  1. It’s so funny how every program is different? I’m 1 week Clear Liquids, 1 week liquids with Protein or cream Soups, 1 week puréed, 1 week soft food, then move to regular food. I have my first follow up appt on Tuesday. Then next Wednesday I can try the purée but if I have issues I have to go back to liquids for 2 days and then try again. I just had some cream of potato (little less than 2 oz and not the chunks) and I’m trying to decide if my belly is gonna like it. It’s roaring right now. No pain but loud and grumbly. Nose, of course, is running. [emoji25]

You're right, my husband and I have talked about the different drs requirements. Mine is 2 weeks Clear Liquids and clear Protein drinks, 2 weeks milk protein, then 3 weeks soft/pureed, then solids. My tummy makes all kinds of crazy noises constantly. Not really growling, but like when I used to make myself burp and swallowed the air.

  2. Just started stage 2 - liquids with Protein Drinks. I can’t wait until next Wednesday so I can try some puréed foods.
    What stage are you in?

I just started stage 2 this past Tuesday. I was drinking Protein Drinks before, but now I have to have Fairlife milk added or a milk based Protein. I go to my Dr on May 1st to hopefully change to pureed/soft foods. I have to be on stage 2 for 2 weeks. Ugh. But, I wonder how I will be starting thicker things. I finished a Protein Drink earlier and apparently drank too fast because my nose started running.

  3. I’m feeling pretty good, the only thing is I can’t figure out what to eat. I’m trying to get all my Protein in. Surgery date was on the 7th today I’m 18 pounds down. I’m just so hungry and ready for some soft foods

I had mine on 4/3 and I'm the same way. I feel hungry constantly and I'm ready for soft foods. I've bought a lot of things and have it on "my" shelf, but until the 1st, it will just sit there. I've tried things here and there, I've cheated. And then I feel physically crappy the rest of the day. I'm struggling to get my 64oz of Fluid in. I feel I'm drinking all day and I still don't get it in.

  4. I had the sleeve done 4/9. My diet has been Clear Liquids for the 1st week and then “soft proteins” for the next 2 weeks. Think eggs, Beans, yogurt. I’ve started testing a few foods and when I’m eating them sometimes I get a tinge of pain and feel like I can feel the food moving through. Has this happen to anyone else? Maybe I’m not ready to start real food?

I had my surgery 4/3 and I get to start full liquids Tuesday (adding milk to my Protein shakes). I've felt hungry here and there and tried scrambled eggs, tuna, and chicken. I also have pains, almost like I can feel it moving from mouth to stomach. I have to be on full liquids 2 weeks then get to start soft /pureed foods. I'm not sure how I'm going to be able to eat 20g protein/ 3 oz of meat when I start eating soft foods. I can't tolerate 3 bites.

  5. Hey, I had a drainage bulb the day off surgery and he removed it the next day at my post op appointment. It drained a good bit the night after my surgery. They wanted me to squeeze the tube and drain my stomach. My mom tried this and I about murdered her. It was the most intense, sickening pain ever. I decided that emptying the bulb and making sure it was squeezed with no air in it when I was done, to keep the vacuum going. The next day after surgery he removed it. I have a pretty big hole, about the size of a dime. Its starting to scab so I think it's healing well. As far as showering, he said all incisions are fine except for drainage whole. If it is sill leaking then cover it until you have a well developed scab. hope this helps someone!

OMG I know all about that sickening feeling of squeezing the tube. The nurse did that before I got discharged and what a feeling. Mine scabbed good after I got it out and I kept it covered with gauze and twice a day had to clean it with a q-tip and peroxide.

  6. My surgeon and his team all put in drainage tubes/bulbs in everyone regardless. I had laproscopic vsg without hernia repair and I had one. I got it out a week after my surgery on my follow up. A girl I became friends with had surgery the same day by another surgeon in our group and he also left a drainage bulb in her. Talk to your surgeon and find out what they're typical surgery is like from start to going home. We were told at our class we would have one.

  7. Tomorrow is my day. I have to be at the hospital at 8 am. I am excited and nervous. I have been doing a diet for the last couple of weeks, but today it is Clear Liquids only. I think it is mental, but I am starving. haha. I haven't been hungry the while dieting till today.

Congratulations! You'll be on the losers bench with the rest of us. I was starving the day before my surgery too. Try to stay busy. It's more of a mind thing.

  8. Thanks. That is reassuring. Luckily my surgeon doesn't put in a drain.

That is lucky. I've never had one before, my husband had 3 last year with his bypass surgery. It really hurt yesterday after they took it out, but I slept in bed last night and woke up feeling I could run a mile. Too bad I hate running, lol. I'm not sure how your c section was, but when I didn't walk, I got stiff. Same as with my wls.

