  1. My mental spot/thinking was: I don’t want to die without experience things. I don’t have kids. I want to ride amusement park rides, I want to hike without stopping every 15 minutes, I want to buy smaller clothes, I don’t want my chest to hurt, I want to have fun while working out etc. You just have to want this more than anything. And I am 6 weeks out and I no longer take cap sized sips. It doesn’t last forever. The idea is they want you to sip constantly so you don’t guzzle water all at once. They want you to stay hydrated. I am only on soft foods and realize we don’t truly need to finish outback plates or eat for the satisfaction we had pre-op. I felt like my mind rewired itself to say “ok, now you’re eating for life, just to satisfy & give you nourishment”. It may help to go to counseling to talk about these things. Lots of people do it and love it. I don’t feel different after surgery in terms of my insides...I feel the same. I am a much more confident person though I would also recommend getting the surgery over summer break. Gives you a bit of time to really take in this new life and get adjusted and heal. good luck to you

If you could close one fast food chain

Arby’s so I would ever be tempted by their Jamocha shakes, curly fries & mozzarella sticks ever again lol

    Post op and bored

I stopped my pain meds at 3 days post op. I was driving around to the different parks to go walking and sometimes just sit & enjoy the weather when it was nice. I also went to the movie theater
  4. I like the compliments and support. Prior to surgery I was always recognized for a bit of everything I did. I am one of those whom have tattoos, crazy colored hair and I am loud. Can’t say I was every treated negative because of my weight. If I was, I didn’t notice it. Bring on the compliments!! lol

    2 day post op

You should definitely notify your surgeon of what you are feeling. If the difficulty to breathe deeper becomes worse, go to ER

    Dumping is REAL

We gotta make sure to stick to our doctor’s plan so we don’t get ill like that. I accidentally took a bite of my fish tonight and there was sweet potato mash on it (came with meal) & I spat it out cause it was overly sweet tasting. I am afraid of dumping and am trying to limit my sugar as much as I can and am choosing not to consume sugar at all if I can help it. I too am a sleeve to bypass revision & was informed of dumping. I am one of those whom hope I get it as a reminder to not make bad choices. i took off only 3 weeks after my rny

    Exercise Before Surgery

Working out before surgery is just as vital as before. And increasing core strength will help to diminish back/abdominal pain after surgery because you will be compensating so much with your back. I regret not not doing it in my workout routine prior to surgery
  8. I went down 1 size in my scrubs at work in 5 weeks (5 weeks post op)

    Sciatica pain.

Have you ever had physical therapy for it? and yes, google stretches for it.

    Cost of surgery

Only $100, was my co-pay. I did get an EOB, & surgery total was a little over $23k.
  11. I purchased cetaphile face wash wipes & body wipes. Wasn’t allowed to take a shower while at hospital (some are, but I was only there overnight) and I HATE feeling dirty or unkempt so these were good for me until I got home. Didn’t wanna log around face wash, moisturizer etc. packing light is key oh! I also brought my own slippers from home because I hate the anti-slip socks. They always bunch up

    catheter?

I did and it was no big deal. They removed it once I had to get up and walk and recovered a bit from anesthesia. I have had them multiple times for surgeries and it never hurt, a tiny bit of pressure but nothing really
  13. I would definitely bring this up with your surgeon/doctors. Anesthesia can be in your system for days after surgery. Not to mention what other type of meds you will be taking (anti-nausea, pain, acid reflux, etc.) that may pose a risk to baby.

    On my way!!

    Good luck & congrats!
  15. This isn’t about your family, this is about you. And so what if you have half a stomach? Are you or they going to be upset you can’t eat more?! The exact thing that made you big to begin with? and I am sorry, if most of your family are doctors, then they should know the benefits of WLS our weight the benefits of being fat. I have been working in healthcare for 10 years and every doctor, and healthcare profiessional I have spoke to about WLS love it, agree with it and are very supportive of it; most are. Unless they aren’t medical doctors. Do you, for you. If we all listened to the negative talks, most of us would be on our death beds. If you don’t get the surgery, how would you feel? It’s your life and good luck to you. You will be fine I am sure
  16. I am so sorry for your loss. This must be extremely difficult to deal with. I know I am repeating myself, but I hope you have someone to help you, even if it’s a dear friend or close co-worker. Maybe you can have your mom in respite care while you sort things out for her so you don’t have to worry too much about her
  17. I necessarily didn’t have a sweet tooth like yourself. I ate relatively healthy and indulged maybe once a week with a cheat meal. I was also really active (hiked a lot) but I just didn’t lose. I didn’t believe I even had the surgery until I had an upper GI done. I could eat more than another with the sleeve could. I just never felt satisfied. My heartburn was so bad that taking a sip of water in the morning Made me uncomfortable. I didn’t have any ulcers or anything either
  18. I too had a revision from sleee to bypass (due to GERD & not losing weight). i truly don’t feel hungry now but I am almost 6 weeks post op. When I see something delicious or what I use to eat before, I crave it for that moment but when it’s out of sight, my craving goes away. I am still on soft Foods so I can’t speak much about eating. Some of those with bypass have dumping syndrome when they eat an abundance of sugar which is positive for some because they no longer want to feel that pain/discomfort again so they stay away from sugar; same for greasy/Fatty/fries Foods I believe

Pre-surgery (in 8 Days). Need Advice.

You will get through the 7 day liquid diet. This is the hardest part in my opinion. Don’t keep temptation around if you can help it. Just know there is a light at the end of this tunnel. as for the negative people/comments, tell them this is about you, not them & you don’t appreciate the negative comments. Don’t talk to them about the surgery anymore unless they bring it up. And if what they bring up is negative, either don’t respond, change the subject or say you’d rather not have their opinion at this time. At one point In our lives we have all stopped the junk food, carbs etc. those quick fixes don’t work. It has been proven that weight loss surgery has better long term benefits than dieting. Sure, people can do it without surgery but some of us can’t. And if next time someone says “it’s the easy way out”, ask them why don’t they walk to work, or sleep on the floor instead of buying a bed; why don’t they cut their own hair instead of going to the salon. We can all do everything ourselves...but sometimes we need a professionals help

2 days Post Op - Update

Congrats! Hope your BP come to a normal range & the temperature goes down so you can head home and recover!
  21. Same here i just took a look at the pain pump online. If it were me, I would ask for pain meds instead. Last thing I would want is something attached to me that might make me more uncomfortable.

    Coping strategies

I understand. I am glad that you got everything situated so quickly and you found a new place. And yes, not having him know where you reside is great. You seem like a very strong woman and great mom. I applaud you for sharing your story. You never know, it may just help someone else. Stay strong!! You have all of our support and you will come out on top

    Coping strategies

I do think some therapy would be good for you; most insurances cover it based on your plan of course. I am sorry you have to go through this. But even small walks on part your lunch break can help and be therapeutic for weight loss and mental health. I hate to pry further and lord knows you don’t have to answer but even though he chooses not to leave, you can have a court order for him to leave being he is abusing drugs with your kids in the home. My mom went through this with my father (I was an adult at the time so no kids in the home) and because he was an alcoholic, the court made him leave. I find it heartbreaking that your kids have to uproot their lives because of your husband

    Facebook group??

Were you a part of that group as well? You shouldn’t be able to see anyone’s participate in a closed group; that’s odd. Maybe the admins of that group need to make it secret

    Fear of death?

I will never forget what someone else told me when I was worried about surgery: you can either die on the operating table or die not trying to save your life as a fat person
