    Does your stomach feel normal?

Tomorrow!!!! LOL I am pretty much freaking out but trying to remain rational with what little strength and cognitive skills I have left after being on meal replacement shakes and having low carbs all week! When was your surgery? Good grief I can go back from this reply to see if you mentioned it. Lol
  2. Ahhh, that makes sense! Ok, that’s good to know. My mom is bringing me her heating blanket. Makes me feel old!! Lol And wow, you are exercising like a wild child! That is phenomenal. I pray I have Borge the energy and motivation after surgery to do a routine like yours.

    Surgery tomorrow!

You are probably up and walking the hospital halls by now!!Congratulations!
  5. I'm having surgery Wednesday and I keep reading my dietitian's guide and others over and over again. I feel like this can become a hot mess, especially when you throw in vitamins and supplements. My sheet says I can have full liquids day 2 onward and an example is light yogurt (without fruit) and sugar free pudding. Aren't these more of a pureed item? Not that I'm complaining! LOL But did anyone do this and have any trouble?

    Anxiety before surgery

So glad maryeliza started the topic b/c I’m pretty much freaking out. I’ve had two panic attacks this week thinking about my surgery on Wednesday. And Seahawks, thank you for posting your story. I’m pretty much thinking I may chicken out in the preop room and run out of the hospital. I’m so glad to know that it’s actually happened and I may not be the only one!!! But I am trying to remain strong and quash my irrational fears. I will definitely call the doctor to see if they can give me a medication so I can get to the hospital in the first place. I know I need this!
  8. Yes! It can get so confusing! That is great advice. I will get some and keep them in the fridge and see how I can handle them as I go along this week. And CONGRATS on the weight loss! Holy moly that is incredible!!
  9. Has anyone been sent home with an SCD? My doctor's office gave me a sequential compression device to take home at my pre-op appointment. The nurse said once I'm home from the hospital after surgery, I should keep them on my legs while I'm sitting down. I thought if I got up and walked around enough, something like this would be unnecessary. But I had to take it home and promise to use it. Anyone else??

Where does everyone live? (General area)

I saw that! I’m wondering if she was considering one of the doctors I was in North Houston. Apparently he’s really good. It just wound up being a little too far for my follow ups. I should ask her who she’s going with!

Fantabulous SkyJade! I hope I’m in the same boat two weeks after my own surgery on the 28th!

    no surgery for me.

Pretty much! I know I’ve seen others post the same thing - that hiatal hernias can bring down your cost with certain doctors. I couldn’t believe I found a doctor/center that offered that too and could finally move forward, let alone in my own city. Let us know how this progresses and what you find!

    no surgery for me.

ElseeG, I was in your exact position. BMI 35, no comorbidities (as defined by my insurance). I do have advanced osteoarthritis and depression but those don’t count. So I am self pay. There was NO way I could afford anything over $10,000. I would have to consider financing and for much less. I considered Mexico too. But I went with a top doctor here for a consult and yes, the self pay cost would be $14,000 -$16,000. However, after a required EGD, if they found a hiatal hernia the cost would drop to $5,200. WOW. I thought for sure I didn’t have a hiatal hernia, but you know what? I did! Holy crap, my self pay would now be that low? Yes indeed. Now we’re cookin’ with gas! So not only do I get a top doctor in the Houston medical district, but I’m paying way less than what I had been quoted in Mexico. So, I would suggest getting an EGD where you live and sending your results to a good doctor near you or close state that has a similar program. I hate to think that your health is blocked by cost. Ugh. But I’m hopeful you will find a way - by hook or by crook!

    Dreams

I had a very similar experience. Except, it happened after I quit smoking. I woke up with my heart pounding and totally scared because I dreamt I lit a cigarette and started smoking it. I think there are parallels between your experience and mine. 1) We have made a life changing decision. 2) It arises out of years of practicing bad habits. 3) We are serious and committed to the decision to change. 4) We are afraid of failing. I honestly believe it’s all perfectly normal to have these kinds of dreams. Though I know they’re quite unsettling! Not only are we physically changing our bodies, but mentally as well, and our fears manifest themselves in these dreams. On a positive note, I also think it indicates long term success, because we are so determined to change. Motivation baby!
  23. Yes! Struggling with mental illness is horrible. I suffered a long time without help. Maybe that’s why it’s working so well

    Persuading my Psychiatrist

Just saw my psychiatrist this morning. He never asked me about surgery next week. He had no clue and I left it that way. I don’t think my psych evaluation made it past the hospital walls.
