August 2018 sleeve surgery!!

Im still waiting for insurance approval. Hoping for August!!!
2. Update from me: called my insurance and surgeons office had not yet submitted anything for precert as of today. I’m frustrated but spoke with dr office who said they’re submitting all tomorrow. Looks like August will be soonest I can possibly have surgery. This is kinda messing with my head and my carb temptation is increasing! I have lost 48lbs as of today and want to lose as much as possible before surgery but I find this unknown date thing kinda discouraging.
3. My stuff is all submitted and now waiting for insurance approval from BCBS Fed. Any ideas on timeline with this insurance? I’ve heard 2 days to 30 days...
4. My friend who had surgery 6/18 told me to take stool softener during liquid phase.

GALS who started their journey over 300 lb+
+

Sabrena I have been eating low carb. I’ve basically been doing a ketogenic diet. Low carb moderate protein high fat. I’ve averaged about 11.5 lbs per month and have slowed down recently bc I’ve been having too many carbs. I want to get back into ketosis before surgery so that I’m burning fat during my liquids and post op weeks even when I’m not eating much. I’m hoping it will help me have more energy and lose faster also. Ketosis is basically when your body is starved of carbs so it switches to use fat for fuel instead.

GALS who started their journey over 300 lb+
+

I am 4’11” and started with BMI about 61 I think. It’s about 51 now. I was 301 at consult. Have lost 46 lbs since March and hoping for July surgery date. Just waiting on insurance now. It seemed so daunting at first when I realized I had passed 300lbs but now I’m trying to see it as I just get to have bigger success. My goal weight is somewhere around 120 so that would be a 60% total body weight loss, or 180 lbs. I have high hopes and am looking forward! I’m excited to be 255 now and hope to lose a few more lbs before surgery.

@brightfaith I am 4’11” !
8. I felt similar discomfort after Caesarean section and ended up with hernia. I highly recommend wearing a binder!!!
9. Hi I’m fairly new to the group. Before even joining I learned so much from this forum and am thankful for the info here. I have finished all my insurance requirements and have scheduled my EDG and sleep study (surgeon requirements). My first dietician visit was 2/27/18 and since then I have lost 29lbs. My pre-op liquid diet will be 1 week per surgeon and I am hoping for a June surgery but may have to wait until July depending on insurance etc! Hoping for VSG. I am 4’11” tall. HW: 301 CW: 272 GW: 120

I WAS SLEEVED TODAY!

Congrats! Very kind of you to offer info! I was wondering how you take the pain medicine? Is it liquid? Do you grind it up?
11. I didn’t know the liquid pre op diet had anything to do with Keto. I’ve been in ketosis since a few days after I started seeing the dietician but I still have to do a liquid diet for 7 days prior to surgery. I do think any preoperative diet is to help shrink the liver of fat but I also think the liquid diet helps prepare and empty the stomach for surgery. Doesn’t that make sense? It may also depend on how much weight they hope you can lose before anesthesia. I don’t know! It is confusing though. All the veterans always say follow YOUR surgeons plan. Good luck!

Vegan protein?

I use orgain brand protein powder. It’s available at Costco here in Texas. It is vegan. I also take a prenatal called vitamin code raw prenatal and it has probiotics I believe. It is vegan as well. I get those from amazon. I am pre-op though and I don’t know if they have chewable or what. Remember beans have carbs. There are other protein options for vegans - a lot of processed foods but some very delish. I recommend gardein brand anything (freezer section) and Ezekiel breads/eng muffins etc. there’s also tofu and seitan. If you are near a Whole Foods grocer they sell an in-house vegan chicken salad called chix salad that is amazing as well. Good luck!
15. You’re probably gaining muscle. Focus on the positives! Remember fat is lost trough breath so when you get your exercise in you are literally breathing out fat!
16. The diabetes aspect is addressed in this book as well. It is a great diet for diabetics you just have to do it right. What it means is even lower carbs.
17. Keto is low carb (usually less than 30g), moderate protein (bc protein unused turns to sugar, and high fat. The idea is that you starve out of carbs so that your body burns fat for fuel. It works! I recommend Maria emmerich’s website and cookbooks. She explains it well. You have to remember that carbs in non starchy veggies are a little different than refined sugar and bread carbs in that they have fiber.

Now! Really

If cutting carbs and sugar is in your plan there are definitely physical withdrawals. Look up keto flu. Push through the discomfort and know it’s just your body craving those things!

Pre-op diet changes - Hungry!

What is your diet plan? I just had second dietician visit yesterday. First was on feb 26. She started me then on low carb and it was hard at first but it has really helped overall. I’m down 20 lbs so far in just a month. Try to stick with it and remember each visit you are given new tools to help lessen the shock of what life will be like after surgery. Plus losing before helps shrink your liver and makes anesthesia safer, both things that contribute to better safer surgery overall. You can do it!!!

OK Ladies, kinda embarrasing question for you all

I haven’t had surgery yet so it may be different for WLS, but I had a c section and they shaved me in the OR when they were putting all the iodine and scrubbin my belly. It was not a planned c section though so maybe they would’ve asked? I doubt it though.
