  1. As of this morning, officially down 75 pounds from my highest weight!

  2. 20 days out from surgery and I've dropped 20 pounds (in addition to the 10 pounds I gained while in hospital and lost within a week of returning home).

SleeveinIL Thanks for the healing vibes. I'm just over the river from St. Louis, MO

  3. Some of my surgery incisions are infected (I was told I was at increased risk for infection since I'm diabetic). I got to the doctor in the early stages so its nothing major, but I'm waiting on the cultures to find out which antibiotic is most appropriate to treat the infection. I should hear from the doc's office tomorrow. In the meantime, I have no desire to eat (surgery was two weeks ago) and find myself preferring to drink my protein. Is that normal?

Thanks! I am drinking a lot of pre-mixed protein shakes (Muscle Milk and Atkins) and Crystal Light flavored waters with a scoop of protein powder mixed in. Glad to hear that maybe as the infection heals I'll feel more like eating purees and moving away from relying on protein drinks.

  4. I have reached a new level of ridiculous, even for me. This morning I downloaded an app to help me track my bowel movements to make sure I'm not at risk of constipation/an obstruction. It will alert me if I haven't gone #2 in 36 hours.

LOL...so I'm not the only one tracking this! I keep a little note in my fitness calendar, where I also keep my food diary, medicine, exercise log and water intake

  5. Had surgery yesterday and everything went well. Still spacey from anesthesia, so will update tomorrow.

Did you try the tomato soup.....UGHH....nasty sweet tasting crap. But, then again everything has either been way too sweet or too salty. I'll drink water thank you very much LOL

I thought I'd be looking forward to a protein shake, but i may not like the sweetness. I'll get it figured out.

  6. Three minor disappointments today:

    • My favorite shirt is officially too big to wear, because it sits awkwardly on my shoulders and doesn't stay put.
    • My good-occasion bra is ALSO too big in the cups. Like, to a startling degree, considering my other bras still fit fine.
    • For the first time since surgery, I've gained a pound, though I *think* that's due to digestive delays.

Just think of all the new clothing you'll get to wear now though :) As for gain, how often do you weigh? My weight can fluctuate quite a bit, so I've found weighing once a week at the same time helps.

  7. Had to do a makeshift repair on my capris today, using paperclips, because the hem of one leg came undone on my way to work. That's what I get for wearing these for the first time in two-ish years, I guess (they're a 30 but run small because they are the same size as a similar pair I own that are 26s).

Don't mind my super-pale leg. I'd blame it on this being the first time this year that I haven't worn long pants, but the truth is that I'm almost always that pale, except for the forearm that hangs out the window while I drive in the summer, which burns and then gets a brief, faint tan. :D

Good solution! I've used a stapler when I've been in a pinch and needed to fix something on my clothing...

  8. When I got dressed this morning, I realized I was wrong about the size of the jeans I got at Walmart the other day. They're not 26/28s; they're 24/26s! Which is even better, but also ridiculous because a pair of size 26 pants from the same brand were too small. The jeans have stretch, though, and the pants did not.

What a happy surprise :) I've noticed Walmart has been changing up their sizes, too. If I remember correctly, what used to be a 2x is now considered a 3x and that's the highest size they carry (i.e. 26/28's aren't to be found). Of course it could be that maybe its just my Walmarts (Godfrey and Wood River) that aren't carrying the larger sizes.

  9. Tonight's experiment: wonton wrapper lasagna (made with ground turkey and a Greek yogurt cream cheese/mozzarella/cheddar/spices mix instead of ricotta, which I don't like) and tacos (made with taco meat pilfered from my sister's supper). In the oven now!

I'll have to try these! What's the carb count like for the wontons? After surgery, what guidelines did your surgeon and/or nutritionist give you regarding calories and carbs?

  10. My surgery date had to be moved back a month (due to changing hospitals), so now I have 14 days until my surgery date of May 3rd.

I was going to have it at Barnes West County, but they made me move it to Barnes in the city.

  11. Had lap band removed in July, emergency surgery. I have gained 39 pounds and have diabetes, hypertension and high lipids . My BMI is 35.9 . Will I qualify for weight loss surgery?

I think it really depends upon what criteria your surgery center or surgeon requires. I also had to have emergency surgery to remove my lap band back in 2010 and gained back all that I had lost and more (lowest was 256 right before the band was removed, then eventually got up to 396). Thankfully, I've lost down to 315 now, but I've been stuck at between 308 and 325 for the last two years. I am so happy that in six weeks I'm having RNY.
