Revision from sleeve to bypass question
Bryn910 replied to Starfish23's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I had the same surgery and my recovery has been smooth thus far. I am 18 days post op. I am not eating any foods yet though so I can’t comment on that aspect -
Good luck!

How bad is it that I cheated on liquid pre op diet?
Bryn910 replied to Brassapple's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I don’t think it will hurt you. For you to cheat, you picked a good food choice to cheat with. Not like you ate some cake with ice cream. Just stay on your diet the next four days -
Are you having diarrhea more than once a day? I had liquid bowel movements for about 4 days in a row. It lessened when I eliminated my dairy ready to drink protein drinks.

I think the texture is more off putting than the taste. It’s thick but some are flavored and some are plain.

I say do what is right for you health wise. If I were in your situation, I would do the same. It is clear that you aren’t ready for another child based on what you typed. I wish you luck in whatever you choose

I am on my 3rd tracker. Had one Fitbit, Apple Watch and Garmin. my Garmin lasted the longest (over a year). I returned the Apple Watch because I thought it wasn’t athletic enough. Fitbit stopped working. It is a mess to return them because they want pics/proof and would take 2+ weeks to fix. but anyhow I dislike that these products get ruined so quickly. Although I am willing to try the new Fitbit versa when it is released because the bands are interchangeable. I am also willing to go back to Apple Watch but I fear it won’t be as durable as the other athletic looking ones. so I am just curious to see which ones you all have and your experiences, thanks!

Nervous about surgery tomorrow - experiences???
Bryn910 replied to Pink nova's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I have been fully awake when they take the tube out but you’re so knocked up on meds that I didn’t feel it. I just heard/saw the nurse say “we are taking out your breathing tube so try and cough”. That’s exactly what i did and I was fine. Other times I didn’t feel it at all. I went right back to sleep haha. You will be fine. The pain meds are heavy during surgery & it takes hours to wear off. My pain level in recovery was a 2/10. Pain when i got to my own room was about 4/10 or 7/10 depending on how much i moves/walked. But just ask for meds and if you’re due, you’ll get them. For me it was totally tolerable -
I already have multiple tattoos but I do not plan on getting a tattoo to signify my weight loss. Only for fear if I gained it back lol.

Did anyone have to do lovenox injections?
Bryn910 posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
They’re to prevent blood clots. i have to do it twice/day for 14 days. I have been doing them since post op and it’s been going ok except I find that the thigh is harder to pierce than the tummy and stings for a bit afterwards. just curious if anyone else had to give themselves injections -

Bryn910 replied to Yo-yo girl's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Nope. No alarms. I just carry water with me wherever I go. I also wake up in middle of the night to pee, so before I go to bed i set up a few ounces of water in the fridge and drink those when i go to the bathroom. I think it’s also because I don’t take baby sips but I sip. I no longer use the measuring cups but use an 8 ounce water bottle and drink from that. I need more protein for sure but working on it. The only RTD protein I can handle is premier protein clear which is only 20 G protein each so I am trying to get 3 in a day but so far only 2 is possible -
Anyone go to the hospital alone?
Bryn910 replied to EsoKev's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
This or they will deny future appointments, medications or procedures because you’re a liability. I have had many patients leave AMA and they don’t get prescriptions, doctors appointments etc. most of the time if the procedure was done and deemed medically necessary they will cover your stay but it’s the future you have to worry about -

17 days post op; surgery was May 10. ended up being dehydrated at 1 week post op check up & got an IV bag of fluids. No complications after that. Doc has me on 3 week liquid diet so I am still on that. Have 3 week post up in 3 days, after that I move to soft foods and I am sooo looking forward to some crabs. Living in Maryland and it is the season for crabs! i am getting bored being home for this long but doc said it’s mandatory that RNY patients stay out of work for 3 weeks; hoping to go back June 4th. I am getting in more than 70 ounces of fluids but only about 40 grams of protein only because it takes so long to drink the protein drinks & having to wait 30 minutes before and after. Highest weight was 264 lbs. Surgery weight was 242 lbs. current weight is 229 lbs. -
I had internal stitches. I have had many abdominal surgeries and I prefer staples to any glue, stitches or strips. My incisions with staples has been the only ones where I don’t break out or have malformed skin after the fact. It could be the surgeon or whomever stitches me but yea

Have you increased your carb intake? Maybe increase your carbs 10g/day to see what happens after a week. -
I’m not sure what surgery to do?
Bryn910 replied to susunorm's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I had over 100 lbs. to lose and I originall my had the sleeve. Didn’t lose anything(in the end), developed extreme GERD, & felt no restriction over time. i ended up having a revision 7 years after my sleeve after resetting my sleeve, 5 day sleeve test, kept diet etc. I am only 15 days post op my revision to bypass but glad I had it. I feel for me, that the malabsorption and restriction is what I need versus just restriction from the sleeve. And the recovery was exactly the same for me for sleeve and revision; as well as operation time (about 3 hours each) everyone’s experience is different and it’s about how compliant you are as well. I feel for me dumping syndrome is a slap in the face to let you know that you aren’t suppose to be eating this or that. I see that there’s a lot of leniency for this with sleeve sometimes. And personally that’s something I can’t handle i will never say that one surgery is better than the other but for some people bypass is better than VSG and vice versa. I have seen some amazing results with vsg and I have seen some horrible results with bypass that scare me. It is a tough decision for sure -
I am 15 days post op and the only bad experience I had in the hospital was the darn uncomfortable beds; so I didn’t get I much sleep. I was sore but never crazy pain. I was discharged Day after surgery. One week post up I was dehydrated at my appointment. I wasn’t meeting all of my liquid intake and I had high blood pressure and heart rate. Now, so far so good *knocks on wood*

I don’t believe they carry the sugar free over the counter but you could ask your pharmacist if they can have some delivered.

Surgeon Follow Ups for Life?
Bryn910 replied to IveGotThePower's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Most surgeons do. Bariatrics, I feel, is a whole new ball game/specialty to doctors & medicine in general. Even though WLS isn’t that new. I think it’s vital they follow up with you; you’re their art, their work and they want to keep track and make sure you don’t go off the wall as many WLS patients do. Especially if you have a sleeve; the sleeve is somewhat new as a solitaire weight loss surgery (it was the first step in having RNY years ago); so it’s best for these surgeons and programs to follow & study patients. -
You can still have the surgery after you have been treated

Anyone go to the hospital alone?
Bryn910 replied to EsoKev's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Most hospitals require you have someone go home with you upon discharge because you are on pain meds and you need to be safe. But i have been in surgery while my mom went out to run a few errands and she came back in time while I was in recovery.
