  1. I have a scale that does weight, Water, and fat. It helps me see other fluctuations other than just the weight. Like I actually gained .8 but my water levels are up and my fat it's slightly lower so I have a better idea what it's occurring. I'm only 3 weeks out and I'm on the scale only 2-3 times a week until I get my one month mark, then I'm aiming for once a week or every two weeks. You actually have to say no scale and break the habit with the scale. Put it on a calendar! If it's not a weigh day then stay off. Store the scale on a shelf or inconvenient spot not on a floor where you can just hop on.

  2. I had my Sleeve done on March 5th. I am home. Has anyone had any issues with a dry throat cough? It scares me to cough, like I'm going to pop all my stomach staples. I worry that I am not getting enough fluids, though I am still urinating regularly so take that as a good sign I am not dehydrated. I have been home since the day after surgery 3/6, but have not felt as tired as I do today. I literally feel like I could just sleep all day. Has this happened to anyone else?
Thanks and good luck to you all
Still pre-op but I've heard this can be from the anesthesia and breathing tube. Are you holding a pillow to your tummy for support during cough? I've never had surgery so I can speak to tiredness. Maybe if you have Protein that is mixed with Vitamins reach for that one over just protein only shake variations. Glad you're staying hydrated!

  3. Definitely take the new job! Congratulations! I would tell your new manager though. If they are really interested in you for the position and they care for their employees they will understand that you have this pre-planned surgery. Honestly, if they were to rescind the offer because you were having surgery to improve your life and health for the better, would you really want to work for them? Also, from the managers' standpoint, if you wait to tell them then that may upset them because unless it was an emergency surgery typically you know in advance and withholding that information could inconvenience them especially if they were able to find someone to cover for you temporarily while you were out of the office.
I also agree with the other posters that you don't have to divulge what type of surgery you are having if you don't feel comfortable doing so.
I just did this. You should check with your HR representative who handles FMLA only. They will advise you regarding your institutional policy and cannot disclose because they are designated as confidential HR personnel (if that makes sense). I submitted my FMLA and had been approved. They offer came 24 hours later. I informed the hurting manger at that time and we both agreed my start date would remain the same. New job 3/11, sleeve 3/19. I'm only asking for the same weeks. It's a desk job. But know your policy first before proceeding!

  5. I went ahead and mentioned it to my family as soon as I started seriously considering it. My doctor suggested it and initially the suggestion that I needed surgery really hurt my feelings. But after I started really learning about, found myself relating the stories of others, and saw it as an option, I wanted to be more open about it and wanted to be up front with my family and friends.

I am glad your mom is supportive but mostly I would say I have gotten mixed reviews. I am not ashamed of choosing to do surgery but the negativity you do receive can be counterproductive so just remember not everyone will respond positively. Unfortunately, of those I've spoke with I think I have had to do more self-explanation/defending myself then receiving support.