  9. I've had 2 x caesareans but wondered if this surgery was more painful.
I am not good with pain meds stronger than paracetamol as I get nausea
I really hope I can have a shower morning after surgery also but I imagine that will be fine as they will encourage movement.

I've had 3 C-sections and a hysterectomy and this was a lot easier. I had mine 8 days ago and the only place that hurts is where I had my drainage bulb. I got it out yesterday, but I'm still tender. I was able to shower the next day. Just remember to walk, walk, walk. The gas pains are bad in the beginning but walking eases it. I'm a recovering addict, so I hate narcotics and come home without narcotics. You can do this.

  10. I just started classes I need to no do I qualify be cause I don’t have any health problems

It depends on your insurance or if you're self pay . It also depends on your bmi. My insurance would cover it and my Dr would approve of I had a Bmi of 35 with co-morbidities. Or a Bmi of 40 without co-morbidities. I had a Bmi of 41 with co-morbidities.

  11. Thanks for responding. Yes, I guess the surgery is pretty much standard, but the post-procedures vary.
The recovery doctor that woke me up had obviously seen an awful lot of procedures, and said that I was probably nauseous because of the blend of anaesthetic used. Some anti-nausea meds had me feeling normal fairly soon afterwards- worrying at first, though.
I get no solid food for about six weeks - pureed from day 2 (I had a choice of yoghurt or porridge, and pureed Soup for dinners on day 2 after surgery), then very soft, sloppy food after 4 weeks. Had soluble Vitamins from day 1. If my doctor had told me a different regime, I would have stuck to it, though ! I guess it's important to go with whatever guidelines your surgeon sets.

I'm definitely looking forward to pureed foods. I don't think I'll ever touch another Popsicle.

  12. Male, UK. Got sleeved on 3rd April.
Pre-op diet went fine - mainly Protein Shakes (low carb) and lean meat. Actually lost 5kg before surgery thanks to lots of activity (mainly cycling around) during the diet.
Operation was fine - textbook, according to the surgeon. Surgery day was a bit rough - lots of nausea and retching when I woke up, and I was worried I'd damage my stomach with all the retching, but everything was fine and this was a normal thing apparently.
Was OK next day - antibiotics and painkillers initially but didn't need any further painkillers after getting up and walking about - did some corridor pacing the first day which really helped with comfort.
Second day a bit tired, focused on walking around, breathing exercises (using the spirometer), changed dressings to waterproof ones and showered, which helped. No real pain of any kind, didn't need painkillers after day 1.
Back home now - easily tired but feeling better after eating (mainly blended chicken Soup and Protein shakes) - fill up very fast, feel like I've eaten a full Christmas turkey dinner after 200 ml of Soup. Have to be careful about drinking too soon after eating, but drinking the 2L of Fluid my doctor recommended in small sips through the day.
So far down another 5kg since surgery (Day 6). Being careful not to lift, but no problems with mobility and I'm able to sleep and move around pretty well. On blood thinners, and antacids daily, and a Calcium supplement. Taking soluble Vitamins (a mix of a soluble C supplement and a Multi-Vitamin spray). Hoping all goes well.

It's funny how different surgeons are. We didn't have waterproof dressings, but I could take a shower and change my dressing. I can't start my Vitamins until after my 1st pre op visit which is Tuesday. I won't be able to eat any food for a month, then it will be pureed food. And my Dr said vomiting wasn't normal. Thankfully I only got a little nauseous and got better after nausea meds.

  13. I’m doing good so far. I don’t have a drainage bulb. Mine was laparoscopic and the site the pulled the stomach though still is very sore and bruised. I’m on Protein Shakes and handling those well. Stopped my pain meds yesterday. I did have contact dermatitis to the adhesive on the heart monitor leads so that itches and sucks. Overall, doing well just kinda emotional.

Mine was laproscopic too. The tape and leads made me itchy too. That's why I'm so ready for this drainage bulb out. I've had moments of being emotional. But it's mostly because I want something other than fluids.

  14. Today is tough. 2nd day Home post op. I stopped taking pain pills because they make me feel worse. I had to cut the pills and take a piece every 15 minutes. It took 2 hours. They didn’t help the pain and made me hot. I’m just sipping Water and broth. I know this will get better. So far they stopped all my diabetes meds so that’s a win I’m holding on to. Each day will get better, but whoever thinks this is the easy way out is flat out wrong.

I came home yesterday and took one of my pain meds with a nausea meds and it tasted so horrible crushed up. I didn't come home with narcotics because I'm in recovery. I feel so much better walking around today except where my drainage bulb is. I can't wait for pureed food. I'm ready for some taste. I've noticed I don't like Jell-O like I did, but I love Popsicle.
