  1. I had mine August 2 and was discharged August 5. A week post op certainly feels better than my first day off the pain pump (2nd post op day), but I am resting much better at home, tired of all of the sweetness of Protein Shakes, as I am not a sweet eater anyway, and SO looking forward to that first soft scrambled egg! I started with being up a few hours tiring me out to being up most of today folding laundry, doing dishes, cooking a meal for my daughter, and some general organization. Also, for a flavor oriented, savory eater, it is AMAZING what a couple tiny tastes of mustard on my tongue did for my attitude!

  2. I also had a hernia repair, and as far as everyone except my DIL knows, that is all I had. I told her because i may need the support later, andd she also works in healthcare, as I have. Did not tell my three adult children, mom or sister, and none of my friends. Fortunately I have been logging my diet for three years and they know that and that I had already lost 50 pounds. Also, most of my family doesnt even live in the same state, but in a nutshell, you should never feel an obligation to answer people's nosy questions.

  3. I think a nutritionist can really make or break things at that point. Because I started a bariatric program 4 years ago and was on a diet for 7 months before I backed out of the surgery, I can compare the nutritionist I had last time and this time. This one is also against measuring and counting calories, and her diet instructions have been very vague. If I hadn't gone through a program prior to this, I would be totally lost at this point. That being said, having experienced two programs, I can HIGHLY recommend my previous program at Lutheran Hospital in Park Ridge for any Chicago area people!

  4. Though I am still pre-op and only 57 pounds down from my highest weight, I already have a very bad pannus, as well as a hanging mons pubis so big that if I'm not careful will hang out of my shorts....like a scrotum! It has kept me from wearing regular panties now for 5-6 years. I'm assuming the only real difference will be that the pannus is flatter once I'm at goal, so know I will need plastics. Has anyone had work done to their mons area? For me personally it is problem #1.

  5. I'm a Southerner and fried chicken lover too. I suppose if you can eat a piece and it not be a slippery slope, just a very occasional treat, then there's no harm. I probably couldn't do that myself. I'll miss fried chicken, but for me, rice is going to be worse. After a childhood of Southern cooking, most of my adult cooking is Asian, be it Chinese, Thai, Japanese or Indian, and ALL feature rice heavily. Indian food IS my kids "home cooking" and wondering if the cauliflower rice is really going to work.

  6. My sleeve surgery is set for 2 August, which is disappointing for me, because when I started the process I was told it'd be May, then pushed to June due to extra tests needed, but because of the surgery schedule and the surgeon going on vacation it puts it off until then. I had set my mind ready for the end of June, so now have to adjust my attitude to wait longer. She will also do a hiatal hernia repair. Darn it, wanted to wear something smaller to my son's wedding reception.

  7. EXACT scenario happened to me in 2014, so I chickened out after 6 months and 80 pounds lost . I cancelled 3 days before and have regretted it ever since. Now I've gained the weight back, have even more pain from four more years of my weight on my knees, and so am starting over. No family told this time. Don't let others scare you out of It!

  8. Hi, I've only been on the forums for about a month. This is my second go at WLS. Four years ago, I made it through all of the steps, lost 80 pounds on my own, but then chickened out 4 days before the surgery. Fast forward to current: gained back all of the weight within a year, arthritis and associated pain got much worse, and I got four years older. So, back on a new WLS program in a new state, started last year from an all time high of 412 pounds, lost 40 on my own, and 12 since starting with the doctors at UTSW. I have been to my nutrition and other appointments, and have the appointment with my surgeon on 12 May, when I hope to hear that I will get my surgery date. I am having a gastric sleeve. I am just so sick of not being able to move around like I want, and do the things I want. The target at my initial appointment was a May surgery, but an extra appointment for an echocardiogram may push that into early June, though I hope not. I am so ready.

  9. The lifting would be the problem, and as a homecare nurse myself, you don't normally have help, and many times I didn't have the needed Hoyer lift. If you're days, you have more to do physically, but if you work nights like I did, I'm afraid the stress from the surgery might tire you and perhaps put you in danger of falling asleep on the job. Just my 2 cents.

  10. I'm pre-op, but expecting a late May or early June surgery date. Also, my son's wedding reception will be July 27 with family there who I will not be telling that I had surgery, so will be interesting. They are still figuring out the food menu (which I believe I will be making), and my sister is making the cake. I know better than to touch the cake, but am hoping I'm still not on liquids then, for appearances sake. Sneaky, but I'm not telling anyone at all.

  11. I'm 55 and always told I look younger. I already know my body will be a mess of hanging skin, but as was said before, I'd rather live longer. Went to my appt last week and the pre-op consult with the doc was delayed 3 weeks until I get the required echocardiogram, as the cardiologist is worried about my flipfloppy heart beats that I reported. I may end up being a June rather than May sleever, but I hope not.

  12. I think your body lift is the best I've ever seen, and I've looked at a LOT of before and after pics! In my case, I'm still pre-op but know my body will be a mess, as my skin already hangs badly. My apron is almost to my knees and in the last few years my pubic mound started enlarging, and now hangs between my legs as well. I guess I need to start saving now, because that 22K price tag is going to be difficult for me. Your pictures though, gave me hope that my body can look more "normal" in the future. Your work was fantastic!
