Hello all! We are approaching our one year surgiversary. How is everybody doing?

I’m down 140 lbs and have about 40 lbs to go til I hit my doctor’s goal. My one year post op will be March 14 and I’m excited to see the official weigh in. To help with the last bit of weight I’m starting a plan with a weight loss doctor. She’s not a surgeon, but can help with nutrition and monitoring vitals (blood pressure, Vitamin deficiencies, heart health, etc.). I last saw my surgeon at 6 months and will now be going in only for annual visits. I need a little bit more accountability on a monthly basis, so I think this will be a great way to help me finish and make sure I’m healthy as well.

    Is anybody already at goal?

Hello. I am down 70lbs with 10-15 more to go. My one year post op is March 5. I have kinda stalled a bit and I'm finding it hard to get off the last few pounds.

Hi everyone! Long time no talk!!

I'm doing well overall, although I did have a stall that I had to work through that I think I'm still not over totally. The loss has slowed WAY down, and while I'm noticing new changes every day, I wish it was still happening steadily. I'm 98 down from surgery, and like sideeye I'm like 50 lbs from where I'd like to be.

That's great!! You are not alone when it comes to stalling but you'll get to your goal.

I feel like I'm struggling, but I don't know if that's just me being me, or if I'm actually struggling. lol. I'm down about 110 over all, 80 from surgery. I'm trying to look at it like losing 110 lbs in 9 months is UNHEARD of, that I'm doing well. My hair is still coming out a lot, but I'm happy with how much I'm able to do now. I can cross my legs in a chair!! I'm the weight I was when I was a Senior in High School!! I'M SMALLER THAN MY MOM!!!

IDK, I guess I'm just not sure if I'm doing it right? Eh. Anyone else have doubts about themselves?

Your results are amazing!!! Keep it up. I doubt myself as well but what I had to remember is that your results are more than what shows up on the scale but also the non-scale victories. Imagine how much you have done for your health. You are only going to continue to make progress if you keep doing what you are doing.

Hey, fellow March sleevers. We're all 6 months post-op now! How is everyone doing?

I'm down 56 lbs. which seems low to me but my surgeon says that my results are exceptional. I'm 4' 11". I started at a size 16/XL almost 18 and I'm now a 8/10/Medium. I have about 20 lbs. more to lose based on the goal given to me by my nutritionist. It's interesting because I had originally selected a goal of 135 lbs. but I guess in looking at my body composition and muscle tone she felt I could be heavier. I do have muscular legs and I wanted to keep my curves.

I've been in the gym strength training since 6-weeks post-op. I feel stronger, definitely much lighter. My main goal is to continue to reduce the fat around my waist and inner thigh (I'm hoping this is where the rest of the 20 lbs. will come from because I really don't have fat anywhere else), build muscles and shape my body.

Surgery on 3/28 lost 54 pre-op and 31 pounds post op. The loss has slowed but I have upped my workouts building more muscle. As long as the inches come off and I make it to goal, I am not really concerned.

I really like your attitude because its not solely about how many pounds lost. I was sleeved 3/5 and down 32 lbs since surgery. My weight loss has slow down to the tune of maybe 2 lbs a month BUT with the weight training I'm doing my body is changing. Every time I look in the mirror there is something different or smaller about my body and it is very noticeable to others.

March 14th, down 39 lbs including 2 weeks pre-op. Y'all are killing me!

Sent from my SM-G935V using BariatricPal mobile app

I understand. Down 36lbs incl 2 week pre OP, March 5th but as I lose I'm realizing that I don't want to lose as much as I originally thought. Building lean muscle has really shaped my body. Therefore, I only have 39 lbs more until goal.

By you losing 39lbs in 3 months you should be proud of yourself. You're doing well. Keep it up.

He's probably doing what my surgeon does: calculates your excess body weight (EBW) from your highest weight (not your surgery weight) and uses this value to determine the percent lost. Then compares it with national averages of who knows what! I see you are from Maryland -- did you go to AAMC by any chance?

