I’m so glad you are feeling better, Peridot. That’s great news and hopefully your next fill will not cause the same issue. I wish you the best of luck!!!

I haven’t had my first fill yet. I go back on 7/12 but that will only be 2 weeks post-op. I dont think I will have my first fill until 4 to 6 weeks post op. Should know more after my follow-up visit.

I look goward to hearing about your success😄

Ah, you’re ahead of me so please let me know how the fill goes! How are you feeling? Are you on the purée stage?

  2. Well, it took 10 days and a de-fill to stop feeling and being sick. Best guess was that the band was pressing on my Vegas nerve (that can’t possibly be the right name! I must have this wrong) which controls nausea. I felt better by the next day.

I have to do fluids for an additional week - and my sneaky body has suddenly wised up and I’m now putting ON weight (at c500-600 cals a day).

Really hoping I don’t get nausea after every fill

  3. Hello

I am 6 days post op, and for the last 5 of those have had debilitating and constant nausea. I hadn't seen this as a symptom in any of the research I did and I am quite miserable. Has anyone else had this? How long did it take to go? I'm at my wits' end so would really appreciate any insights or experience shared.

    Many thanks

I had lapband surgery about 10 yrs ago and I love my band.its true now I am having a little problem. But it was due to me not chewing my food well because I had become complacent when eating. I did have a hernia in my esophogus but it was fixed. I love my band and the thought of losing it scares me. It worked great for me. I went from 212 lbs and went down to 118 lbs my normal weight. I recently went to 126 but it will go down. I would do it all over again if I had the chance. The fills are important and the follow up care too . I feel the band works if you work with it. It's a tool not a cure. I love my band but you must choose what's best for you.

Thank you for this - it’s very heartening.

I don’t think it has to do with costs. If it were due to costs, they’d still do them because wouldn’t you want your patient coming back for more appointments & getting filled/Unfilled?

Anyhow, I have sat in on many informational classes by bariatric surgeons and they no longer do bands because the risks outweigh the benefits. Too many erosions, slips, etc.

If the NHS funds (as in this case), they would bear all the costs of follow up appointments too.

  6. ’ve just been for my consultation (with the NHS, in the UK) and been told they no longer do bands because they don’t work in terms of weight loss and almost inevitably end in complications which require the removal of the band. A cynical part of me wonders if this is actually about cost, given the frequency of follow up appointments for filling and defilling

You’re all experts, what are your experiences and thoughts please?

[NB have also posted this in the band forum]
