  1. Are you having protein drinks that are dairy? I had that problem and stopped drinking the dairy ones. Haven’t gone back to them but I am able to handle cheeses in small quantities some people become lactose intolerant after surgery
  2. PT assistants treat patients. No more schooling after that. PT techs set up, can oversee exercises and clean up
  3. Man you’re harsh lol. But i ain’t mad at you
  4. But PT’s are allowed to give advice on pharmacology and surgical intervention. I just think people trust medical doctors more. We deal with surgeries and meds all the time. We take pharmacology classes and continuing education. I just think people don’t understand the field quite as much and that is ok. i understand people trusting those whom they are co for table with. I do it as well. I would never see a chiropractor and that is ok. lol

    Sleeve to Bypass?

I had this revision in May. I too lost very little with my sleeve & developed GERD. Since my revision 2 months ago, I lost 56 pounds. More than I lost with my sleeve (which was about 20 something pounds).
  6. We as assistants follow the plan of care that a PT prescribes...so if it’s on there, we discuss it. sorry you feel that way
  7. OH. well I am not sure. Are you post op?
  8. Drinking a ton of liquid, it happens. I have a coworker whom drinks 100+ ounces of water and she is in the bathroom every ten minutes

    Eating and drinking

I would believe so. The shake is a liquid you don’t need to wait for a shake and something like water or juice
  10. I also want to say that when I was concerned about my weight, my family practitioner just told me to count calories and log what I eat. That was the worst advice I could have ever gotten. Sure, I was knowledgeable about doing that but what if I weren’t? Education is key with everything, especially nutrition and weight loss. Our healthcare providers can tell us we are overweight and how to fix it. We need to be told of the possibilities that can affect us because of weight: joint problems, diabetes, high bp, etc. it’s ok to scare people a bit, it’s the truth. The same way people encourage one not to do drugs, smoke or drink. I believe offering nutrition classes should be the next step after educating someone on their obesity. Alongside that should be meeting with an exercise physiologist or physics therapist to educate them on proper exercises for their body types and current health status. I think the combination of these two things can help the obese person to see change and become motivated. And if WLS is an option, then the data is there for the surgeon/team
  11. I had the sleeve and then revised to RNY. I only had GERD woth the sleeve. I had rumbling noises with both surgeries but not loud enough for others to hear. And I have no GI issues with the RNY. No uncontrollable gas or poo
  12. I am gonna chime in on this part. There are a variety of healthcare professionals that indeed deal with weight and it is within their scope of practice to discuss weight and weight loss. I am not entirely sure about nursing but I work with NP’s that discuss weight all the time. And I, as a physical therapy assistant discuss weight with patients as well as part of their plan of care. Weight affects a lot of aspects of healthcare, not just when they see a doctor. If my patient came to me saying every joint in their leg was aching and they had no diagnosis of arthritis or joint problems & they were overweight, I would be doing a disservice to them by not telling them how weight affects their joints and causes pain.

    GERD

I had GERD ever since I had my sleeve in 2011. I had a revision from sleeve to bypass in May & haven’t had GERD since.
  14. Welcome and congrats on this new stage in life!
  15. I began to see loose skin literally 3 weeks after surgery. In my arms, thighs and lower belly. Its gonna be there, I truly don’t care cause I would rather have loose skin and be healthy than skin filled with fat and unhealthy. Skin can always be removed if you want it to be gone.

    Wound weeping

You should be ok until Monday. As long as it isn’t a lot of fluid. You can always get some non-stick cause and cover it but up to you.

    Coming up with a blank

Well I can see how my comment was a bit harsh if people read it that way lol. I just hope people are getting good care, handouts etc. usually people get handouts for their diets. I am one to never create drama nor do I want to make people feel bad. So yes, thank you AshAsh and I agree with your statement. But I also apologize to anyone if they thought it was a blunt statement

    Coming up with a blank

Did your team/surgeon not give you any instructions to follow?
  19. Personally, I just had an appt. with my Dietician & she said there isn’t enough studies nor evidence to show that the vitamin patches actually absorb what one needs. i thought that lab work would show it, but like you said, I would need to know from someone whom is already using it. Although my dietician said the Tespo is a great alternative: drinking your vitamins. Not sure what you’re required to take but as for a multivitamin, Nature Made Multi for her is a capsule but has powder you can release from the capsule and put into a drink.

    Surviving the liquid diet

Dunno about you, but most are allowed sugar free jello & sugar free popsicles
  21. Hair is growing like crazy. Not hair on top of my head...but everywhere else. I have PCOS so I think it’s my hormones going bonkers but I am literally plucking my eyebrows every other day versus the every 3-4 days I was use to. Armpits, legs and even facial (chin/upper lip) is coming in like a champ lol! My wax lady was like, “wow you’re coming in more often now.” 😩
  22. I am ignorant to this subject so I was curious as to why a hernia would warrant weight loss surgery; or even a revision. from what I am reading (or maybe I am reading/comprehending incorrectly). But I see a lot of people saying “I am having a revision because of GERD & a hernia.” or could it be they are having a revision & a hernia just at the same time?
  23. I am able to track my ounces only with a food scale. You can get a cheap one for $10 bucks at any big name store(wal-mart, target, Kmart etc.) or even Amazon was your nutritionist only talking about the fluids you will have for a while? You can track those in a blender bottle, water bottle or with a scale. It when it’s time to eat food, you will definitely want a scale. You’ll be measuring food and dividing it up

    Crushing pills

I would email or call your team for specifics. I had the RNY and did crushed pills for 3 weeks