I think he is doing that. No, I am not with AAMC

  8. So, I had my 6 week post op appointment yesterday and my surgeon says that my weight loss is that of a 3 month patient. I wonder, how could this be? Currently at 195lbs, I'm down 30lbs from my highest weight of 225 (2/1/2018) but I've only lost 17lbs since surgery (3/5/2018). Does that sound right to anyone? I had expected to lose more but he seems to think I'm ahead of the game.

I was sleeved march 5 as well, how are you doing?

I'm doing pretty good. I'm on soft foods now. It does take effort to get my Protein and fluids but I'm getting the hang of it. I've lost about 14lbs since surgery, 27lbs total (from my highest weight which was a month pre-op) I was hoping to lose more but when I calculate it, I've lost almost 3lbs a week on average so who can complain about that... How about you?

  10. WARNING, THIS IS TMI!!

Had my first bowel movement since surgery. I had my prior one the morning of surgery. It was a very painful experience!!! My colon was contracting on its own, working to try and push things out. It literally took 2 hours to finally come out. Once it did it was hard and the thickest most compacted turd i had ever seen in my life but what a relief. I'm sure that had to be 3 pounds.

For those that have already been sleeved, how are you doing with Protein intake since surgery? I've developed a little bit of an intolerance to straight skimmed milk, but I am tolerating low fat natural yoghurt and Greek yoghurt ok. Are you using Protein powders to up your protein or have you some other "go to" fluids.

I'm doing great with Protein. I start off each day with a Premier Protein brand premade shake which has 30 grams! I have greek yogurt which has about 12 grams. I have 1- 16oz bottle of Protein2 0 which is a protein infused Water that has 15 grams or the Premier Protein Clear which has 20 grams (I was told that the protein water counts toward both fluids and protein so double whammy 😁) The rest of my fluids are plain water. Then I finish the day with another Premier Protein Shake (30 grams) or a pudding, Soup, etc with unflavored protein powder added (10-20 grams) So, protein intake can range from 67-92 grams. I am a 4' 11" female.

  12. It's Day 6 after surgery. While getting in my fluids and Protein are a challenge I'm doing it, averaging 70g of protein a day and 56oz in fluids (plain Water and clear protein water). My goal is to get up to 64 oz of water/protein water.

After feeling some regrets in the hospital because of the pain, I think I can do this. I'm finally feeling that I can embrace this new stomach and life and finally reach my goals!! 😁

  13. Was sleeved on March 5th and this is the 1st time I've felt well enough to speak on the experience. I was in so much pain the first few days, drinking felt wierd (it still does) but I think things are manageable now that I'm home. Really starting to think I can do this, a long cry from the regret i was feeling in the hospital. I hope it gets better from here

How's the pre-op diet coming along for everyone? Today was day 8, and I have to say, I had a ton of energy. Today was the first day I actually felt great. And I'm down 8 pounds so far.

    HW 241
    SW 238
    GW 130
    Getting sleeved 3/1

I am on Day 5 and I have a lot more energy too. I'm down about 3-4lbs since Day 1 but I'm on my cycle now, so I'm bloated. Can't wait to see how much I lose in total before surgery!!

I have Fed BCBS and they require a 3 month consecutive physician supervised diet. It has to be an appointment each month near the same date every month for 3 months in a row. I got approved and had my VSG on Dec 6, 2017. Good luck!

My supervised diet is conservative, each month for 4 months. It's just that the diet is approaching 2 years old. I don't know I guess I'll just have to wait to see.

  16. I've begun the process of undergoing the gastric sleeve surgery. I have the Blue Cross Blue Shield Federal Employee Program insurance. My surgeon seems to believe that my 4 months of supervised weight loss requirement can be satisfied with a physician supervised diet that I was on in 2015 but that ended on 3/30/16. Does anyone know what the acceptable timeframe is for the supervised weight loss? I'm a little nervous that my supervised weight loss may be too old.
