Also, I’m going to Austin for my daughters graduation and I can’t eat until the 14th so I’m upset. I went to my 2 week check up and she said absolutely not that I can’t go to soft food early. Has anyone eaten early? Also how did you get all your Protein in? She said I won’t get better or less weak without the Protein but Lordy the shakes are driving me nuts lol thanks for suggestions
The Protein Shakes do get old the first week, but they do help. Each doctor is different in their post-op instructions so I'm not sure how long you have to be on liquids. I know when I started with soft foods, cottage cheese and high-protein yogurt helped me get my protein. Check the Protein Shake cook book at bariatricfoodie.com, too. All the best to you!

I was lucky because I didn't have any pain in any of my incisions. Could it be the waistline on your clothes? I hope you feel better!

How important was it for you to be mentally prepared for bariatric surgery as well as physically prepared?

I was scared but my husband and I went to Texas Road house and I tried a piece of his steak and it went down good and tasted great. I had only ordered a small chili and was full after a few bites. Now I only order an appetizer or child's portion. It's great to get full so quick. Love it.
I've not gone to restaurants yet, but am going tomorrow night. I understand Olive Garden has great menu items for sleevers (I got that from bariatricfoodie.com). But it's good to know that Texas Road House has menu items that would go well - and I do love leftovers!

Small portions, chew the food at least 30 times, take your time, and stop when your pouch feels full but not stuffed. Most importantly, follow your doctor's instructions to the letter. When is your surgery or have you had it already?

I didn't take any pain meds during my 2-week recovery. I was cleared to drive after my recovery though. Drove me crazy...(see what I did there?)

9 hours ago, Trystinsmom said:Hello all! I’m Heather and new to this forum but not new to the process. I have spent the last two years going literally through hell trying to have my sleeve surgery. I went through two separate programs only to be denied x2 with letters written by PCP and surgeons for final appeal, by my insurance company because I am obese with no Comorbidities. It has been a roller coaster of emotions and let downs. Last year I married my boyfriend of 7 years and had decided I was going to just be a cash patient and have my surgery in Mexico. My husband was very unsupportive and freaked me out so bad that 4 weeks prior to my surgery I decided to cancel. My husband isn’t overweight and one of those who believe that if I worked countless hours in the gym that I would “be skinny” and thinks that I’m cheating or trying to be lazy by having the surgery. He just doesn’t understand. I recently was diagnosed with RA and after speaking with my RA Dr. I decided that I was finally going to stop letting people discourage me from having this surgery, including my husband, and finally try to take control of my health and do this for myself and my babies. I once again will be a cash patient. I found a surgeon in my area that will accept all of my paperwork from the previous programs that I tried. I have my appointment with him on May 15. I have saved up most of the money for the required payment. I’m keeping my fingers crossed that this will finally Work out in my favor! I will need all the support I can get!
I'm so sorry you're having such a hard time all around, but most of all for your husband's lack of support. You have to remember you're doing this for yourself; not anyone else. There are, and will be, people who want to discourage you but you just have to keep on going because it is about you, your health, and your happiness. I really hope the new doctor follows through. Let us know how it went.

I love to cook! But I hadn't done it since before my surgery. I finally cooked the other day, but gave most of it to my family LOL! I'd be up for a recipe exchange without pictures.

Now i am 46, did i go thru menopause and not even notice. Or is this just the beginning of menopause because all 3 of my older sisters went thru it in their 40's. Went to DR today to have a full woman's well check to make sure. Has anyone else experienced the same thing? Now it will be a few days for blood test results come back, and DR did say that a big weight loss will do the same thing. I have lost 70lbs in 8 months, but if thats the case will my cycle return then? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I was like clockwork before my 28 Feb surgery. Two months and counting and no period either. Going to call my GYN on Monday to make an appointment to see what's going on. I turned 50 in Feb so maybe it is menopause.

How do you deal with friends without outright lying (not my style to lie)
But still maintain your privacy?

I don't think it's lying - more like selective information sharing. I have also kept my surgery private and this Saturday am going to a birthday dinner so I'm wondering what I'm going to say. People have noticed my weight loss and have asked. I just say that sometimes it takes a medical scare to set things right. You are under no obligation to explain yourself if you don't want to. "No" is a full sentence that requires no further explanation.

Just wanted to ask a quick question as I haven't been able to find anything online.
I was sleeved on the 8th of February and after 7 months of no period from being on the pill, it finally arrived on the 1st of March.
It's now the 28th of April and I'm still on, that's nearly 8 weeks of period (54 days exactly)
My doctor wants to see me to get me checked out but I was just wondering if anyone else had been on for this long, and when did it finally end?!
Mine seem to be such a tease! They get lighter and lighter and I'll even have nothing for a day then suddenly they'll be heavy again! It's really frustrating as it's making me crave bad foods more than usual. I hope I don't become anemic after all this blood loss
Thanks ladies xxx

When I left Thursday I had to be patted down due to an anomaly showing up on the scanner.
The same thing happened to me today going through security a little while ago.
I'm not wearing the same clothes as I was on Thursday so that's out. The tsa agent patting me down asked if I had ever had any abdominal surgeries. I told them I had.
Anyone else experience this? It kind of surprised me. I got to see the area in question both days and it's the exact same area on my body both times. Before anyone asked about surgeries, I was starting to feel this could be due to my sleeve.

Have you gone to your doctor to see exactly what it is? I'm flying in October so I'll let you know if my scan throws any alerts. Those images are all in grey tones so it's not like they are seeing your actual body. I went through one, saw my image and asked for a 8X10 glossy *smirk* TSA lady just looked at me LMAO!!

I put 180 for my goal weight because I liked the ticker, LOL! But my main goal is to FEEL healthier, stronger, agile, and flexible. I want to walk a flight of steps without huffing and puffing. I want to sit comfortably at a stadium or in an airplane (without having to ask for a belt extender). I want to place my hands flat on the floor and touch my forehead to my knees.

Surgery was also my last option. I don't regret it. Be patient during the first month and follow your doctor's instructions to the letter. The only negative I had was becoming dehydrated about 3 weeks ago (my surgery was 28 February 2018), but I'm doing a lot better now. All the best to you!

I'm doing solids very slowly. I have had a slice of meatloaf that my sister made and it tasted so good, LOL! And it went down easy...in 25 minutes. I'm going on 2 months post op and the next thing I'll slowly start on are fruits and veggies.
