel/hear bubbles of air releasing or I burp. Also happens sometimes when I bend or twist a certain way but do the same thing with the same outcome.

When Did You Stop Crushing Pills?
Started taking my meds the 2nd day after surgery when I first got home, full pill not cutting or crushing. I used to take all pills at once pre op but do two at a time now because of the amount of liquid I can consume. No problems at all. I was told we were allowed to swallow anything the size or smaller than our pinkie nail bed. If bigger cut in half. Good Luck with it.

Summer 2018 Surgery Buddies Check In Here!
@monies Don't give up. The 1st few days are tough on everyone. It does get easier. NOT EASY but for sure easier. Drink that water in between "meals" even if it winds up being more than 64ozs. Are you doing protein shakes? If so add water to those as well so they are bigger, and they will fill your belly more than just the 8oz. Avoid any food shows or commercials. I know it's damn near impossible but try. Start your own thread and vent to all of us. There are a ton more people here that have better advice than I could give. Let us help you through. The support does wonders. Keep your head up and GOOD LUCK!!!!

Summer 2018 Surgery Buddies: POST-OP Discussion
@Bellasoo Sorry I can't really give you any help on what your feeling as I havn't experienced it myself. I doubt it's the staple line though. I'm pretty sure the staple line is on the bottom of the stomach. Maybe it's your stomach being full that you are feeling? I had a guy at my surgeon's office tell me he had a similar feeling and that was his marker to stop eating. If you are concerned call your surgeon team. There is no reason not to, Better safe than sorry. Good Luck!!!!

Summer 2018 Surgery Buddies: POST-OP Discussion
@Irisheyes2 It is hard at first to get the amount of fluid in that they want us to. I've been around 40oz but today got a bit further. I havn't been able to get all my protein in either but I'm not worried about it. I noticed it's getting better as each day goes by so I know it will eventually get there. Just take your time with it and worry about the fluid oz in over the protein. Today I boiled some bone broth with onions and carrots, a dash of onion and garlic powder and a small sprinkle of red pepper flake. I strained it after and drank it warm. It was 100% better than the plain broth I've been having these last few days and I think drinking it warm made it go down so much easier. Best of luck to you!!!!

Summer 2018 Surgery Buddies Check In Here!
Best of luck to you @insta_adventurer Don't let your nerves get the best of you. It will be the fine. There will be pain after so don't wait to ask for pain meds. I waited because I was sleeping/out of it after and then suddenly it hit me and I wanted to strangle the nurse for taking 1 minute and 30 seconds to get to me and get them into my IV. (Not sure how long it took, but I swear it was at least 10 minutes). Take your time there is no need to rush the walking. I waited until the day after surgery late in the day to walk the halls. I did walk from the bed to the rest room but that was hard enough the 1st few hours. GOOD LUCK!!!!!!!

Summer 2018 Surgery Buddies: POST-OP Discussion
Great to hear!! Doing pretty well also. Closest to eating for me is sloshing SF Jello through my teeth to get it to liquid form. On all clear liquids... so water, clear protein drinks, broth, SF IcePops and SF Jello. Strangely not hungry at all yet and havn't had a meal since Wed morning. Don't need the pain meds, everything is tolerable but did take it twice yesterday to take the edge off a little from my back and sciatica pain. Getting around is slow going as the stretching from one position to the next pulls a bit. But otherwise can't complain. Good luck!!! @Preyes Sorry to hear your having a hard time. Hopefully nothing serious. Take it slow and like everyone always says walk as often as you can to release that gas. Best of luck to you!!!
