Surgery is tomorrow [emoji50] I'm sitting at home, showered with that pre surgery soap, planning what time I have to get up in the morning to shower and use the rest of the soap tomorrow morning and make it to the hospital by 7am. Surgery is tomorrow, it's so surreal I have worked so hard for so long to get this surgery and now I sit here about to take that plunge and it just doesn't feel real. I made it through the dreaded liver shrinking diet, clear liquids only today, and I made it through with no cheating even on July 4th. I feel so empowered and ready! But it still doesn't seem real. This is so strange...

I see people mentioning stalls on here but I was wondering if anyone would be willing to discuss them more in depth. My mom is three weeks post off and is having a stall she dropped 20+ lbs by her two week check up but has been sticking around the same weight since her two week appointment. She has gone from liquid to blended foods, still eating very little at each eating encounter, but is getting her protein in each day. I keep telling her stalls are going to happen but she's getting frustrated. Any advice or pep talks are greatly appreciated She is feeling like a failure. Thanks guys

We have two levels are Bariatric Patients eating today. One who is a month post op and me who is on the pre op diet luckily they will line up ok...we are grilling out brats and hamburgers for the family but for us grilled cod with lemon and some grilled veggies. Family will feast on baked beans and deviled eggs and for the first time store bought dessert *gasp*. Hardest thing for me to stay out of is going to be those deviled eggs...but I will eat them again

I know you wouldn't deliberately misspell my Docs name. I saw Dr Rana yesterday for my pre-op meeting. My mom also went through Riverside but she ended up with Dr Sonistine (I know I misspelled that! ) Because patients are assigned to the surgeon who does the first information session you attend. My mom and I both lost 15-20lbs before surgery and my mom did not have a pre-op diet so I was hoping I wouldn't need one but...alas Dr Rana puts all his patients on a pre-op diet they request two weeks but my surgery is on the 12th so I don't have two weeks! They told me to start today...so much for one last holiday feast...oh well. What I did find interesting is they have us on protein shakes of our preference but six days before surgery so Friday for me we start a prescription shake called Impact that is supposed to boost your immune system before Surgery, anyone else doing those? I pick mine up Friday after my pre admission testing

So I am going to preface this by saying I work in surgery at a hospital affiliated with the hospital I am having my WLS at so not telling people was not an option for me. I have to do six nutrition appointments for insurance approval and have my last appointment next week. After that appointment they submit to insurance and will call when approved (they say a few days our insurance is fast I am told). That is when I will get my surgery date. My mom had surgery at the same place last week and when they called her to set a surgery date it was two weeks out...so I will not have a lot of notice. I work directly with one other woman, she is a huge gossip so I didn't tell her I was having WLS until about three weeks ago, she assured me she would not tell anyone else since I am anxious I won't get it for some reason but she told everyone, and she complained a lot about me, saying I was selfish to have this surgery in the summer and I was going to screw up her vacation in September... I was upset, IMO understandably so, but I am hoping to have my surgery early in July so even with 6 weeks off work I would be back in time. I came in to work today and she starts grilling me on a surgery date which I still don't have. (I called her out on telling everyone so I believe she thinks I will no longer tell her anything which outside of a surgery date and work info I will not be sharing anything with her). She informed me she is taking off two weeks in July now too... So after stressing and counting out weeks to try and accommodate her September vacation, she is throwing more time off in around when I need to have surgery. Does anyone have any advice, I had fully intended to take first available surgery date, is that selfish? Should I schedule later to accommodate her July time? I know right now I am running what ifs through my head they might not schedule me as early as I had hoped...but I feel lik she has pushed me into an impossible situation. Any suggestions on what to do and how to handle her jealousy?

Ahhhhhhhh I just got my surgery date! I am scheduled for July 12th which is perfect I am so excited!!! This is really happening

It depends a lot on your program, the program I am going through they want you to do liquid 14 days before starting blended but I have seen people post on here starting blended much sooner

The Clear is pretty good I water it down some because it is a stronger flavor then I like, it is a tropical fruit punch flavor

Congrats! All my paperwork has been submitted to insurance waiting for my call with my surgery date too!

Thanks so much everyone. I came into work today and she informed me she had decided against her lengthy time off in July. So the point is moot now, I will hopefully get my surgery date next week.

I am not sure on this but was discussing protein with a friend who is a nurse and thought it might be worth adding here. You can consume high protein in a shot or a paste but your body might not absorb it all. Spreading your protein out through the day increases the absorption. I believe she had read that it was approximately 23 grams of protein and a time anything over that is not used... Might be worth checking into

Oh I love this idea. I have a few tatts in the planning phase right now I am 5 years cancer free and still need my survivor tattoo but wow I love love love love the Roman numerals idea !! I will probably steal that idea!!

Soo Rockin Protein we have found it sometimes at Sam's Club in cases of like 12 I think but at Kroger it is sold individually around the milk and dairy not other sports and protein drinks because it contains milk it was $2.30 ish a bottle but we got it last time on sale 2 or $3 It seems to be more palatable to my mom less of the weird protein mouth coating you can get and it is still tasty and easy to digest post op.

Also recommending Premier Protein, it is my go-to pre-made protein drink But if your looking for something smoother try Rockin Protein they have different varieties so check the stats to make sure you have one that fits in your docs recommendations. It is milk based so it has to be kept refrigerated but it has none of that strange smell or aftertaste or weird mouth feel after you drink it that you can get from other protein drinks. It tastes exactly like chocolate or strawberry milk and is thinner then some so it honestly goes down really smooth. My mom has a hard time with protein drinks but she LOVES these.

I completely understand and sympathize. I was expecting push back at my work place I was prepared when I talked with my boss about taking time off for my Bypass that I wont have children so consider this maternity leave. But they were and have been surprisingly supportive. I agree with everyone else though you in theory don't have to tell them what you are having done. In my case I did, because I work in surgery in a hospital in the same healthcare system I am having surgery so I decided to take ownership of my bypass before it became department gossip... I use a Motorola Moto Mod phone... One of those from the. Hello Moto. Commercials I don't know why it comes up like that lol but it has a detachable projector on it so I can watch movies on my ceiling like a drive in so it can tag itself however it wants [emoji23] Congrats of family status I think you earned it! Thanks Frustr8 just messaged her. I missed that interview. He treated mom great she is doing great pain obviously but doing really well coming home tomorrow. I'm with Rana unless other doc can get me in sooner. I have one last nutrition appointment this month then I'm ready to schedule. My Mom had bypass yesterday with Dr Sorenstine (pretty sure I misspelled that) and her surgery was scheduled for 2 1/2 weeks after her last nutrition appointment. Wow am I late to the party! But I should be having my surgery next month. I have one final (my 6th) Nutrition appointment the 21st and then they will schedule me for surgery. My Mom just had her bypass yesterday! She had a few days over two weeks between her last nutrition appointment and her surgery date so I am hoping to have mine early July. Hang in there everyone who is waiting for a date or just waiting for their date to come and are letting the panic and anxiety creep in, you will get through this. My mom went a little manic before her date. You will be there so fast, I keep reminding myself of that. It will be here before we know it! Good Luck to everyone!!
