  1. CONGRATULATIONS ! That's huge! Get support wherever you need it. We all find what we need in different places. You lost weight and found sobriety! You are my hero! Keep going!
  2. Sounds AWESOME! Thanks for the info. I'm buying some. For more fun watch bugs on Netflix That's the whole title: bugs
  3. Oh, I like this one. . . . . I'll start. Full disclosure I am 36. No matter what age: You can't wear your daughters clothes. Rue 21, it's in the title, if you aren't in your 20s, don't go in. Mini skirts also belong to people in their 20s. Sweatpants should not have words on the butt. EVER. We are all different. There are plenty of ways to dress beautifully at any age. It's about being comfortable and expressing who you are without going too far. For references on TOO FAR see www.peopleofwalmart.com
  4. It sounds like you are doing great! I am struggling with pre-op weight loss. I have reduced calories and carbs while increasing exercise with minimal results on the scale. But my pants are a little loose and my wedding ring is closer to fitting. . . . I am choosing to focus on the good stuff. If it was easy I wouldn't need a surgeon to take my stomach away from me.

    Endoscopy- Waived or not?

That's bc colon cancer is almost entirely preventable. The idea of a colonoscopy freaks people out, but cancer is worse. I am getting a colonoscopy as soon as I am old enough. Bring it on! Cancer sucks.
  7. Way to Go! You look great and probably feel amazing!
  8. Yeah baby! Those numbers matter so much more than your weight! AMAZING! and congrats

    Endoscopy- Waived or not?

My surgeon only requires scoping for some patients, age, symptom, and risk factor dependent. All the hoops we jump through to do this. . . . . I am almost done with the process too! Meet with my surgeon next week. Hope to get a date right after that. But still need cardiology sign off. We will probably have surgery about the same time, I'll be your buddy!

    Loose skin prevention?

I am pre-op and am concerned about this too. I did a lot of reading and it is true, not a lot can prevent it. These few things have the best shot at helping: Drinks lots of water and develop toned muscle for your skin to hang on. (We all should be doing this anyway) Take collagen supplements, powder not pills (I just bought Great Lakes Gelatin) We all produce less collagen as we age. Less research on this one, but sugar scrub. It can help increase blood flow too the skin. (Who cares if it doesn't really help, I LOVE a good sugar scrub, it's cheap too!) Skip ALL of the cellulite, collagen, and stretch mark creams/lotions. They are expensive and a waste of money. Collagen is a huge protein and can't be absorbed through the skin. Nothing topical can make a big difference in stretch marks either. Other people might debate this one, but there is NO scientific evidence of effectiveness. Hope this helps!

    Water pills

As long as you have normal kidney function your potassium levels will be fine. Don't equate other people's experience with your own. Those other people are probably taking a handful of meds and have other medical conditions that you don't.

    My man said I cheated

You don't have to break up with him over this, there is great possibility that he has excessive jealousy or insecurity that makes him act this way. DO NOT attack him for being in secure. At least talk about the real issue b4 you throw this relationship away. I am a feminist too, but Damn it a good man is hard to find. You do what you you need to.
  13. Welcome! Just found this thread and wondered where you are in process? Hope all is well. If you are looking for support KEEP COMING HERE! There are a lot of warm and accepting people. I am so sorry you can't be more open with your health care providers. It makes me sad. I am a nurse in the gayest city in America , (not SF, they were so ruined by the tech boom) . I really hope you can find a supportive circle in your community. If not, keep coming here!

    Cooking for family post-op

I already feel like a short order cook. The 4 yr old hates anything that forces him to use silverware and the 18 month old only has 8 teeth. Lots of separate meals here. Your family will survive. There are lots of ways to have healthy simple meals. Breakfast for dinner is a fast favorite. Yogurt, fruit, eggs, whole wheat toast/pancakes. Fill the freezer with trader joes. You not eating with them is temporary. You said you are married, sounds like something your husband should worry about while you sit on the couch with a protein shake. Don't EVER be ashamed of your body. I am fat and still swim with my kids. Trust me, I have seen A LOT of people naked (RN); we are all a mess. Perfection only exists in airbrushed magazine covers.
  15. Good to know. My surgery is hopefully next month. Who knows what bits and parts of me will start to sag/shrivel? My husband and I are taking bets! It is all moving south, but if I can slow it a little. . . . . Worth it.
  16. I joke all the time that I have a B.S. degree (Bachloer of Science). Life is too short to take ourselves so seriously My dietician is VERY intense, I want to trade for the unicorn lady!

    Any Oregon Sleevers here?

I am also going to OHSU. Had my psych eval today -passed 😊 Next is cardiology and 1 weight loss class (April 6). Then I can get on with it! Keep me posted on how long this last part takes.
  18. Call your surgeon. Doesn't hurt to get checked out.

    Cost of surgery

The cost of the surgery doesn't matter as much as your out of pocket maximum. Example: the hospital can charge 1 million for my surgery, I don't have to pay 20% of that. I am responsible for my deductible and co-pays ONLY up to the out of pocket maximum. Check what that is for you. Also, I am familiar with Priority Health and they typically make you jump through a few hoops first. I would get started on the process right away.

    People making decision difficult

I'm sorry you are having a hard time. Let's say you do lose the weight; it would take FOREVER with just diet and exercise and almost no one can keep it off long term. I would hate to see you get depressed or mad at yourself if you aren't successful. This is a hard mountain to climb. Don't listen too much to other people. (Even me) Google "Biggest Loser Study" and read some of the articles that pop up explaining the research. Losing weight with diet and exercise PERMANENTLY lowers your metabolism and gastric bypass does NOT. This research has been repeated and confirmed by other studies. Surgery is statistically your only chance.

    My man said I cheated

I don't even know where to start with this. . . . . Are you cheating about your appearance when you wear makeup? Lying about you height when you wear heels? Fooling the world with a push-up bra? 😉 This isn't about looks anyway, it is about health. Studies have shown that people can lose weight, but almost NO ONE maintains weight loss long term. It has to do with the way our metabolism resets after weight loss and our bodies neurohormonal responses to weight loss. The science is behind your decision. It is the best way to maintain long term weight loss. Your boyfriend should encouraging you to be healthy no matter how you do it. Maybe he is feeling insecure.

    Today is surgery day!

You've got this! "It's only the first step" - I love it and so true!
  23. I haven't, but I am interested in what happened to go from 1 to the other. There are a bunch of reasons (heartburn being a big 1) , just curious.
  24. Love It! Thanks so much for sharing! Keep on rocking!

    Exercising with kids

Yeah right to everyone who thinks you should get up earlier to exercise!🤣 Did they miss that you get up at 5am? I can relate and have 2 boys (4yrs and 18 mos). I lift free weights in the living room for our evening quality time. Both of them think it is fun to "exercise". By that I mean that the 4 yr old messes with the resistance bands and mimics what I do with 2 lb weights and the 18 month old rolls around the heavier weights and bangs them with a toy hammer. Let go of the mom guilt. Life with kids is a mess, but you can make it a fun mess 😁. Try home exercise as time together on weeknights. 1 trip to Target should get you what you need.
