  1. Once again, I agree with Fluffy Chix. I also rounded down on time since surgery instead of up. And I think it is a real shame to waste the chance this surgery is providing to change your life. But at any rate I don't think we do each other any favors if we aren't gonna reality check each other when we needed. Tough Love is Still Love!

I had my surgery 3/9 and just started soft food 4/6 per the nutritionist at my surgeon's office.

    Sincerely,

    The Di*K from Gainesville

WTF? It's hard to believe this is real. The pure volume that early out would make your stomach split open like a watermelon on a summer day!

This has got to be Trollin' Trollin' Trollin' bait?

I'm with Fluffy Chix! This sounds like total BS. At 2 weeks out with this list of food this person would be in the emergency room! Surgery is pretty drastic if you have no intention of trying at all.

  3. I am praying for you, too.

I had a set back last year when my employer switched insurance companies at open enrollment. They went from an *** that covered it with co-morbidity to one that only covered it with very serious co-morbidity. I ended up switching to the PPO option which was easier to qualify than the original but my co-payment went from $250 total to $2879 paid so far (I am still getting bills). This was very stressful, and to think if I had just started my 6 month diet 2 months earlier I could have saved over $2500.

Sorry, this was about you. I am pulling for you!

I waaayyyy overbought preparing for surgery. I just didn't, and still don't have an appetite. Things I bought and didn't eat, or barely ate; sf popsicles, sj Jello (premade & powdered), cottage cheese, oatmeal, instant mashed potatoes, Soup, so much Soup, sf pudding (premade and powdered), frozen fruit to blend into my Protein Shakes, gas x, mira lax, microwave Protein muffins, Beans (canned and dried), canned chicken, turkey lunch meat, apple sauce, Powerade zero. I'm sure there is more I can't recall.

Between all the items above and becoming intolerant of whey Protein, and not being able to use my protein powders, premade shakes, protein Water etc., I wasted 100's of dollars.

I'd also echo check with your program on your post op diet. Mine did not allow juice, or any non protein liquid calories. I was also on full liquids, as opposed to clear, as soon as I was discharged from the hospital. So that meant Protein Drinks from day 1.

Yeah, I over bought, too. Also, the things I liked pre, I hated post so there was that. I didn't waste my time with the juice do to the 10 to 1 dilution. My taste buds are coming back around to normal though.

I would probably recommend to anyone not to buy too much. You will still be able to go to the store. Just have some bullion and crystal light or whatever sugar free drink on hand for when you first get home. Buy the rest as you go along. Unless of course you have money to burn, and tons of extra pantry space for stuff you may not end up liking/using.

Wow! I'm impressed with your handbook. I would sincerely like a copy of THAT. I have a few pages printed, but am envious of that book with the nice tabs and clear directions.

Yeah, It has been a life saver. The Center for Obesity Surgery and Treatment gave it to me at my last visit before surgery. It even breaks down exactly what I am to look for when Vitamin shopping. I refer to it hourly. LOL

What is the problem with having sugar drinks? What is wrong with having sugar after the surgery?

Sugar drinks are wasted calories. Also, sugar is as addictive as cocaine. I am assuming that one of the goals of weight-loss surgery is to lose weight.

After your surgery it is very important to focus on getting Protein and fluids. Your surgeons office should have a Nutritionist on staff to help you make these important decisions. I would talk to them, but this is the hand out my Nutritionist gave to me for the clear liquid diet after surgery.

  7. Kate you are my hero. Congratulations!!

Before committing to this surgery, I was a daily drinker. A relaxing cocktail after work was just part of my routine. I had to come to terms with letting go of that lifestyle. I am feeling much better for it, not to mention a little richer:)

Also, my mother is a recovering alcoholic 29 years sober.

Keep putting you first, one day at a time!

  8. I've worn a uniform to work for the past twenty years, I think that has kept my wardrobe down a bit. Always been jeans/capris and t-shirt for everyday, and jeans with a nicer shirt for dress up.

I do like the cold shoulder trend, I think it looks nice on those of us over 40. I used to like V necks but my chest is starting to look a little crepey, my shoulders still look alright.

I just finished week 3, down 14# since surgery. I'm not necessarily hungry but sometimes I just want to EAT, if that makes sense. I am eating 4 meals a day spaced 4 hours apart: shakes and softs.

I am a little over 3 weeks out, and down 13 lbs since surgery. Last night I just couldn't get a grilled cheese out of my head. Still on puree foods per Nutritionist, but I stick to shakes and cream of Tomato Soup. I graduate to soft foods on 4/6.

  10. I seemed to have stalled, also. It has me a little bummed out. I am guessing with my age it has to do with my slow metabolism. I am hoping that if I keep doing what I'm are supposed to, eventually I will have to start losing weight again. Focusing on the scale can be depressing.
