    Liquid pre op diet!

Did they recommend a number of shakes per day? My plan is up to 5 shakes a day plus water and broth. So I think I’ll be doing a shake for breakfast, lunch, snack, dinner, before bed snack. And then other liquids throughout the day.
  2. Woo Hoo on the submission! Sending vibes to get you a quick decision!!
  3. I'm Aug 13th at 7:30am! Come on over to our Summer Surgery post, we'll have LOTS of August members!! https://www.bariatricpal.com/topic/413651-summer-2018-surgery-buddies-check-in-here/
  4. Hope everything went well! Check in and let us know how you're doing!
  5. Ok - I'm going to steal the idea from @sdcheesehead's group and tweak it a bit for our group. Her program awards silver forks in recognition of getting a surgery date. So I would like to award those that have completed their surgery with golden flatware. I found this image of flatware made to look like vintage keys. I felt that was very fitting for our journey. So I will award these at the beginning of each month for those that had surgery in the prior month. I'll come back to do a new post awarding those that had surgery back in May. Hope you all like this idea!
  6. Welcome to the group!! I'm August 13th. Woo Hoo - Let us know how it goes!

    Weird question...

Fat never bothered me because I my mind it was the truth and I fell into that category for a LONG time. But I was also in denial as I always thought “at least I’m not obese”. I knew that my BMI put me in the obese category but there was so much talk about BMI not being accurate, or a number to focus on so I dismissed it. To me being 250lbs was not obese because I was comparing myself to people that were over 400lbs. Long story short obese and morbidly obese very much bother me because those words force me to admit what horrible shape my body really is in.
  9. See, seafood is one I can already cross off because I don’t like it!! Lol
  10. Yes, I love lemon water. But lemon is not my weakness, it’s the sugar. Lol
  11. So you know how many people have a one last meal event before surgery? I was thinking that instead of doing that, I am going to create a list of all the foods I love now but want/should give up and no longer eat after surgery. I'm envisioning this as a to do list in a sense that I check off the foods as I eat them. That check mark will signify the last time I have that food and that I can move on to the next food. I have two full months to work on this activity before I have to start my pre-op liquid diet. So I'll be thinking about all the foods I want to add to the list and since it's summer, Lemonade is first on that list. I love it so much, but really, really need to give it up.
  12. Welcome to the group! Welcome to the group! I love the silver fork idea! My program is starting to solicit support group members to be leaders of the group. That's something I'm interested in and I'm going to suggest this idea.
  13. 4lbs in 2 weeks is a very healthy weight loss pattern. My doctor doesn't require weight loss prior to surgery, but I don't know if that would change if I weighed more. I think there are different schools of thought on the reasons for pre-surgery weight loss. One is to shrink the liver which would be medically necessary for some patients. The other would be psychological as a way to prepare the patient for the upcoming lifestyle changes. I don't know if one is better than the other. Practice is always great for anything though!
  14. For years I had the Ninja Kitchen System and used the blender and food processor religiously. I loved it! Except for the noise level. I didn't like that people in China could hear when I was making a smoothie so I gave it away. Now I'm in the market for a new one for all the pureed and protein shakes in my future. I'm considering going back to a Ninja, but wanted to hear other's reviews in what you guys use and recommend. So - what do you guys use and love?
  15. I looked up all the surgeons in. my area after ruling out the one that nearly killed my mother. Then I researched their website and narrowed down my choices to the top three that had the most experience and impressive credentials. All three had info sessions online so I watched those and was able to get a feel for each one prior to my appts. Ultimately I chose the surgeon that I felt most connected to.

    GOAL!!

    Congrats!!
  17. Ditto to this. My surgeon suggested I crush them up until I feel comfortable enough to swallow them. I changed all my extended release meds to regular in preparation for this. I’m quite looking forward to taking my meds via sugar free chocolate pudding. 😀
  18. My actual decision was based on the fact that I have to pay for it myself and of the two the sleeve is significantly cheaper. But in terms of a comparison of the surgical aspects, I feel more comfortable with the less invasive procedure. I like the idea of having the benefit of a smaller stomach without rerouting my intestines. The decision for me was really about comfort level balanced with what is best for my goals and health.
  19. I will have a 7 day liquid day. Up to 5 protein shakes a day and unlimited water, decaffinated tea, and non-carbonated drinks with less than 20 calories per serving. Really not looking forward to it but I know it's for the best!
  20. Thanks - I feel like I have been extra busy lately and haven't been able to pop in as much. But I need to because there is so much awesome activity on here!!
  21. I am so happy to have all of you here. We currently have 86 members that have checked in for a Summer surgery! I keep telling people that time will fly by while waiting for surgery. As proof I was just thinking about how it was just a few weeks ago when I started this post. But today I noticed the actual start date was April 17! Nearly two months ago and it definitely doesn't feel like it's been that long. As much as I want to enjoy this summer to it's fullest, it will certainly benefit me for it fly by! MEMBER LIST: For all the new members, check out our member list as you'll be able to see where everyone is at in their journey and find your surgery twin or buddy! -------> tinyurl.com/SummerWLS
  22. @PCOSSUCKS - First, I am so glad you are doing better and are seem to be out of the woods. I'm thinking of you and your recovery. How scary for you and your family. Secondly, thank you so much for sharing your story here. Any surgery has risks, but I think with WLS we tend to forget (or overlook) the risks because it's a surgery we all want so badly. This is an important reminder for us to be realistic and be prepared for any and all outcomes. Personally, I updated our will and added a living will just in case. I also had a very honest conversation with my husband about my medical wishes should something go terribly sideways. It's also an important reminder to keep your perspective in check. We all want our surgery as soon as possible and none of us want to hit a delay or have our date rescheduled. But sometimes that happens. Keep in mind your physician has your best interest in mind and only reschedules, requires additional classes, or insists on you losing more weight prior to surgery because he wants you to have the best possible outcome. It's easy to be disappointed in these setbacks, but it will all work out in the long run. The whole point of this board and this group is to support one another. We will all have successes and failures and complications are a part of the process. I hope everyone here will feel comfortable in sharing what is going on with their recovery and progress so we can all provide support, prayers, laughter, and love. (I know that sounds cheesy, but this is what we're here for!)
  23. Welcome! Did they give you a specific meal plan to follow to lose that weight before surgery? Welcome - You're so close!!! Hang in there - it will all be worth it!! Welcome! I'm sure this time will fly by and your surgery will be here before you know it.
