    Sleep Study?

Most bariatric surgeons want each patient to have the cpap machine. Anesthesia can be tricky for anyone, let along an overweight person. It just helps with recovery as well. I has trace of sleep apnea which means it was barely detected during my test but the docs said I had to have it since I was going through the bariatric program
  2. Reading all the replies have made me feel good about any option I choose! Going to talk it over with my husband. He feels like I shouldn’t blurt it out to friends/family but if someone asks me, then tell them. and I feel better about that option.
  3. That was very informative. Thank you
  4. Wow, that is a great support system you have there at work!
  5. I have Kaiser mid-Atlantic and from beginning to surgery date has taken me 17 months. This is Mainly due to the fact that it is difficult to get specialty appointments such as endoscopy, GI, and sleep study.
  6. Just be careful with driving and being on pain meds. Most doctors advise that you do not drive while taking heavy pain meds (if you are during that time). Most give the meds for 1 week

    A Good Insurance?

This! I have had VSG under Aetna in Maryland and now I am having RNY under Kaiser mid-Atlantic in Maryland. For the Aetna I only needed 3 months before being approved & with Kaiser it seems like anyone is approved as long as you follow their 6 month program to a tee! But I never had to directly deal with the insurance companies. Have had everything handled bu docs, nurses/program coordinators. All of whom have been extremely helpful. Hope you find luck with your insurance company

    Craving a sandwich/wrap

Have you tried cut da carb wraps? They’re extremely thing and I believe less than 3g net carb per sheet/wrap! And I never use the whole wrap. You have to order them online and they last in the fridge and/or freezer

    May surgery

May 10th here! Having VSG to RNY revision. Begin pre-op diets/appts. On the 26th of this month.
  11. Hi all. I was on this site down 7 years ago before/after I had my VSG & here I am again for my revision to RNY. i have been very unsuccessful with my VSG: I really felt no restriction with Foods, my GERD increased x1000 and no dose of PPI’s helped. I never sought help because my surgeon went out of practice and I never saw anyone else because I was embarrassed. I am currently at 263, the weight I was at when I had my sleeve. After I had my sleeve I got down to 220 but I was so scared of eating anything really and was working out twice a day just to lose that 40 lbs. I am approved for my revision to RNY for beginning of May & I am nervous. Not nervous for the surgery (I have had multiple surgeries), but nervous for after the surgery. I plan on sticking to this lifestyle change to the fullest but I am afraid I won’t have restriction. I know my surgeon stated my tummy will be the size of a small plum but I a still scared about not feeling restriction. Everyone on the medical staff said I will and that I just need to eat slow and pay attention to what I put in my body. I guess this is just my anxiety getting the best of me, lol. but a bit more about me: I am 32 years of age, have PCOS (which I had multiple surgeries for) and i Do not have kids but my husband and I would like 1 in the future, so that’s another reason why I feel I need to lose this weight. Just want to thank everyone for being supportive and this time I intend on staying on this site for life! Because I do need it and fell off the wagon when I had the sleeve. Thanks again, Bryn
  12. You will live a long life! People are living longer and healthier lives like you are about to! Thanks to tools like the baristric surgeries. We will win this!
  13. I had an endoscopy & upper GI. The only problem I had was a delayed response to my food moving down my sleeve; which I would assume would leave me full. But honestly it wasn’t really discussed. So no, there isn’t a single problem wrong with the sleeve. I was able to view it and everything during my upper GI. So no, my sleeve didn’t fail me.
  14. I had mild GERD before I was sleeved in 2011, I experienced it again after I had my sleeve (for about 3 years) and it just got worse. No matter what I eat or drink, I have horrible GERD & burping. The PPI’s aren’t working for me and I have tried different doses. Long story short, I am now getting revised to RNY in 6 weeks. I was not informed 7 years ago about GERD being a problem with the sleeve but I am not even sure if it was well known back then either Good luck to whatever you choose!

    So. Many. Appointments.

The program I am in states it is a 6 month program but it has taken me 14 months to complete everything. This is mainly because it takes so long to get an appointment with certain specialist, such as the sleep medicine doc, and The GI specialist. but it’s all for a good reason, we need the clearance to make sure we are making the right decision and are prepare for this life changing event. Not sure if it helps, but maybe let your superiors know about this difficult time for you. And it’s ok to take longer in the programs, maybe just take one day off and go to some appointments or space them out so it doesn’t seem like you’re taking off so much. I am lucky that my job is flexible and I can work on weekends. Kudos to yo and hang in there!
