Hi dear ones! I had surgery on the 20th (RNY) and was released for home on the 21st. I feel absolutely fantastic. Very little gas and my tummy wasn't even distended too much. They said they expelled as much as they could after surgery. The surgeon said it was an easy operation and the my liver looked pink and lovely! Yay me!
I'm walking and drinking and visiting with my sissy. The biggest problem is that i have to limit fluids today to only 4oz. I can drink somewhat normally. I do feel it filling up a little when I sip too fast, but I feel like and asked, "Did you really do the surgery?" LOL!
I'm up 5lbs from fluids. On the day of surgery I weighed 222.4lbs. So I'm looking forward to the scale moving! Tomorrow I start full liquids--today I'm still on clears. But it's ok. I have absolutely no desire for food. And I have ambivalence for other people's food. Yay!!!
Hope all the other Feb. 20th folks and the February folks in general are doing well!!!

You will need a way to get home. You will not be able to drive. Also the scripts for prescription medicine such as blood thinners are generally written on the day you leave the hospital and you will need to get those filled as you go home.

As others have said, everyone is different. My doc's rule was drive as soon as you have stopped taking narcotics for pain. I didn't use anything other than Tylenol after I left the hospital. I was in 1 night. Used 1 dose of nausea meds on the way home (felt a little car sick) and slept alot that day and the next. (Surgery Tuesday, Discharged Wednesday, Slept Thursday.) Friday, I did the grocery shopping, but made the family carry the bags because I had a 10 pound lifting restriction for 2 weeks post surgery and cooked dinner for my family. Did a couple hours of work from home that day as well. Monday, I was in the office for a full day - moving a little slower, but worked 9-5. So, it depends. To be honest, I would have rather my family been somewhere else and left me alone instead of asking me how I felt every three minutes. But that's just me. Best of luck.

Having a companion sure helps - especially if you have kids to look after etc BUT it's entirely possible to get through this without one. Buy your Protein Powder etc before surgery and make sure your housework/laundry etc is up-to-date - that way you have a few days to just relax. I was fine going shopping etc within a couple of days but only lift light bags so I'm sure you'll do just fine x

I don't really want to read posts about people's bathroom habits or throwing up, so you know what I do? Avoid them like I avoid country music!

You know what you get when you play a country music record backwards? You get your dog back, you get your wife back, you get your truck back...

    Here's a rant:
You know what I don't like? Country music. So when I stumble into a local bar called "Cowboy Saloon" and there's a room called "This Room Is All Basically Country Music At High Volume" and they are, in fact, playing country music, you know what I do? I leave. I leave as voluntarily as I came in.
You know what I don't do? I don't walk around the bar full of people enjoying country music telling them that it's soulless and cliche and isn't what I like to hear and offends my ears and I demand they stop.
I just leave. I don't make some big scene and scream "Country music is the worst and I am leaving!" I just... you know, take off, and find a bar playing jazz music. Or sit in my car and listen to NPR.

I think moving away from a Rants and Raves board is exceptionally wise...if you are offended by Rants and Raves:)
    Smart choice!

If you expect me to worry about hurt feelings for talking about stereotypes and vague generalizations...you're barking up the wrong tree.
That would be like me worrying about you calling me a mean gurl. BAHAHAHAHAHA!!!! LOLOLOLOL:)

I thought it was hilarious. I've only been wandering these forums for 2 months and made similar observations. I haven't posted a whole lot but I hope I haven't been one to cause you to roll your eyes and groan. Creekimp, I actually always look for your comments because I find them insightful and just enough "tough love" without being offputting (in my opinion anyway) and I hope you continue to stick around.

Also, I love you, I think we should be BESTIES!! LOL

The Rants and Raves board, the Lounge, the guys and girls rooms....could maybe have a more discrete backroom feel that omits them from Trending Topics and updates? They're generally off-topic and might be taken with a grain more effectively if they're not stumbled into accidentally through other menus.
If you have to actually seek them out, and pull down the menu to find them.....it's more likely you'll understand what content to expect.
Might spare the newbies, and keep the pertinent information front and center....while also allowing an edgier sub rosa retreat.

Ya'll will note...I did NOT post this to the general forum.
I posted it to the Rants and Raves board....cause it's a Rant. It's not meant to be helpful...unless humor helps....which it sometimes does. (and sometimes doesn't)

Ha! I clicked on this to scold the poster for being unkind... and then I just laughed and laughed.
Maybe the forums are a temporary resting place rather than a final destination. I started lurking before my surgery to learn as much as I could, and I've been around since my surgery a couple months ago to reassure myself that my experiences are normal. I think it's been great for that. But once you've gotten what you need from it and you find yourself creating a (seriously funny) taxonomy of irritating posts... maybe it's time to move on?
I think I'm approaching that moment.

    Hello to everyone here.
I'll be 58 this year..where did the time go!
Just coming up to 2 years waiting for my first consult so maybe a bit early to join, but impressed with all the write ups, thought I'd start off anyway.
Obviously worried about surgery and complications but it seems that most people do really well after these. I hope I will be able to say the same.
I have lost and gained and lost and gained so many times..and I didn't even realize this was something I should seriously look at until my gynecologist suggested it. Now have oesteo in both knees..go figure.
Looking forward to following the progress of new patients and the success of those who are now post-op.

Hope your day procedure went well! I’m scheduled on Friday and have had the same liquid diet with no cheating...It’s been very difficult feeding a family of 5 but not myself. I feel like I stink but my husband assured me I don’t. Lol part of me wonders if he is just trying to be nice.
