    2 week liquid preop diet

Day 7 for me and I'm down 7 pounds, but it took a few days for it to start dropping off. I am hoping for another 7 pounds!
  2. I am sorry to hear that after struggling for so long you are having to endure more. I hope you get approved here; mexico is long way to travel for something that can be done here in our "backyard". Fellow Alaskan wishing you the best.

Sleeve or bypass, how did you choose?

I have been diabetic for nearly twenty years, so the bypass was the choice my surgeon felt would have the best chance of reversing my diabetes. it will also help me lose the most weight. I went with his recommendation.

How did you pick your doctor?

We only have two bariatric surgeons in our state (Alaska), but both of them have stellar credentials.

    Frustrated

I have had Type 2 diabetes since I was 27; I am scared that it will not get better with my surgery, or like some of you, it will rear its ugly head again. I can certainly understand how you feel about it; its my worst nightmare.
  7. My father has a force of will that is something; he does anything he puts his mind to. He quit smoking cold turkey, and when he had an injury that required him to relearn how to walk, he went on to RUN half-marathons. Now that he is retires, he lost 40-50 pounds controlling his food and exercise, and he thinks my mom should be able to fix her weight easily because he could. My mother has been diabetic since her 20's, and she has hormonal issues that affect her ability to lose weight. I have my father's drive and my mother's metabolic issues. Even when I was training three hours a day (TaeKwonDo) and lost 60 pounds, my diabetes didn't change, and I even began to gain it back while I was still earning new belts and adding cardio kickboxing to the mix. My father won't understand why I'm doing the surgery, and my mom is so sensitive about her health that she would be self-conscious about it. I will tell them if/when I think they need to know.

Tome off work - how much??

My doctor told me I have to take three weeks of because I have a job that is high-paced, physical (a lot of fast walking and some heavy lifting), and stressful. If I had a calmer job, they would have let me schedule less time off.

My surgeon said that only about 20% of people undergoing bariatric surgery will have gall bladder problems requiring removal.

    Surgery in May?

May 2 gastric bypass. i'm nervous because I have to travel 400 miles from home to have the surgery, and then stay there in housing until my post-op travel clearance on May 8, so I'll have to plan to bring everything I need with me unless I want to shop there.

    Fingers crossed for luck

My surgery date is May 2, 2018 and for April Fool’s Day I got shingles. I had my final pre-op appointment today and the doctor said as long as my shingles get better or stay the same I am still on for surgery. Here’s to good sleep and stress-reduction so this dang rash heals!

    People making decision difficult

When I met with the surgeon for my initial consult, he said that even when people successfully lose all of the excess weight without surgery, only FOUR PERCENT have long-term success keeping that weight loss. Surgery is the tool that give people the ability to lose AND to maintain weight loss.
