Food Before and After Photos
TX4everLinds replied to GreenTealael's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I used to wonder about this forum before surgery and looking at it now, 5 weeks post op has really helped me. Also noting the times it takes to consume is really helpful. I appreciate this!!! I feel more on track now. -
Should I switch to RNY?
TX4everLinds replied to sleevegirl88's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Ps. Obviously the bite of pie was likely after a few bites of other carbs. And this was very early post op. But some people do dump severely. My aunt being one of them. May have to do with age or consistent non compliance. I don’t know. -

Here’s what I’ll say: Having any of these surgeries is like becoming a parent. You don’t “get it” until you’re already in it. You can’t prepare enough. Everything’s different despite all your preparations. It’s an organic thing that you have to live out and there’s no quick fixes. No one can really advise you specifically bc each case is slightly different. Or drastically different. You just have to prioritize your hopes and make your choice and then live strong with it. It’s a no regrets business bc you can’t go back. Nothing is ever the same. But the payoff is worth it. IMO so far. -
Should I switch to RNY?

I just had my sleeve on 9/5/18 so I’m a month and 4 days out. This month has been difficult but it’s nothing I didn’t read about beforehand. Somehow the gerd/reflux took me by surprise bc I’d never had it before. I’ve been out on nexium for 90 days and everyday things get better. I have high hopes it is short term while healing, but it was a real struggle when I didn’t know what was going on. I chose sleeve bc I did not want severe dumping. I had seen others sweat and dump and even fall asleep in carb comas on holidays after just a bite of pie. I wanted nothing to do with that. It affects everyday life. GERD does as well but is treatable and (I’m hoping) temporary! I also did not want my intestines changed at all. Gastrointestinal system is so important I just preferred to leave it how God made it! My 2 cents from a fresh sleeve. I did not think I felt hunger at all but think maybe now some of my nausea was actual hunger. Keep in mind I was (and still am) figuring out how to meet protein and water goals. It is very difficult and during healing your body sorta takes over. You have to follow its lead. Good luck! -
Summer 2018 Surgery Buddies Check In Here!
TX4everLinds replied to Ylime's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I don’t know about that! I’ve been in a stall for like a week. Constipation but finally I’m going again. Did generic colace each night. Now I think I’ll do it every other night. I’ve also started trying things that “feel right.” I heard a surgeon say that my body is infinitely smarter than my doctor so I started trusting my body more. I’ve seen improvements since. I am just learning very slowly how much and how slowly to eat and what to eat. Lost 30lbs in a month and only about 1lb in a week lol. My husband reminded me slow is better anyway. Introducing more rigorous exercise will be next once I’m consuming more than 150 calories! I struggle constantly to get protein and water and I never reach goals but I’m doing my best and that is enough! When I struggle, I am inspired by you! You are hangin tough and so I know I can too! -

*** September 2018 Sleevers ***
TX4everLinds replied to macadamia's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
@frustr8 did they do a GI study? I had same problem and was having wild reflux. I’m on nexium now. Has helped a lot. Still have to eat very very slowly. They said some people just progress slower. Water makes me queasy. These are not issues I anticipated so it makes them more frustrating. Next step for me is dilation if I don’t improve significantly by 2 months. Also they had me on reglan which helped a lot. -

Post op pain - be honest
TX4everLinds replied to tahoegirl96118's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
My story is different than most. I’m 12 days post op. Was hospitalized on day 10/11 due to pain nausea and heartburn. I still can’t keep anything down. They’re saying it’s reflux so I’m praying it passes. I’m pretty miserable and barely drinking anything. Pain meds made it worse bc constipation but they did help me sleep at first. -

TX4everLinds replied to Frustr8's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
@frustr8 you’ve eaten a lot more than I have! I’m tye last 2 days I’ve had 1/3 premier protein shake 12oz Apple juice 10 oz chicken broth 2c ice chips. I’m really struggling! Hospital said it’s reflux and so we’ll see how I improve mixing forward. I’d say trust your body. If it’s too soon don’t push it. You have the rest of your life to get there. My surgeon was very kind and said do not obsess about measurements and just make sure I’m using the restroom and that I feel ok. -
Post op pain - be honest
TX4everLinds replied to tahoegirl96118's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I have struggled with pain on the left larger incision. The worst pain I’ve had has been from the heartburn and vomiting. I struggle to keep anything down. Just my experience. 9 days post op. -
Wondering who really struggled with nausea vomiting or heartburn right after sleeve surgery. I am really having a hard time keeping anything down. Yes, I am following all the instructions, no I’m not consuming too much. I take 2 sips of water and then have a burning sensation rise in my throat that then makes me drool and I only find temporary relief if I am able to burp or vomit. Is this part of the process? I have tried OTC solutions such as gaviscon, emetrol, gas x.

