Change in Amount I Can Eat

Congratulations on your weight loss! That is incredible! I am only 7 weeks post, but I wanted to tell you I've seen people describe the same situation. At 3 to 8 months out, they aren't as hungry as they used to be. I hope this is the case for me too! I just wanted to let you know you're not the only one. I'm not sure why people haven't responded yet!
  3. Being unemployed is rough. I'm not sure if you got laid off or if you're unable to work. But if you can work, we need to find you a job stat! I suffer from depression and I know it sounds so lame, but having to get up and be somewhere everyday is SO important for mental health. It gives you some purpose, it keeps you mentally busy, it keeps you physically moving, it brings in some money, and it will help keep your mind off food! I was unemployed years ago for several months and I squandered time, money, food, and my brain. Days began to blend together. I GAINED weight and was even more depressed. I couldn't find a job and it was horrible, but I eventually found one. I'm not sure if your father is capable of supporting you in this, but help him understand your surgery and your new diet if you haven't already. He can learn to say "no" to your cheese toasties. LOL. If you are unable to work, I would think about different ideas to get you out of the house, stimulate your brain, move blood through your legs, and to keep your mind off food. If you are currently looking for a job I am sending out positive vibes to the universe that you get hired soon!!!
  4. I am 5 weeks post op and have been feeling pretty down. No weight loss for almost two weeks now. And I know it's part of the course, but nonetheless it's hard. I decided to go jogging tonight without my dogs. Sometimes they can be such a distraction. And boy, I am so glad I did. As I put on one of my favorite tunes "Parallel Lines" by Junior Boys, I began running, and running, and running and I didn't stop for 10 whole minutes. I felt SO ALIVE! I haven't felt like that for 5 years. It is a newfound vitality and it felt amazing. I couldn't believe my feet weren't giving out, I couldn't believe my knees didn't start hurting. Even my hips were okay! I felt so much lighter on my feet. I have lost a total of 28 lbs since my pre-op diet, 18 of which were lost after surgery. I can't believe how such a little amount of weight loss has made such a difference in my ability. I'm tearing up right now just thinking about it. I just feel so lucky to have had this surgery and it is making such a HUGE difference SO FAST and sometimes I lose sight of that. A before pic and me tonight... feeling so great!!!
  5. I was told NOT to drink out of a straw. Slow sips of water, often. Well, I did really well the first week or so. Starting week 2, I realize I'm probably only getting 20-30oz in. Yesterday I started filling my 24oz Tervis tumbler with water and drinking through a straw. I hit my 64oz daily goal yesterday and am already at about 32oz today. I haven't *felt* anything weird when drinking with the straw or anything weird going on in my stomach. I really hope I can continue doing this because for some reason, I tend to drink A LOT more when it's from my tumbler with straw. (I wonder if it reminds me of my fast food drinks?!??! What a thought. Yikes.)

    Vent

What an awful day!! Wow, you are still fresh out of surgery. It's going to get harder before it gets better. But don't worry, your body is healing and you are training your brain what and how to eat. Is the cough from a cold? Despite his eating pizza in front of you, I hope you're able to get your protein and water in. YOu are doing great and like you said, this will take time. It's a HUUUUUGE adjustment. But you and your husband will figure it out and find your new normal.

    Does the Nose know?

I hiccup for at least a minute or two. Doesn’t happen every time I eat, though. Thank goodness!!
  12. I've have the weirdest sensation of being full and hungry at the same time. I feel like there's food still in my stomach, but at the same time I feel hunger pains. LOL It doesn't happen all the time, but it's disconcerting. Has anyone else felt this? I'm 4 weeks post op now.

    101 pounds and weeping

Way to go, Miss Topaz! Your story brings a tear to my eye. I'm so happy for you!!

    Just wondering...

It’s a myth that you have to drink 8 glasses of Water a day. No science behinds this or needing 64 oz of water per day. Of course water requirements vary per person, so you have to find what’s right for you. If your pee is pale yellow in the toilet, you are hydrated. Oh, and coffee does not cause you to lose additional fluids or dehydrate you.
  16. When did you start feeling more energy after the sleeve? I'm looking forward to the new energy level everyone enjoys after WLS. I'm 3 weeks post op, so still recovering, but I can't wait to run. Will I have the energy for this in 6 weeks? I'm still tired during the day and of course after work.
  17. It could definitely be cramping... it's like cramping with a hunger tone to it. LOL I've been ignoring it and it goes away. It's almost like if you eat something and it doesn't hit that "spot". Yeah, I'm just gonna keep on keepin' on!

    The struggles are real!

star, it sounds like you're doing great! And I love your attitude! So excited to continue to hear about your journey. You totally have this pre-op diet in a headlock! Congrats also on the weight loss!! Such a great feeling!!

    Exercise

I started driving 5 days after surgery to go to work. My doctor said to make sure I could twist to look at my blind spots without pain. It was totally bearable. And of course, don't be on pain meds! Haha. He and my dietitian tell me to walk everyday and will allow me full, rigorous cardio / weights 6 weeks post op.
  20. Had surgery Wednesday, was back at work the following Monday. I have a desk job too. I was totally fine except I was tired and just had to power through the waves of sleepiness. The first two weeks back my energy was up and down. It was unpredictable. I'd have good days and bad days. Third week I really started feeling normal and fourth week I was tip top!

    Multivitamins

I'm using the patch vitamins too. So far, so good! Love not having to swallow pills. Has anyone relied solely on their diet for vitamins and been successful? I wonder. I know we don't consume as much food, but I would think with shakes and enriched waters we'd be okay.

    Gallbladder Disease?

Wow. I'm so sorry to hear that! Did they open your previous sleeve incisions to take your gallbladder out? How are you feeling now? Did they give you pain medication?!
  23. Nikki, I just started feeling more like myself this week ...which is week 4 for me. I know that seems a long way off right now, but don't worry, it's coming and you will be feelin' better.

    My secret sleeve journey

Oh my goodness! I am so sorry you had to go through that. It sounds like a toxic family relationship. (I'm familiar). I am so proud of you for standing your ground. You are a smart, beautiful woman and you deserve to live your life how you choose. That is what life is all about!! I am excited FOR you!! LOL
  25. I hear you. I had a panic attack the week before surgery. I definitely let things get to my head though. I kept thinking I'd rip the IV out of my arm once I was at the hospital in the pre-op room. LOL But, once I did get there, I stayed on that gurney. But I cried. So this is what it has come to, I thought. And then I thought, yeah, it has. Now get in that surgery room and get this taken care of so you can finally enjoy your life. I think the crying was therapeutic. It was like I was mourning the loss of my stomach before I'd go under. A subconscious farewell to my old way of life and it was sad. But every book has chapters, and I was ready to start a new one. You have your reasons for choosing surgery. Just keep thinking about them OVER and over again. Only YOU know what's right for you. And if that means you can't discuss it with family because they can't/won't understand it, so be it! They definitely don't need to know. I *am* glad to hear your husband and close friends know. That is FANTASTIC! And you are going to do great. Can't wait to read your future posts. Do you think surgery will be in May?