Sleeved 9/5/18 Still in hospital
TX4everLinds replied to TX4everLinds's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Today was super rough. That’s all I’ve got to give right now. -
Post op/op details. Still in hospital. Leak test scheduled for the AM. Gas pain and pressure is no joke! The feeling of needing to burp but not being able To is annoying. Have walked some and peed some. More details re: intake and actual day of to come. Thanks everyone for your support! I’ll post every retrying on this thread for myself and others. Nothing has been a major surprise thus far due to the generosity of those willing to share on these forums. Dry lips, dry mouth, swollen throat. It’s all real but easier to handle bc I’ve been informed by y’all!

Could Someone 'Splain This To Me?
TX4everLinds replied to FluffyChix's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I think some people are just afraid. You’re just home from the hospital, you’re in pain, shuffling through papers to double check you’re eating the right thing is overwhelming and everything hurts to eat at first. Some people get a lot more instruction and some people just like posting and are reaching out for support. -
Sleeved 9/5/18 Still in hospital
TX4everLinds replied to TX4everLinds's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
My day 7 was less than stellar y’all. For starters I was woken up early and couldn’t go back to sleep bc it was just about an hour and a half before my pain med - right when everything starts hurting again and you really want to be sleeping. So I laid here for the time until medicine was due, took it and then crashed out and didn’t wake up until 2 hours later. This sounds great but my morning routine has been to wake up, take my pain medicine, pee and hopefully at least toot! Weigh myself. Then take a walk with a protein shake. So my whole fluids schedule was messed up and I just was not feeling well. I’d like to add that without a heating pad I could not have gotten through the last week so there’s a lifesaving tidbit for you. My afternoon medicine went down too quickly and with too much water somehow and I immediately had hideously painful heartburn accompanied with drooling and extreme pain. Staggered to the other room to find my husband who helped me by gently rubbing my back and helping me burp for like 20 minutes. It is hard to explain but it was a very trying ordeal. I started to wonder if I had pushed myself too hard yesterday and this was the price? I’m still not sure. I’m still trying to drink and am in bed but not asleep yet. Here’s hoping that tomorrow is much more manageable and that I don’t have any more setbacks! Regarding weight loss, I’m losing about a pound a day at this point. I was 242 day of surgery and 241 the next day when I got home so I didn’t gain any of the hospital weight I guess. My current weight as of this morning was 236. We’ll see what tomorrow holds. I was pooping sorta but have stopped and, like frustr8, welcome the poo fairy anytime! -

Sleeved 9/5/18 Still in hospital
TX4everLinds replied to TX4everLinds's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
@mandy1013 the first couple days Home from the hospital were the hardest. No way am I getting anywhere near 64oz. But I am peeing multiple times a day, more so now that I’m able to keep more down. Day 2 I only had couple sips and my barium drink. Day 3 and 4 hardly anything more than the water for medicine. Day 5 I got serious about sipping and drank 38oz and was really excited. Day 6 (yesterday) was just under 50 and that included protein shakes as fluid. My goal yesterday was to add 8oz more than the day before. My stomach and throat were so swollen and tender there’s no way I could get more than a few sips early on. I gagged once right after taking medicine and threw up water but it was only a little and went away. It wasn’t like an event that kept on. I’ve had some serious pain and just have to pause and breathe. I found a sipping rhythm that works for me. Work on that and it will help you stay hydrated. I’ll keep posting updates!! -
Sleeved 9/5/18 Still in hospital
TX4everLinds replied to TX4everLinds's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Y’all every day is getting easier and easier. I have learned a lot about swelling right after surgery. It makes it so much harder to take anything in. Swelling of the stomach and the throat as well. This has encouraged me to have patience. Today I doubled my fluids from yesterday and also doubled my protein. I am getting the hang of this!!! The heartburn still bothers me on occasion but is also subsiding significantly. I keep water in my hand almost all the time and this helps me remember to sip. Tomorrow is my last day with Rx pain medication. I have taken it and have needed it for incision pain. I have liquid acetaminophen standing by in case I need it down the road. This concludes day six post op for me! -
